    I mistakenly labeled "The Man Who Refused to Salute" as a soldier, when in fact he was a naval yard worker. His identity is however disputed and it could have been either of two men working that day. They both had a story.
    I received so many comments that a separate deeper delve video into the story was warranted. That video is here: th-cam.com/video/6N7A7CAOQS8/w-d-xo.html

    My favourite was the man refusing to salute. It makes me wonder what was going through his mind and why he refused.......I'd like to think that he knew it was wrong, he hated Hitler and everything about him, and didn't want to join Hitler's army and serve under his commands.

    • @AmazingHistoricalPhotos
      @AmazingHistoricalPhotos  ปีที่แล้ว +120

      Isn't that the crazy thing about these photos ? We have no idea of knowing what was going on in their mind. What if he was checking his mobile phone at the time and just missed the salute ???? .... (p.s. I'm aware mobile phones hadn't been invented yet, but it makes you think)

    It’s so fascinating to learn about history outside of school. Simply because school takes all the fun out of learning things

      Same. I love history though sometimes I hate how I have to study the same thing for school. I got bored when my teacher was teaching about medieval times, which sucks since the medieval times were very interesting to me and I loved learning about, and my teacher took all the fun away 🥲.

But for the ones who understood, they probably either learn it for school, or personal intrest. In personal interest, some learnt it as theh find history intresting, like, how civilization happened, how it ended, kingdoms, so on. Then, the others are the type who want to know how past is related to the present and future, eg. Russia and us hated eachother since..i think the cold war (?) And still do.

    0:42 Something about this simple image is so striking to me. I've seen pictures of the Mona Lisa nearly ad nauseum since birth, but to think that same painting has been through so many wars. SO MANY. Still, she survives. She will very likely have to go through more, and people will have to pack her away again just like this. Then those of us who survive will see her brought out to the light of day again. A sad life for a painting if you ask me.

    Film Leo's roar is all they did. The roar we hear was a tiger's dubbed over the lion. Apparently lions didn't sound enough like lions back then as far as the film industry was concerned🙄

      Yeah. A lion’s roar is pretty deep and gruff. Not like what people expect thanks to movies.

      This is such a popular photo that I just made a separate video sharing the story. My caption is actually incorrect in that he was not a soldier, he was actually a worker at the Shipyard where this photo was taken. Anyway, his incredible and touching story can be found here: th-cam.com/video/6N7A7CAOQS8/w-d-xo.html

    The young Hitler photo had the mustache added in. He would have been either clean shaven or had a handlebar mustache before he had to trim it after he found out the hard way that has masks don’t work with any other facial hair.

    8:00 My mum told me how she went out with her dad during the night of switching from the left side to the right. I think it was about three in the morning when cars started to switch and my mum got to experience it first hand. She was seven at the time.

      Hi Jeremy. Good question. Some of the photos are rare, some i thought were rare, some I found aren't as rare as first thought. I research thousands of old photos just to find a handful that I haven't seen somewhere. But its so tough the more videos I make, not to use something seen many times. I do my best but some will always be rarer than others... Theres a limit at this point to what can be rare ! Thanks for watching.

      "THE MAN WHO LAUGHS" The Man Who Laughs is a 1928 American romantic drama silent film directed by the German Expressionist filmmaker Paul Leni. The film is an adaptation of Victor Hugo's 1869 novel of the same name, and stars Mary Philbin as the blind Dea and Conrad Veidt as Gwynplaine.
