Sold Subies back in 1991 on Long Island and we had a few 90' models left and couldn't give them away.Model was replaced by another funky one.The SVX.Nobody wanted those either.
@@emeyer6963 Yup, I remember. My coworker had a mid 80s Olds 442 that I believe he got at Merry Olds new. He's a few years older than me, so he was buying those cars new, they would have been used by the time I was driving. Yup, Sun Pontiac, still around today as Sun Buick-GMC at 3333 Sunrise Hwy, Wantagh, NY 11793. I remember the plastic license plate frames with "SUN" at the bottom and "Wantagh, NY" at the top. I take it you're still on the Island?.Merry Olds isn't far from a location that I sometimes have to go to for work. I think Merry's property is a CVS now---typical of many old GM dealerships due to the "in and out" format and the corner locations.
@jason9022 Plus they drove (and looked) like a forklift. LOL. They had that crude, odd Japanese way about them. A Toyota of this vintage was more refined by 1988, even some of their more esoteric models, but Subaru by 1988 was still very weird. LOL. No surprise it came from Colorado, a lot of the odd makes are popular there (Volvo, Subaru, Saab, etc).
Super quirky car for the super quirky driver. Got some awesome 80s features like the door handles, pistol grip handle, and buttons/switches in unique places and functions. Probably would be more of a collector car if it was AWD or was featured in the Fast N Furious movies. Too bad the junkyard got it from the auction, although I wouldn't pay more than 800 bucks for it. Anyways, CONGRATS on 12k Benny!!!!

Whoa Nelley, a "wedgie" Stupid-roo, I mean Subaru. These were heaps back in the day, 30+ years later they are still junk. LOL. Fuji Heavy Industries (aka Subaru) was originally I believe a forklift and materials company and it shows into the 80s with how crude they were. This has a 1.8L engine (hint, when you want to find the engine size, look closely at the "Engine Family" information on the label, the liter size of the engine is shown). The 10th VIN digit of a "J" confirms that this is a 1988 model (made in 7/87, early....) and it was made at the Yajima, Japan plant, which is still in operation today. I worked on one of these with a neighbor (belonged to another neighbor) in 1989, the car at the time was an '86, but it was an automatic. Shortline Subaru is now Schomp Subaru and is located at 580 S Havana St, Aurora, CO 80012. I think A.B.E. where it was sold as a used car is no longer in business, can't find anything on it. One of the switches on the top of the steering column is for the hazard flashers. The controls at the console are the temperature control (the first one) and the second is blower speed. The rest of the cubbies in that console are likely for different coins as back in 1988, we were still using coins to pay tolls, use the telephone and the like, so "coin holders" were the rage in the 1980s. They made these "wedgies" from 1985 to 1991. You could get a 1.8L like this one from 1985 to 1991, and from 1988 to 1991, there was also a 6 cylinder option, a 2.7L H6. These had the styling (and sales figures to match) of a wooden door stop like we had in school to prop the door open in the hot weather (before schools had AC). LOL.
A friend of mine had an 86 XT all wheel back in the early 90's! Man what a cool unusual car. Front end reminded me of a Prelude from that time period. I'd love to have one but those are a really rare bird. The controls were said to have been "aircraft cockpit inspired"
A car not well received as the long low look from different countries made their debut in america. The all wheel automatic was the most fun believe it or not. I worked on hundreds of them when I owned the triple a subaru repair in anchorage. As people traded in old for new, I never hesitated to grab one as it was sold before the ink dried. It was the no.1 new and used car sold in alaska for probably thirty years. And all the other brands combined from chevy, ford, dodge, and foreign alike if four wheel drives sales didn't come close to the sale of four wheel subaru. Truthfully it was hard to stick even their little two wheel drives in mud or snow and we had plenty of both here... a small small craftsman tool set would work on the whole car, not many can say that. Any over four years age all had over the hundred thousand mark and still strong, most believed that they were just started going at two fifty plus. Only the Justy gave the car a bad name with its three cylinder engines always dead at thirty thousand.
I don’t really get why people unsubscribe over a car I mean if I did not like a car you did a video on I would simply skip the thing not unsubscribe. It is like they do it for attention or something. It just kind of seems like not going to Walmart because they have they sell meat and maybe you are vegetarian But not buying anything there for that reason
I personally don't like it. The question is: Why don't luxury cars today have a telescoping steering wheel or any features that luxury cars used to have? Aside from the ugliness of modern day vehicles, those features would still be a 'steal of the deal' even today! Car ergonomists really knew what made sense whether it was GM, Chrysler, Ford, and later after the mid 70s the imports even understood. I don't get this day n age?
@@ClassicRideSociety Yup, my neighbor's 2007 Lexus ES350 had it. It was starting to make funky noises too. He had me put the car up for sale for him. Sold in a few weeks (this past spring) on FB Marketplace.
I had a ‘84XT....one of my favorite cars ever! Pistol grip shifter...no turbo, fwd ....
I despised these 80s imports for years but they are now growing on me

They were both low sellers and awful, mostly due to their oddity. Which dealer and what part of Long Island?

Interesting car never saw one up close before
That was a k00l little ride back in the day.....some of those features would still be awesome today.......
You have to push that little handle on the seat forward to make the seat go down I'm 6-1 I fit in mine pretty good
The dealer that it's from is still around!!
They crushed it a good while back

From The Thumbnail, I Thought It Was A 80's TOYO Celica.
I had no idea this model even existed
That is an unusual or should say unique door handles.
I think the XT4 is the 4wd version. I like that dash - it tells you everything (no idiot lights). But they're not for tall people. :)
I have a 1988 Subaru tx-6 2.7 L V6 all-wheel drive but I'm having issues with it because it's OBD1 any hints or tricks for OBD1
Cool 😀

There are electric telescoping wheel on luxury cars now. I've seen them on infinity models and I'm sure they're on many other high end rides
