Even though it is a village open to tourists you can see that the situation is mutually beneficial. The folks look happy and prosperous and we get a glimpse of village life. Thank you!
Hello Liz & Jamie, love your epic journey around the planet, been watching your travels for a few years now. The next few years look like very stormy weather with wars etc. Is there a place or places you would recommend that are peaceful, no visa problems ,food secure , and a place you could sit it out for 2-3 years while the world is in turmoil.Any suggestions would be appreciated. Regards Kevin
I'm not sure the next few years are going to be any worse than previous years... We're not especially looking for somewhere to hide, but if we were, this side of the world seems one of the most peaceful. Cheers! 🙂🙏 Liz
You guys are on a streak! Wonderful place: Indonesia has long fascinated me. I'm surprised, Liz, with your professional background, you didn't emphasize the textiles on view in the very end. They looked beautiful. Can't wait for more! Best regards.
Really wonderful video you two! You've been on a roll lately! Jamie, those stills are every bit up to National Geographic standards! Production values, music, narration, all really help communicate what the place is like. 😎👍👍
Love the photos, as always. Curious about the rice coffee: is the rice toasted beforehand, or simply added fresh/uncooked with the beans, before grinding? I'm keen to try! Safe travels!
I've no idea how they make rice coffee... I'd guess, like the beans, it's roasted? Maybe with the beans? I didn't discover that fact from J till after we left. 🙂🙏 Liz
I hadn't researched that connection so thank you. I was aware of the Islamic invasion but not the Hindu one from neighbouring Bali in the 17th century.
Clear bag @10:00, shows what u have, hopefully less appealing to snatchers. The atmosphere there seemed amazing, one of many things rarely felt through a camera.
The bag is clear to help me find my stuff! I love it. There's no bag-snatching here, by the way. Hopefully you felt the atmosphere through our cameras. 🙂 Liz
@@followtheboat No thought it would happen there, but good idea for other places.. Potential snatcher thinks, She's got nothn but sunscreen & a few bits in there, not worth my time. Moves on to next potential victim, who's bag he can't see contents, bang!
Jamie, when doing street photography, do you ever show the pictures to the subjects of the photographs? If you do, what is their general response to seeing themselves?
Rarely. The younger kids might want to see the photos but most people aren't bothered. I often get people asking to have their photo taken along with the usual stupid V-sign pose, which I might do to keep them quiet, but even then they're not that interested in seeing the results. They just want to know you've taken a picture of them. Back in the early days of digital photography it was more common, but the novelty of seeing yourself on the camera's LCD screen has worn off, thanks to phones.
Rice is grown here by established farms. Same with fruit and veg. No-one's going to make a living from crafts, no. Where there's subsistence-level life and a chance to make money, risks will be taken. Same in poorer areas of Africa and S America.Liz
Wonderful to see these out-of-the-way places throughout Indonesia. As an aside, I love the coffee. More, please. Cheers.
We have plenty more, keep watching! We love the coffee too... 👍 Liz
What an insightful tour. Jamie, I love the still photos. Liz, I really enjoyed yours and Jamie's explanations. Thank you for sharing.
Great! So happy you enjoyed our mini documentary. 👍🙏 Liz
Excellent! Among your best videos, I reckon.
Oh I'm so glad to read this. It's one of my all-time favourites too. 🙏♥️ Liz
Brilliant. You continue to be the lens through which we get to see places and cultures we would otherwise never see. 👌👌👌
That's great to know. For us, bringing these incredible locations, cultures and people to viewers is what it's all about. 🙏 Liz

Pleasure, Hillary. Yes, it's a fascinating spot and a real insight.

We both bought a sarong, the money goes to the village. 🙂🙏 Liz

Thanks for the great feedback, David. Glad you enjoyed the episode 👍👍
I enjoyed the dive into Sasak village life. I imagine a good percentage of Indonesian people live a similar life.
Yes, many do, especially away from the larger towns.
Hello from lombok
I love you and i hope we can meet for sharing somethings
When meeting local residents don't forget to photo together. 😊 Indonesian pople like talk and take pictures with foreign nationals
Yes, very good point! We have been in selfies in many, many Indonesian phones. 😀 Liz
Appreciating a simple way of life. It comes with some caveats.
It's tough, with few luxuries, unlike the rose-tinted ideals of dreamers. 🙏 Liz
Great video, thanks for showing us around.....😊
It's our great pleasure. Thanks for commenting. 🙏 Liz
buddy. you did amazing ~catch ya later!📹
Thanks for the comment! 🙏 Liz
Very interesting report, very well done
Happy to know you enjoyed it. Thanks for commenting. 🙏 Liz
lovely, except for the mining part.
Extraordinary, isn't it? We'd never have realised there was mining going on if we hadn't dug deeper. 🙏 Liz
Great show!
Thank you FTB
Glad you enjoyed it. 👍🙏 Liz
You 2 are looking trim and fit... good to be traveling again no doubt!!! What a remarkable experience.
Extraordinary place to visit, and fantastic people. ♥️🙏 Liz

You can see the resemblance of Balinese traditional attire in the Sasak wedding. Because Lombok are once part of one of Balinese Petty Kingdom.
I hadn't researched that connection so thank you. I was aware of the Islamic invasion but not the Hindu one from neighbouring Bali in the 17th century.
Really good photos and well documented. Where are you going after Lombok?
Thank you, Emang. We will be heading eastwards...
Awesome... The east is amazing. I love Sumba and if you like snorkeling or diving go to Alor. Amazing place too full of old strange customs

Question is, why are they doing it?
Who is doing what? The mining? Poverty and few choices. Liz 🙏
@@followtheboat Don't they have other choices like growing vegetables or crafts?
