    I was following DJ at LIV golf Tucson on the final round. On hole 17 the par 5 he left himself like 50 yards, he hit a /low mid spinner that hit pin high, bounced 1 time, checked on the 2nd bounce, and spun back 1ft. He took a longer lazy looking swing, and i wondered how tf he did it. This is pretty much how he did it. Lol. Great video 🔥🔥🔥

      This video is mediocre. If you want to learn how to hit this shot, watch James Sieckmann teach it. That being said, it's a tough shot to master. You're going to hit it fat A LOT in the beginning, and controlling the distance is tricky.

    How about: open face, shaft lean, hit down on the ball? Open face adds loft (to increase spin), shaft lean brings flight down (to lower launch), and hitting down increases spin loft (to spin even more). There, the physics make sense now.

  • @adamsalvatore5039
    @adamsalvatore5039 ปีที่แล้ว

    It's more handsy and aggressive release with loose wrists. You want to feel as though that clubhead is getting to the ball before the hands. Makes no sense really but it happens. Pratice it. Mean shot when you pull it off

  • @AmmoDude
    @AmmoDude ปีที่แล้ว +5

    I watched a video of Tiger explaining how he hits it. He hoods the face (extension of his left wrist) and tries to hit a hook. But, instead of swinging to the left as this gentleman is doing, Tiger swings out more to the right or down the line to make the ball come out straight vs yanking it left with the hooded face. Tiger says he never wants his pitches or chips to have "right" spin (caused by swinging left) on them when they land. It worked fairly well for him.......Also, the science of putting the most spin on a ball results from the face making contact at 45 degrees so a 56 degree sand wedge would have to be delofted for maximum spin. What am I missing?

    • @richardneel6953
      @richardneel6953 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree. I can't accept that you should be trying to hit a low shot by not taking loft off a wedge at impact. I think we're likely dealing with some feel vs real here. Agree with the discussion here that you need speed to create spin but there has to be a compromise between angle of attack (make the ball go low - not high) and still imparting spin. Don't know if it's me, but I didn't see any of the shots hit here really "check". They all rolled out.

    • @AmmoDude
      @AmmoDude ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@richardneel6953 Yes, they all rolled out and the Pro said that is the "trend" on tour. Not the tour I watch....they land, hop and stop. I try the technique that this video teaches and the ball goes high and distance seems to be inconsistent. I'll stick with Tiger's method.

    • @jm2206
      @jm2206 ปีที่แล้ว

      #1 rule is don’t use a lob wedge. You can use a 56 but something around 52 to 48 is perfect. Use the bounce. Don’t get steep. Feel a draw. And you gotta keep the speed through the ball.

      @@Meeeks after watching them numerous times I finally picked up on the difference. The low spinner uses an in to out to in draw-like swing with a lower shaft lean, whereas the standard pitch is more of a straight back straight forth bit more upright shaft. It’s very easy to see the difference in roll and height once you practice them.

    I like this channel. No BS! Well, some! ANyway, please EMPHASIZE (emphasis mine) the importance of practicing with a urethane ball, as s pin rates on hard balls and most isomers are as much as 50% less. Plus, hard balls elevate off the clubface at impact by about 30-40 and ruin the sense of distance

    The physics here is nonsense. The ball reacts not at all to club head acceleration. It's all about club head velocity at impact. Any talk about back swing is only meaningful add to how it sets up being able to strike the ball with a consistent velocity across swings.
    Spin is a function of club head velocity, dynamic loft, and angle of attack. As to grooves, they don't help "grab" the ball from the fairway. A smooth club face would spin the ball more. Think slick tires for race cars. More surface area = more friction. Worn grooves spin the ball less from the fairway not because they're dull but because they've gotten wider, offering less surface area to touch the ball.
