I remember those days when I was so broke that the only way I could buy something was on a store payment plan. It was right after I got out of college. I didn't have any kids, but it was still difficult to turn it around. I felt like I was in a downward spiral, and I cannot imagine how much more difficult it is for someone with children. This made me tear up. I've seen it happen to people I love, a fear-based cycle. They believe that there is no hope, and because of that, they choose to give them themselves a sense of false security with a car, or do something fun because they feel they will never have the chance to again, and end up wasting their money. It's so easy to sit on the outside and judge, but the reality is, like. Dave said, they have been fighting so hard for so long and they are just tired and throw up their hands and stop trying. I'm so happy to see her getting the help that she needs, and gaining the determination to really give it a go. I'm proud of her.

I hope she takes the advice cause as she was listing all over her debts, I felt my throat close up. It made me very nervous as she kept listing her debts one by one. I’ve been here too. Haul dad back into court. The state will take over collecting child support but father should be paying half of the kids medical costs and reasonable extra curricular activities. Half of those braces should come from him. The state will “redirect” any tax refund he has coming if he’s in arrears even if he filed jointly with a new wife. That chunk of change would at least let you take a deep breath. Don’t worry about upsetting him - that ship sailed long ago.

It's not helpful to be mean. I was a single mom of 3 sons. I worked 2 jobs. I took classes to earn an associate degree, but it takes time to move up. We lived from crises to crises. I lived in fear. One son had a congenital disease that killed him at 24. I had many medical bills. I lived with anxiety over what could happen next. One summer I was so desperate for relief. I bought a tent at a yard sale. Took 1 week off work, and took my boys camping. This is a rotten world to put this much stress on women. By the way; my ex husband was a Vietnam vet who became addicted to drugs and couldn't hold a job. He rudely didn't kill himself until my youngest son was 19. I'm now 3 weeks from turning 72. I still work partime. I retired for 2 years, then realized this country doesn't care about seniors. I retired at 65 till 67. I don't see a way to ever retire now with awful inflation. I no longer have trust in my country. That's sad. I do not want to be a burden to my 2 living sons or anyone else. I don't know anyone who isn't struggling. 😢

The cruise wasn't ideal but sounds like was pretty cheap and for a single mom working two jobs, seems like she could use a break.
