Ryan Lerman of Scary Pockets said in passing while doing a Dead Wax interview: “Your sound is you failing to imitate your influences” and that alone has been super freeing for me as it empowers both stealing from your influences and not feeling like your work is good enough. I loved your broader take on the topic; very inspiring.

Been stuck in this rut for basically a year. Luckily, it’s been whittling down my writing/arranging which has in turn let the songs feed back into a style of music it fits into.

Hey Seth, this channel is so awesome and inspiring! As an aspiring “guitar based pop” producer, how do you go about finding projects with artists? Do you put out your own original stuff first, or start trying to find artists who want to work with a startup producer? Any tips would be so helpful, and again, this channel has been so incredible!

Hey man, at this point I have all my clients approaching me from past work and this channel. Biggest thing is getting a portfolio of stuff you’ve worked on that (a) sounds good and (b) is out on Spotify. Doing your own music is great but really it’s just getting that portfolio built out asap.

I gotta be honest. I wouldn’t say your wrong that originality is impossible. However, it is most likely possible if you CONTINUE the same other sounds you make and stay the same. With no other copying sounds and collabration is true. Instead of yourself, thats what i see a lot of artists these day which is sad and disappointing. Because sooner or late. Fans, they will burn out and move on to the next one QUICKLY enough. However, like Taylor swift or the 1975 for example. continue the same sounds with there evolution of music and journey. It what makes a fan into a superfan for the longest run.
