Travis Krause is 100 percent accurate in asserting that the 1995 team was even better than the 1983 Nebraska machine. The 95 Huskers were the greatest college team of ALL TIME. PERIOD. The reason being that the defense was faster and deeper. The 1995 team was deeper in every position than any college team before or since. Including Miami, Alabama, Georgia or anyone else. What many ignorant fans don't realize is that it doesn't matter how many pro stars a program produces. It's about overall power. And depth. No team had as many GOOD players as the Cornhuskers possessed in 1995. Two, Three and Four deep everywhere. For proof, just ask the Florida Gators that season. Smashed, Humbled and Humiliated 62-24 in the Fiesta Bowls National Title GAME. If you could call it that. What makes the 1983 Nebraska Offense even more astonishing in retrospect were two restraining factors. One, as Al Michaels pointed out, Tom Osborne was not the kind of coach to rub it in an opponents face. They substituted liberally in every game. Even more impressive is that the Nebraska defense that season was to put it bluntly, respectable at best. The Nebraska attack frequently had the ball in weaker field position and for less time than other elite offenses. All because the defense produced very few shutdown performances. Even a fairly strong defense that season would have secured a National Title in a walk. Definitely the greatest offense All Time in Collegiate Football Annals. For the best team however, look no further than 12 seasons later. The 1995 team was the best collegiate aggregation since the days of the Flying Wedge.

Most yards rushing, but far from Rozier's best game as a Husker. I gotta go with the 1982 Oklahoma State game. Mike had 251 yards and could have easily broken Rick Berns modern era single- game rushing record of 255 on his next carry needing just 4 yards and Glenn Presnell's All Time single game Rushing record of 259 yards set way back in 1927. Both marks set against Missouri. Mike scored 4 Touchdowns against OSU each on a different type of run. He easily upstaged the nations leading rusher Ernest Anderson for the Pokes who was held to just 86 yards. We seriously need video of that game on TH-cam or someplace online. Where are all those old Tom Osborne shows from the early 80's. Hard to believe that there are no highlight videos of the 1981 -83 seasons in review on TH-cam that I can find. It's always just the same few games.

Just imagine if we had switched to the 4:3 defense in 83 wow what a run that would have been because we always had great talent at Nebraska and Osborne proved how effective option football was even with talent that wasn't the caliber of the 83 team!!! But I think the 95 team was better than the 83 team!!! GBR!!!

I think that switching to the 4-3 defense in '83 wouldn't have made too much of a difference, as in 1983 the Huskers just didn't have the level of talent on the defensive side of the ball to play the 4-3 as well as they did in the mid- to late- 90's. I agree that the '95 team was better than the '83 team, and I dare say that the '97 Husker team was better than the '83 team. The '97 team's better balance of defense and offense in my mind makes them superior to the offense-heavy '83 team. GBR!

@Plemons Residence not only they were coached by the best in the business on both sides of ball Osborne was offensive master mind a McBride was a defensive coordinator that really knew how to call plays and his schemes were brilliant but I have to say pelini"s defense of 09 was probably the best I've ever seen at nebraska if we had offense that year we would of had another title!!!

The 2-point play late in the first quarter looks a lot like the one from the Orange Bowl, albeit a different result.

Kansas was hit with major probation after this season. The Jayhawks were banned from TV in 1984, and banned from bowl games in 1984 and '85. As if the bowl ban mattered.

As a diehard Husker boy I always hated these nail biting games.

You never had to worry about that against Kansas.

21-20 in 1993 at Lawrence. KU was stopped on a 2-point conversion at the end instead of kicking for the tie. A tie could have ruined the Huskers' title hopes.

Defense was average and was the reason for a heart breaking end of the season.
