When I was seven, I met senator John Kennedy at the Colorado democratic convention. I still remember him. He shook hands with my dad, and tapped me on the head, and said, "I have a little blonde girl at home. Her name is Caroline." He asked me my name, and smiled down at me. This was 1960.

Still is surreal after all these years. I was 12 years old attending parochial school. The principal came to our classroom and informed the class that the president had been shot and being a Catholic school the Dominican nun who was our teacher had the class stand as she lead us in prayers for the president, only to be sent home within the hour after notification of his death. The real shock came Sunday morning as we watched the murder of Lee Harvey Oswald, live on television.

When I was 7 we went to DC, to see all the sights. We went to Arlington National Cemetery. I saw the grave and the eternal flame. We saw the guard marching back and forth. I was told about Kennedy and how someone killed him. It stayed with me all these years. Still very sad how he met his end. I, too, was 4 y. o. at the time of JFK’s assassination and funeral. My mother would not let me watch any of it because she feared that all of those news may vastly affect me. I strongly sensed some sadness in the air, but nobody would tell me what actually happened. For many years, I was so deeply upset at my mother because she refused to tell me about this particular incident until I was old enough to understand what actually happened here in America. 🇺🇸 Finally, I came to realize that she was actually doing this type of protection for my own good.

I remember this like it was yesterday. My dad died from a heart attack exactly one month prior to JFK’s assassination. I was eleven. We had been let go of school for the funeral of the president to watch it on TV, and while we were not Kennedy supporters, having to watch that funeral and procession ripped open the wound of losing our father who had also been a US army combat vet. The VFW did a three gun salute at the graveside and gave my mom the folded American flag. Every time I hear that salute now I’m brought back to my dad’s grave site.

Studies have shown that most people who were at least 3 years old in 1963 have vivid memory of the JFK assassination.Studies have shown that most people at 3 are aware that there is a larger world out there beyond their daily reality of being 3 years old. It was such a HUGE EVENT; that within an hour of his death, every single man, woman, and child throughout America had been told that the President of the United States had been murdered. I was 8, and can remember the event very clearly. I’m not at all surprised that at 4, you too remember. In fact, I would be shocked if at 4, you could not remember. I moved to Arlington, VA in 1972 and my office mate’s husband was stationed at Ft. Myer. I was able to attend Black Jack’s (the riderless horse at the funeral) birthday in January. He had his own Carrot Cake. Mrs. Kennedy purchased Black Jack after he retired from service.

      November 25, 1963, Monday
The entire country came to a standstill --no school. Time
      literally stopped.
      I remember watching
      every moment that day
      on a 19-inch B/W television.
This remarkable footage brought it all
      back. What is most
      striking here is the
respect for this moment in history.
Added to the sadness --it was John-John's
      3rd birthday!

I was 12 when the President was assassinated. I was home sick from school and watching TV when the network broke in with the awful news. Even though I was so young, this President and his family had drawn my attention during the Cuban Missile crisis, and I felt safe after that event with him in office. Just as another commenter here mentioned how the incessant funeral drums became oppressive to him as a child, the same remembrance of wanting to fall over if the drums didn't stop, affected me as well. Awful, awful time.

Being the President of the US, he was the Commander in Chief of the US Military. He as well was a WWll hero in the US Navy awarded the Navy and Marine Medal for his actions to save his crew of the PT 109 after a Japanese warship struck the Torpedo boat in the night destroying it on Aug 2 1943. Lieutenant Kennedy got his surviving crew members to safety on an island in Japanese territory nearby and eventually got word to Navy rescue where they were. I understand it was via natives taking a coconut the lieutenant wrote on. I also understand the coconut found it's way back to Lieutenant Kennedy from their rescuers. It was in the Oval Office when Kennedy was President. He received this full military funeral with burial in Arlington after his assassination in office Nov 22 1963.

Unlike my husband (who is ten years older I am) I don’t have one single moment (like remembering where I was) because I was 4 years old. I remember a “feeling” during that time and I vividly remember these images. My parents had a new Curtis Mathes color, console television and this was on for most of the three days. Our neighbors would come to our house to watch. I remember the palpable shock and sorrow. I have more vivid memories of RFK. I was older and he had just been to my community the day before. My Senior class had our prom in the same ballroom that he had made his last speech (before the pantry). I remember the train (and going back to his speech after MLK was assassinated). I walked to my friends house and her parents were also glued to the television. When I came back home my friend was walking with me, we were terrified and we held hands. No. He did not.
He also did not want Israel to get nukes

Oswald was killed on my first birthday. President Kennedy's procession was the day after on my older sister's birthday. Our TV never shut off for days on end and there were so many mail order magazines and books almost right away and for years to come about the assassination in our house. It deeply affected my mother and so it did me also to follow research all my life looking for answers. The pall of sadness and inexplicable loss has never lifted.

Wow! Well done on finding this gem. It is surreal to see this, heart breaking to see the kids and Jackie as well as his brother. I am from England and this was before I was born but I think he was a great man and President, such a waste of a life. RIP JFK.

For three days it felt as if the country stood still. And it did in a way.We were all in shock everyone. When it was announced in my hi school that President Kennedy had been shot and we were told buses were coming to take us home NOT ONE WORD WAS HEARD IN THE HALLS NOR IN THE BUS TRIP HOME.RESPECT was shown by all young and old alike.Tears were running down cheeks and sniffles were all that was heard. Rest in Peace President JFK.😢

I was in 8th grade. I remember when it was announced at school. I remember every moment afterward. School was dismissed for several days and my family watched it all on a black and white tv. Everyone was crying. This affected me more than 911. Then the other's that died this way in the years following made for very dark times in the USA!
