    This is the very best How to Play video I've seen so far. You were answering every question I had just as I thought them, and then all of the ones regarding two player games at the end. Very nice flow, examples and organisation.
    Whenever there was something being shown here that was different from other videos, I went to check the rules, and here was correct.
    Well done, I'm glad I found this channel.

    Amazing work with the rules, so straightforward! One thing only to add. The dice value at Home of the great spirit does count if there are buildings in that area so you can take their action.

    At 43:43 the Brown player says he can move it to any hill across the river. In the rules on pg.10, it says the matching hills, however in a two-player game the two hills on the left or right of the great spirit are connected and the action can be performed in either of the two hills on the same side of the great spirit. The brown player had to cross to hills directly above his forest die.

    Fantastic video. I had read the rulebook and then a while passed before I set up the game and I had forgotten a lot already so this video allowed me to relearn what I had already read much easier and now I can play and have the rulebook and player aid I printed off BGG and should be pretty easy. In the end, it's a pretty simple turn action trigger. Play a card and do some stuff or place a die and do some stuff. Thanks so much!

    Wow, that was great. I had nearly given up on understanding this game. Thank you for your hard work on this!
    The theme still escapes me, though I am intrigued. I'd love to hear an explanation of how all of these actions, components, and mechanics glue together thematically. Maybe the rule book covers that. Anyway, thank you again for making the unapproachable approachable.

    This tutorial is fantastic. I love complicated games but yesterday after barely finishing 1 round I became frustrated with how confusing the rulebook was and packed it up, already looking at selling it (perhaps a bit of a hot headed reaction :D ). This video has cleared everything up and i'm excited to give it another go. Thanks!
    Update: Really enjoyed this second playthrough, this video should be linked in the rulebook considering the game is unplayable without it.

      I believe I didn't mention the tie breaker, if it's a draw, it's a draw. :)
      Anyway, it's very unlikely, and even if it happens you can find the secondary criteria in the rulebook.

  • @HALOX30

    there is one error in the setup on your video. you said to start with 1 wood and one jade but you showed 1 wood and one sake. 1 wood and 1 jade is correct, not what was shown. Also you should have mentioned that putting dice higher then the other dice on an action space is only if you want to maje the game harder as said in the rulebook. That is the hard difficulty. Normal rules state that you can put any dice on those spaces regardless of the value.

    • @nithrania-gameinanutshell
      @nithrania-gameinanutshell  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you, regarding the setup error there's an update in the description of the video already.
      However, for those forest actions, at 23:46 I say the value of the die must be *equal or higher*, and that's the standard difficulty of the game (as per the rules in the game box - page 9). You're not allowed to use a die with lower value.

    • @nithrania-gameinanutshell
      @nithrania-gameinanutshell  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello, I checked the physical rulebook, also the PDF rulebook file on BGG and I'm sorry I can't find that "X" which marks the 4th spot. I have the 1st printing (got it directly at Essen last year) so maybe you have a newer version of the rulebook but I can't see any "X" marking that spot. So, apologies if it's not right in the video.

    Great Video! Concerning the pilgrims it is stated in the rulebook that pilgrims may NOT occupy different spaces on the same fork. You mentioned that for a pilgrim of another player it is possible to reach the next space on the fork and it cost only 1 mp. I also looked on BGG and I don't see that rule?

    I’m confused about the scoring on the cards 34:44:00 This doesn’t get mentioned anywhere on the rule book. I also thought that youre sacrificing them during winter?

    • @nithrania-gameinanutshell
      @nithrania-gameinanutshell  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      OK, I mean when you score those Iwakura rock tiles for Yokai cards, you count all the cards - including the ones under your player board. This is stated in the rulebook, p. 15, E 1 (top of the page).

  • @GlennDeBlock
    @GlennDeBlock 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    34:37 count up all the cards you have.
    But why exactly?

    • @nithrania-gameinanutshell
      @nithrania-gameinanutshell  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Oh, it relates to the previous sentence - you score VPs for those rock tiles, and you count those symbols on all your cards (that's what I meant saying "count up all your cards"). I should have said "CHECK all your cards for those symbols". Hope it helps.

    Great tutorial... but another game with 20% too many rules. The basic card/dice mechanisms seem great... But all those mini games and point salads are unnecessary fat, in what could have been a lean elegant beautiful game.

    Thanks for this tutorial, it’s really helped me with this game! A coupe of questions though;
    1. You can only use your pilgrims you have in your spare supply at the top right of the board?
    2. How do you unlock more, is it through placing crystals?
    3. What is the purpose of hiring a pilgrim? I understand it’s if you want to unlock a dice but if you always draw cards at the start of the round why and you unlock dice when you play a card why would you need to waste a pilgrim?
    Thanks

    • @nithrania-gameinanutshell
      @nithrania-gameinanutshell  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you. ☺️
      1. Yes.
      2. Yes, correct!
      3. If you want to play a forest action (with your die) together with the building action as the first action of your round, you need to unlock that die. This can be strategically very important in some situations.
