My Best Grayling Flies

  • My best grayling dry flies is a video about the best fly and few others that are equally as good. These flies are my flies of choice whenever i fish for grayling no matter where i fish it.
    The only times i don't use them is if i notice that fish are very selective, which can happen but far less than people think.
    I tend to have these flies in various sizes to cover more situations and usually that's enough...
    i hope that you will like this video...
    Any comments and suggestions are welcome....
    Cheers
    Vladimir

    Nice tips and fly dressing. One suggestion to avoid the Caddis wing appearance you mention is to tie the CDC wing tips forward over the eye, cut and retain portion of butts, then pull over CDC. Fine dubbing such as Mole or Beaver can be worked around the CDC wing structure forming a firm foundation to retain wing orientation and prevent CDC collapse. Thanks! Good fishes.

    These are almost precisely my go to patterns for wild trout and Grayling - I probably use more paradun deer hair and parachutes than cdc - but I incorporate the cdc in smaller amounts for movement primarily. I'm lazy about changing flies after a few fish.

      Deer is great too. I agree about changing cdc. Whenever i can i use deer hair. My favourite is cdc&elk. Amazing pattern

      Thanks. Sure they will. I usually dont divide flies as grayling or trout flies.... Since they eat same stuff in the river... But grayling sometimes tend to pick smaller insects... I have grayling box.... But basically its filled with small flies... Up to 16.... And i use it on trout rivers too 😀

    @TERRYBIGGENDEN 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Also you talk sense about flies. Although I love so many patterns, especially the old traditional ones. there is so much guff talked about how effective so many flies are. There is no way the hundreds (thousands if we include variants) can each have their own particular appeal to fish. Some of them are just outlandish triggers to the fish-and so they work.But if the fish are hungry. they will not be likely to pass up 'food'. :-)

    • @Oholisfliesandfishing
      @Oholisfliesandfishing  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      😀😀 Agree on that... People give too much credit to the fish.
      There is one thing that is constantly bad on all our flies.... No matter how good we tie... There is hook point sticking out our flies.... 🤣🤣
      Anyway.... I believe that size, shape and general colour are important... So, getting exact shade, number of ribs or gills.... Thats crazy, thats bad fisherman getting an excuse for not getting fish 🤣🤣

      @@Oholisfliesandfishing Ilmdm not a very good angler. Inonly started a few years ago (fly fishing) and left it very late in life. But I enjoy the art of it. I just giggle when I see all the flies around and all the people making big claims for their patterns. I really feel just a handful of types will do. :-) Your flies are a delight and I value your advice.

    • @Oholisfliesandfishing

      @@TERRYBIGGENDEN same here... But i do like to experiment... It gets boring using same patterns all the time. But still, every time i go out fishing i learn something new.... I am fly fishing around 20yrs now, almost half of my life.... And i like the fact that we can never know everything.... Thats part of the beauty for me. If ever i came into the stage of getting all the fish (impossible) i will stop fishing 🤣
