I may not always agree with your methods, but there is no denying that you are performing a tremendous service to novice painters and that should be commended. Immersion into the industry with hands-on training, building their confidence with positive reinforcement and thorough explanation of every trade aspect down to the finest detail - this should be the standard for ALL businesses interested in properly educating and getting the most out of their employees. You're a good dude.
Great Information! Majority of people and painters don’t understand quality. The purpose of accepting bids is not for the cheapest price but rather the best quality of work for the best price. I’m in TX one of my current issue is people charging by square footage of the floor. It’s hilarious what cheap labor has done to the market here.
I am new to the painting business as a company owner. Never did bids before a few mths ago. I put a bid in on a 5600 sq foot home just to repaint the common areas and a "tiny" 18x24 nursery. My bid was $27,342.42 (exact number I dont recall but it was 27 and change) the lowest bid I suspect was dollar store supplies and walmart paint. The closest bid to mine was $12k. I asked the lady why she chose me vs $12k and it simply came down to not having a number in front of 0000's and I shared what product was going to be applied and the why and how it was going to be applied and why that choice of application. All of my paperwork has the sherwin williams logo in the bottom right corner as well. I think through product branding Sherwin Willams is seen by most as a pro brand vs someone using beher or Delux. Glidden and CIL were once viewed as a pro choice for paint then walmart came along. My bid packet is not a short story but it is 6-8 pages as I have a couple different ones for a couple different situations. That job led me to a $23,647.83 job for october. I find in my area the "rich" folks seem to have troubles getting painters. I decided to jump in head first out of bullheaded stubbornness or pure ignorance lol. I live in a city thats barely a city and its in the middle of farm country, A lot of 4-6-8000 sq ft homes on the back roads of those farm roads that dont get the free weekly paper with the ads or internet service is shitty so web marketing is all but useless to them. What I love is they have their mail boxes out by the road so I can slip in little paper without disturbing anyone.
You are absolutely right, not only does your bid need to look professional you also need to look professional going into a multi million dollar home looking like a homeless painter probably isn’t going to get you the job. I like your shirt Chris 😎. When I started in the 90’s Dunn Edwards used to have bid packets that I used and they would come out and reassure the home owner on the quality of paint , help you estimate the paint cost and deliver a sheet of sand paper if needed lol
Anyone that says they know it all is bragging. I have been trim carpenter since 1993, added finish carpentery and painting to my services I hand a 3 cards to the customer, after one man told me he would of hired me but lost my card Why 3? 9ne for the contact, another to place say on a fridge or drawer, the 3rd hand out to another I have microword with my terms and conditions on the back of my estimate. Once the project is finished have one last document the statement showing, the final bill. I get comments and looks of you are a professional No a pro in training, after seeing this presentation, to charge what I do will now become a true professional. Thanks you for this video! To each their own, to be the client I'd be impressed to see this packet, and feel as if I hired a professional.
I just started a tree service business and have 6yrs painting experience. Went out to bid a stump removal and got the exterior paint job. Almost forgot how to bid.
That's what's grate , versatile is key alot of people are great at one thing only I my self thrive to learn as much as I can and perform the best to my ability!!!
As a person who strives to be the best, thank you for pushing not only yourself but others. We want to purchase your bid packets to help increase our business. We are just nervous to invest this amount without knowing for sure it’s value.
i'm down in México but i've been learning from you guys.. and this is one of the most important things we need to learn.. there's a lot of competition and here you separate the best from the rest
20 pages on a packet? Seems like an over kill? I would imagine that for government and commercial jobs then that would be understandable. For smaller residential jobs i honestly think that keeping things simple is best. Work and change of work orders are absolutely necessary but when I bid and submit an estimate/ quote I have a job description with certificates of insurance and if approved, I simply get the job done. Quality and the ability to follow through with every job is my only policy. I do appreciate your videos and leaning a few things of what to do and also NOT to do. Also, cheap labor is a big bummer for those who do quality vs quantity and who are licensed Bonded and insured.
Chris and John you are awesome, Im a fan for a long time, I learned alot from watching your videos. Im about to start up my business, hope it works out great. On a side note do you have a video on the camera gear and drones you use? just curious, you make great videos.
Don't make estimates too complicated. It's easy to just know what your hourly rate is per hour and how long it'll take to paint 10 Sq. ft. and knowing what is needed to complete the job. Don't work for hourly wages. Know your monthly overhead costs plus add profit. Your business needs to earn money by using a percentage, so include that price in your mind, not on the estimate. Don't be afraid of biding too high. Instead, include your expenditures to stay in business. Be honest, fair, and remember the client is your next job. Succeed by learning from your failures of not doing your homework first. A painting business takes years to be successful if you constantly work at it. Be happy.
Awsome video thank you so much but is their anyway you can talk money like show us what a good quote we can give what's to much money and what's a very low quote for like example how would you charge for a front door or garage door stuff like that, I think I would be clutch video 👌🤙
I thought it was expensive until I bought it, I’m now able to charge 1-2k more per house. It shuts down the competition. It’s incredible, I hand out bid packets like it’s my business card.
Simeon commented the 300 dollar bid package was too high.Well,he is a businessman cashing in on a reputation he has built for himself. If you don’t want it,don’t buy it.
Hey good afternoon Chris I would like to know how can I get in touch with you to talk with you about painting jobs period. I am in North Carolina I would like to know if you would ever do a seminar or some type of form here in North Carolina. And if not what would be the closest area that you would be coming to. I am in the process of starting my own Painting Company and one of the things that I do have trouble with and struggle with his bidding and need help with that I understand that your package will show you how to and putting a big package together but the pricing of the job itself giving the estimate is what I need help with. Again my name is Dwayne and look forward to hearing from you.

Your welcome!🤙
Great video Nice job guys
What reversible tip is correct for spraying outside de houses?
For $18,000, that have better better for both inside and outside. And at least 2,000 aq.ft.
@Kenyana Thompson He does do good work, but for 18 grand, he better be paint the whole house, inside and out.
@deadend Doesn't matter. For the amount of money, it better be a big house he's painting.
@deadend I know everywhere are different prices. But still 18k better be a big house.
@deadend If you read the original comment. I stated that for 18k it better have been a lot of work.
18k it better be a mansion
When do you have your classes in October?
At this time we do not have any scheduled

Have you ever watched these vids at .25x speed? Pretty good for a laugh.
William Music how do you do that
OMG... I watch most videos on 1.75; I never thought to slow it down. Damn 🤣
That's was funny at .25 speed, bid packet
I never had a painter talk about themselves and what special things they are going to do…..
300 bucks for a bid package, seems kind of high.
I just took what he said it contains and I can make my own for zero dollars and a little of my time... Lol
I thought it was expensive until I bought it, I’m now able to charge 1-2k more per house. It shuts down the competition. It’s incredible, I hand out bid packets like it’s my business card.
