  • Hey everybody it's prime time animation week on TH-cam! To celebrate I'll be uploading the opening themes from a prime time animated television show each day this week.
    Here is the opening and closing credits and theme song from season 1 of the hit show "The Flintstones." The Flintstones originally aired during prime time in 1960. It was not the very first prime time cartoon but it was the first successful one. In fact The Flintstones was the most financially successful prime time cartoon right up until the Simpsons began its run.
    Hope you enjoy prime time animation week! Lots more to come, request your favorites!

    These end credits actually had to be reconstructed when Turner made the decision to restore them around 1995 or so. While the raw color animation footage had survived, it turned out that no color prints of any credits from the individual episodes could be found. So they had to take the raw footage, find a font as close to the original as possible, and retype everything in. In the process, they took the opportunity to right a few wrongs, such as Mel Blanc not having originally received screen credit for some forgotten reason.

      The Flintstones very quickly slipped away from its original concept as a primetime cartoon for adults, with cigarette sponsors and Honeymooner characters. The second-season's new theme song, with singalong lyrics, seemed to signal that. A little further down the road, Fred and Wilma had a baby, and then Betty and Barney adopted one. After that it was taken for granted that the cartoon was aimed mainly at kids.

      People who imagine Flintstones was a kiddy cartoon. It wasn't, in Joe and Bill's conception. They had some heavy, noirish plots in there. Like the time Fred was falling for Ann Margrock and Dan Duryrock had to come by to straighten him out.

    When The Flintstones first went into syndication they grafted the "Meet The Flintstones" opening and closing titles onto all the episodes. It was great to later see Cartoon Network and Boomerang air the early episodes with these original titles, which I like better. Maybe it was 1961, but I didn't think "Meet The Flintstones" became the theme until 1962.

      @@watchforever1724 and also it was used for a majority of the show's run. This theme, which is known as "Rise and Shine", was used in the first two seasons as well as the first two episodes of Season 3. Many people found it very similar to "This is It", the theme to The Bugs Bunny Show ("Overture, curtains, lights"). By Episode 3 of Season 3, a new intro and theme were introduced, and that of course was the famous "Meet the Flintstones". It was used for the remainder of Season 3 and then until the end of the show's run. When the show entered syndication, "Meet the Flintstones" was used for all episodes, no matter what season it was from. In either the late 1980s or early 1990s, the "Rise and Shine" theme was restored for the Season 1 and Season 2 episodes (I'm not sure about the first two Season 3 episodes). And since then, the correct themes have been used for the correct seasons.

The lady said Fred is a "narcissist" and he is a "misogynist" She said that Wilma, Betty, and Barney "enable Fred to be that way" She called it "the brutal truths." I was told that I was "ignorant" I was "looking at life through rose-colored glasses" and I was "looking the other way" by watching The Flintstones. She said canceling The Flintstones would be good for society because this show demonstrates "unhealthy behaviors." I just enjoy watching this show. I grew up watching the Flintstones in th 1970s and I never saw this intro until about 2011. I had heard it had another intro that sounded like the The Bugs Bunny theme (Overture) but they used more popular Meet The Flintstones theme from seasons 2 to 6 instead. I own season 1 on DVD and this theme has been restored on it. I actually prefer this one over the second one. Recently on the Teletoon network they also started using the original theme song for season 1.

      Steven Brandt, this theme was definitely rare and I have a feeling a lot of people who grew up watching the show probably even knows it didn't exist and like I said I actually prefer this theme song which by the way is titled Rise and shine. It is a lot more catchy. Other shows have had a different theme song for the first season and a different one for the rest. Example was Happy Days with the first season being a re recorded version of Chuck Berry's Rock Around The Clock. With Happy Days on the other hand I preferred the other theme song. Funny thing is most channels used the original theme song for season one back in the 1970's and now. Gimme A Break also had two theme songs both sung by the show's main cast member Nell Carter. I preferred the more upbeat original. It fit the mood of the show. The second theme song was okay but it was too soft and mellow in my opinion.

    • @janeaton3417
      @janeaton3417 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I should also say It was Bill Haley and the Comets that sang Rock Around The Clock not Chuck Berry. Also another show that changed its theme song was Eight Is Enough. Seasons 1 and 2 were an instrumental and seasons 3 to 5 was the more popular version again sung by a cast member of the show. Grant Goodeve aka David Bradford. I preferred the second theme song.

    Recently, they show the new opening of the Flintstones Cartoon with Pebbles alone without Bamm Bamm along with the Rubbles who are going to the drive in movies, and it is Cometh Home Nurse Fred instead of Ann Margret Presents as I watched on the Cartoon Network in the 1990s and early 2000s, and later Boomerang Classic Cartoon Channel from 2003 to 2011. Cometh Home Nurse Fred which is the following of The Blessed Event, which is Pebbles was born near the end of this episode.

    • @janeaton3417
      @janeaton3417 7 ปีที่แล้ว +23

      Hahahaha that is a question I have been wondering for many years as probably the rest of us. The same in the more famous "meet the Flinstones" ending when Fred bangs on the door and yells "Willllllllllmmmmmaaaaa!" I said this is another post but my guess is the cat is much smarter than Fred by climbing back into the glassless window or Fred is too fat to climb back in himself. It has always added humour to the show as well.

    I honestly believe never having remembered hearing or knowing about this original-season, different show opening and closing. I'm old enough to remember watching the last couple of seasons of the show in original prime time with the familiar later show opening/closing, which I thought I remember as the only ones used in all the syndicated repeats I then watched millions of times through the years after that. Great to hear and see.

    It seems like the last few second were slightly altered. As everyone knows this was the first 30 min ( single story ..not segments like Huckleberry Hound and Quick Draw McGraw ie). Also It was aimed at an adult audience it later became more family oriented. The first two seasons were sponsored by the makers of Winston Cigarettes. There was a Winston "bug" in the lower left corner of original episodes on ABC.
