This was a great lesson. Wow. When i see some posts of "my first sculpt" I find it hard to believe that this amazing sculpt is really someones first attempt. I followed your lesson and now I can't believe that I created a realistic looking character on my first attempt. He looks like he had a hard life working in the sun and a couple of botched labotomies.. but looks like a real person. The way to detail the iris so simply is great. Thanks again, keep making these vids, so helpful to keep me inspired!
I’ve been designing my first environment in Dreams and I’ve been a portrait artist for over 20 years and this makes me want to do some character sculptures. I’m loving learning all of these tools. Once I finish my first sculpt I’ll send you a link. Thanks for the motivation keep up your amazing work!!
Martin Nebelong will do!! I was just going to do a face sculpt but then I watched Kareem’s video on character sculpt and though of a badass scene for wolverine concept piece! So far so good. Your video has helped immensely!!
Martin Nebelong oh yeah if you want look up my first ever environment in dreams.. it’s named mountain waterfall by kilartist1 I noticed I forgot to end the cinematic clip!! Just a little missed detail. It inspired me to use it in my game design. I took school for Gabe design for a little over a year but had to drop out do to family issues. So Dreams has me with renewed excitement to jump in and design something unique
yes, i love the 3d sculpting tool of dreams too, is so intuitive and fun, i personally love make character's and vehicle's, but i see some amazing nature props made by the community too, the logic system is a lot less intuitive, but when you learn about how made some kind of logic to make a character fight like a dark souls pg or a vehicle drive like an actual car, the satisfaction is absolute, even make animation's is fun, i think if someone build an editor like this but a little bit more "professional" we gonna see a new age of indie gameing.
what a great tutorial! when i saw you publish this creation on dreams i thought "i wish i could know how it was done", so now i thrilled to have found your master class! i really enjoyed your calm voice and attitude, how you sprinkled some stories about your artistic past and that you stressed the necessity of references. i really enjoying watching this video, thank you!
I had missed this. You are a very great artist and great teacher. I have been drawing too for years, and human faces are what I can draw best but in dreams it's all so hard. 3d is a new world for me, and your videos are helping me a lot! Thank you for this great content, Martin!
@@MartinNebelong I can't wait to start learning to use the move controllers. From what I have seen, the move controllers are a must have both for the arts and technical sides of creation in Dreams.
I loved your work, enjoyed watching you do this amazing art and listening to you giving tips for the dreamers. Me myself don't have dreams game But really like see others make their dreams,, keep it up, thanks for sharing
Thanks for making. I am making heads for a project and ears are extremely hard. Cheek apples, easy, eye sockets, ears, and too many other things are soooo hard. And I'm aiming to make about 30 heads per skin tone, plus animations. Unfortunately, making African American characters is proving a bit more challenging than expected, even in good lighting, but I'll get through it.
Very nice I would recommend since fleck paintinga don’t cast shadows, creating an artificial shadow under the large swoop of hair on the right hand side of the figure it self. Sculpt a solid piece roughly in a similar shape as that hair swoop and set it to invisible in play mode. It won’t be visible but the natural shadow it casts will still be visible. Idk you could play around with it to get it just right. Nice job tho !
It was really cool seeing the process of you making this sculp. I've been on Dreams of lot, but I've not really put the time into making sculptures with as much detail as this. Btw, the end result of the model of your sculp kind of reminds me of James Raynor from Starcraft. I don't know if you used that character as a direct reference, but it looks very similar.
Martin Nebelong how are you able to click on the surface property of the eyes?... Whenever I try to click on the eyes it only allows me to highlight the entire figure/sculpture...
I don't understand English very well. You may have talked about this in the video. Is this sculpting method suitable for future animation? I would like the same cool guide not only on sculpting, but also on animation!
Beautiful works!!! I think you can do a very beatiful game. I love your Last of Us work's too! Personnaly I've a problem with painting mode. I can't paint on my sculpture. When I go to the painting mode, my sculpture become Grey and my brush don't touch it....If someone know why, I'll be happy^^. All the best to you.
Excellent lesson, really. BUT... creating good sculptures in Dreams with only a DualSense is almost impossible ! I'm quite good at drawing cartoony faces since I was a child, but this is completely different, and I don't really feel like investing in those bubble-wands-controllers.
I need to know how to take 2 sculpts and combine them in a way so they are no longer recognized as 2 sculpts but instead 1 sculpt. :) I know how to attach 1 sculpt to another in the 2 different ways but I need to know how to make them become 1 whole sculpt UN-seperatable please respond back to me. :)
@@MartinNebelong That's quite messy! Thanks for your answer. I have another problem: sometimes, when I want to paint my head sculpture, that's no longer possible... The sphere or any other form remains transparent...
@@Amakusa701 hey! So either you added a tint in the sculpt surface settings, or you reached the maximum number of internal edits you can make in your sculpt. That number is very high though, so it's probably because you applied a tint?
@@MartinNebelong Thank you for your answer, I have seen the problem (I added a tint). And can you tell me why the camera sometimes goes mad? Just like the Joycon drift of Nintendo Switch, it turns around even when I don't press any button!
I’ve just dipped into Dreams a tiny bit. This inspires me to leap in and splash around.

Great tutoring. As you stated.. lighting it's key! Reminds me of a stylized Henry Cavill at times
Arrived to this video because I'm starting to try human sculpting. It's great and thanks a lot.
Just did my first face using your tutorial, awesome man! Never thought I'd be able to do something like that!

Hey man, thank you for the kind words! Happy to hear that my tutorials are helpful 😊
I can't thank you enough for this! Just the hair painting part alone is extremely useful info. Excellent tutorial
Thank you for taking the time to do this, I picked up some great tips. The cone shape and inner fleck/looseness trick in particular!
Excellent tutorial. Great point you brought up about turning mirror mode off here and there when creating a face to get a less artificial look.
Thanks! Glad you found it useful 👍

Honestly when you started using the mirrored cone to sculpt out the lips you blew my mind.

Do you know a short cut for soft bleeding in ps controller?
No you have to go in through the shape editor. www.reddit.com/r/PS4Dreams/comments/be9xro/how_do_i_blend_objects/?
When I try to apply the gloss effects to the sphere (for the eyes), it modifies the effect of the whole sculpture =(
Make sure the eyeballs are separate sculpts 😊

For me, designing characters is alot frustrating than buildings and environments.
This face looks like Willem Dafoe.
