The French Admiral was nearly dead in the water when trying to make that turn to port and rejoin the action. He was straight into the wind, his sails were in tatters, and he was down on crew. With out forward momentum it is extremely difficult and time consuming to turn against the wind. He should have turned to starboard so he got some help from the wind and then come down on Victorys' damaged side with his healthy one. AI would never get that though.
He was anchored waiting - that's a human driving it.
I love it when the ships catch on fire and explode!
Its not the actual battle itself that made the video interesting. Its Pixies commentary that made it so .

3 years late, but Apollo, not sure you quite know historical naval warfare. Frigates and Galleons were mostly used for battles before The Ship Of The Line came into existence, and even still, thanks to their agility against these larger ships, were still frequently used.
Also, fun fact about these ships, is that they had to fire the cannons in a wave like form. This was due to the fact that, if all fired at once, the Ship would quite literally roll and sink.

agreed. If youtube can't find a less intrusive and irritating way to place ads people will keep using ad blocker. I installed it after one particular video. 20 minutes long it was, 6 times interrupted with ads. The problem is, with ad block the creator also gets no money for the video, which is kind of sad. I'd rather have an ad on the page outside the video than a video that is interrupted so much it is not fun to watch any more. Then I would disable it.

The important parts of naval warfare are looting the enemy trade routs and blockading isolated islands /military outposts. For those purposes frigates would be used. It would be really cool if in the empire/Napoleon campaign frigate or sloop fleets could move faster on the map. If the next title is Victorian Age I definitly want that feature. At least until the Dreadnoughts come :)

Here's a French surrender joke! When a French ship starts to capsize, the only people who fall over are the POWs in the brig because they all served on ships that didn't sink much. The French were able to all stay upright because they were used to this.
2:30 Yes, frigates had no place in the line, but they did take part in smaller battles. Here, both sides had only three ships of the line, so that qualifies as such a battle.

Darthmod made a huge difference to the AI! I got rocked in many battles because I was so used to the vanilla. Love Darthmod! Makes you really have to think.
At least, land battles... maybe not so much ship combat haha.

Frigates were the eyes of the fleet, they'd go our in front and scout out targets, then relay it back to the admiral.
And thus Lord Nelson was born!

Totally awesome. But you may be correct; AI vs AI could get boring fast.
If you want to pronounce the names of the ships, go to Google translate. Enter the name in the left-hand box. Make sure the language is correctly set. A speaker icon will appear in the bottom left-hand corner. Click on it to hear a computer voice pronoun the word. It's not perfect but it is close. Here is the entry for the ship Thémistocle translate.google.com/#en/fr/Th%C3%A9mistocle
To get the accented characters, use a word processor. They have ways of creating accented characters. You have to look up how.
If you want to learn French, here are some basic rules:
1. In multi-syllable words, the accent is always on the last syllable.
2. A constant on the end of of a word is _not_ pronounced unless the next word starts with a vowel. For example _bois_ is pronounced BWAH, not BWAHS. (_Bois_ means wood.)

Frigates weren't really in major fleet actions, they were instead sent out to protect far-flung colonial possessions and raid enemy commerce, as they were self-sustaining and versatile. They could take on a variety of challenges.

Ever thought of doing a DaC campaign? If you want you could probably ask Galu to acces the WIP 2.0 version. It's already very stable and working as it should be. :)

2:28 - 2:30 Actually your wrong. The British would often use frigates in this time period as a main naval force. For example, in the Battle of Trafalgar the British had a large number of lower class frigates, which they were FAMOUS for, and used them as they commonly did like skirmishers are riflemen on the battlefield, they can be very deadly and especially with their kitting skills. Also I would like not to deter the fact that French and Spanish also had these frigates at the battle of Trafalgar.
I think these battles, and blackwake are becoming favorite battles on this channel

Im pretty sure you can have the crew fight fires by ordering "hold fire" and "stop"/ the crew will effectively have nothing to do and begin fighting the fire. This works on Empires, idk about Napoleon,( potatoe pc man)
or no, just ceasefire. they can still navigate just not attack.
