Jim, thanks for sharing the memories, good and bad. We lived on William St. near Nickley Hollow, off of N. 4th St. The neighborhood is almost unrecognizable from the rundown homes to the over grown trees and bush. I'm Glad I was a child born in the early 50's and lived to see the town at its best.

Great video that you put together, thanks for sharing! I grew up in Duquesne from 1973-2008. Just wish
the city did not go down hill.

I have many fond memories of growing up in Duquesne during the '50s and '60s. I believe that when PennDOT put in the "new" 837 highway through Duquesne, demolishing much of the lower downtown area, the decline of the town began. The departure of USS Duquesne Works was the death blow that sealed the town's fate. I left Duquesne in '69 to attend college and only returned briefly in '91 and "97 to be saddened with what I saw of the "former" town. I can't bring myself to return now - I know that I would be heartbroken with what I would see.

Duquesne high school is situated between Grant Avenue and Kennedy Avenue in Duquesne and between third Street and fourth Street and encompasses the entire block. West Mifflin high school is located on Commonwealth Avenue in West Mifflin.

Labaron26 , you're correct, but it is an important part of everyday life in Duquesne. Located a mere 55 feet from Duquesne, we never split hairs and felt it was "like" our own.

I did hang out at the "Duke" when I was a Teenager on occasion, and it was about the same distance from Kennywood.
