      Bill - dont ask me about riding, I am slow and I crashed. 😂😂With any tool, if you know how to use it, you can get amazing results. When I was about 14 and in wood shop, I had an old guy teach me how to get a perfect 90' cut using a hand saw. I remember it to this day. He know how to use hand tool and was a master at it. Cameras are the same. I dont have all my wildlife settings down on this camera, but I was impressed on what it does with the lenses I have put on there. I will use this set up a LOT in fall. The funny thing is, I got it for macro!! Thank you Bill. 💖💖🤗🤗🙏🙏

    I have the same setup and took some pictures of dragon flies this morning while out birding. Nice green heron! This morning I missed the green herons but did get some nice shots of an American Bittern.
    I agree with you completely about this combination. It isn't perfect but I don't know of another combination for under $2500 US that gives you this combination of auto focus, reach, speed, and the ability to crop. I don't know how you are doing on battery life but I am getting just over 1900 pictures per charge with the way I use the camera.
    I look forward to Sigma and/or Tamron creating RF versions of these lenses that are optimized for the eye auto focus. That will truly make this a great combination.

      Thank you Jeff- my point exactly. For the price, this is an amazing combo. The body is fast and as you say, with so much information, the abilty to crop way in us HUGE. Good day, John! Thanks for your great sharing on this combination. I was shooting birds with my 7D2 + sigma 150-600mm C and was struggling should I upgrade to R7. After watching your video, I finally decided to go ahead to upgrade to R7 on 2days ago, and I am so satisfied with the image quality and its auto focus performance, no regret at all!
    I do landscape photography as well and when I compare the photos taken with 6D and R7 side by side, it is comparable despite of the 6D lowlight performance, the R7 has done it very well!
    R7 and sigma 150-600mm lens are great combo, so far I don't have the focus pulsing problem.
    Again, thanks for your video!

    • @JonnyPink65
      @JonnyPink65  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Shelynn Tong!!! I have not had the puling either and I have really enjoyed shooting my R7. What I have found with EVERY lens is that the little focus point moves slightly and so it sometimes appears to be pulsing but it the focus point shifting slightly - enough to make a difference. If you want to upgrade you set up more, get the RF 100-500 - that is mind-blowingly sharp. What I have been doing is showing lenses mostly for birding but for landscapes...... I thin any camera body and a great lens can take a great photo. For landscapes, it is the eye of the photographer I think that makes for a great phot. My favorite saying is that Ansel Adams did not have half of what we do and his eye made his images iconic!!! 🙏🤗💖 My favorite saying is it is the person behind the lens that makes for a great photo. Too many go buy a new camera without knowing how to take a photo. One advantage of coming from a DSLR is that we had to know how to take a photo!! Enjoy shooting. 🤗

      Hi John, I'm agree with your point! It is more important to know how to use our gear rather than own high end gear but shoot with auto mode. At this moment I'm fine with the sigma 150-600mm, I'm happy with the photos taken with this lens with the money I paid for it.

      Before I get the R7, I know the R7 is definitely performs better than 7D2, eventhough 7D2 is capable of doing serious bird photography. The R7 sensor produce better image quality, especially on noise reduction. I use 6D for birding occasionally, I can get less grainy photo but only if the bird is steadily stand still. With R7, I feel like I have the 7D2 and 6D combined together and im very happy with it!
      The only drawback of the R7 in my opinion, is the weather seal level is not on par with 7D2.

    I was close to getting the Sigma 150-600 C for my son and his m50. I just couldn't commit to to Sigma/Tamron 150-600 based on the several reports on AF issues with Canon mirrorless. There are many Sigma/Tamron owners that say there are no issues at all. Due to the mixed info, I decided to just get the RF 100-400 for my R7 since it's on sale. I'll let son continue to borrow my EF 100-400 L II. Also part of the decision is that I anticipate my son moving on from the m50 and getting an EOS R_ some day. Would rather put more money into RF lenses moving forward. Thanks for the honest video.

Since I have not used the R7 with 4 different lenses (working on another now), I have to say that I was impressed with this on the R7 - more so than I expected to be. And since this is a set up most can afford for birding, I was pleased. It also gave me a comparison with the other lenses as I was able to shoot the same subject. The weight is also a plus. I am still dialing in setting that I like and I think by the time the fall gets here, it will be amazing. I was also going out later in the day since I wanted to ride in the mornings and the birds were not as active by the time I got out there. Thank you, thank you Wildlife Lullaby By Kiran Navale!!! 💖💖🙏🙏🤗🤗

    I recently bought an R5 and took that with my Sigma 150-600 to Bosque Del Apache and was really quite pleased with how that combo worked out. Full disclosure - On another channel, Duade Paton went through some camera and lens settings for this combo that was supposed to reduce issues some have with focus pulsing, especially when shooting at closer distances. I used his suggested settings for both the camera (programed into C1 on the R5) and for the lens (programed with the Dock for C1 on the lens). My results were great and I now don't feel any particular urge to spend $2700 for an RF 100-500. While I'm sure that RF lens is great, I found this R5/ Sigma combo to be just fine and my results were very good, even at 600mm.

    • @JonnyPink65
      @JonnyPink65  ปีที่แล้ว

      That is so awesome. Bosque Del Apache is not too far from where I grew up in Espanola New Mexico. I have not been back in many years since my parents passed on, but I would really like to shoot there sometime. I have seen that post from Duade and I am glad it works. I have mine set stock and have not had an issue. What I have found with EVERY lens, even the native ones, is that they ALL pulse to some degree to I call BS on that. NO LENS hits spot one for a burst of 20 or 100. The keeper rate might be a little higher with a native lens, but I have always been really happy with what I am able to capture with the Sigma and even my Tamron lens when I was using it on my old Nikons. I will say that the 200-500 is one of the sharpest lenses I have used on the Canons, but is it worth the extra $2500??? Even that one was not perfect every time. Sony is not either but that is another story!! 🤗❤🙏

      Yes ! Exactly my experience with my R5 + Sigma 150-600 too ! But now I'm considering the R7, both for more reach, and a back up to my R5. So I'm really trying to see if this same fix will work for the Sigma + R7 ? I'm already feeling like I'll just have to rent the R7 to see for myself. Only 4K but I prefer the screen and the quality. If you can rent it, do it. As far as some saying that the focus shifts..... well, in my experience and in ALL the lenses I have used, it happens to all of them NO lens and body set up is 100% ever. Shoot a burst of 30-40 shots and you will have many amazing shots. Shoot slow and think about each shot and you will have many more. ❤🤗

      @basilbcf ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Chris_Wolfgram If you also used Duade Paton's settings, there is one thing he said that is not correct. When he is showing the lens settings via the dock, he states you don't need to bother with the Focus Limiter settings for the custom settings because you can adjust the focus limit via the switch on the camera. This is, in fact, not correct. As Sigma states in the manual, if you are using either the C1 or C2 settings on the lens, the focus limiter switch is not functional. So what I did was used Duade's settings but with the focus limiter settings via the dock one way for C1 and the same settings but with the focus limiter the other way for C2. Just a little caution that might save you some grief if you try using that focus limiter switch on the camera and find it doesn't work when you're in C1 or C2

    I bird a lot and have tried using Sigma 150-600 with Canon R7. The combo is pretty heavy and feels unbalanced. My shoulder start hurting badly in 30 mins. No such issues with RF 800mm. However lack of Zoom on 800mm makes it hard frame small fast moving song birds. Also Sigma AF is very unreliable with R7. There is lot of hunting . Otherwise a great lens. It's sharp when it focuses and does a better job in low light compared to RF 600 & RF 800 mm.

    • @JonnyPink65
      @JonnyPink65  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have fun with my Sigma, but as far as sharp, the Canon RF 100-500 is incredibly sharp and as a native lens, if focuses faster. Two other options I would offer that have more versatility without so much reach, is the RF 100-400 (faster than the 600 & 800) and almost as light. The other option is an older EF 100-400 that is a fast lens and I I have really enjoyed shooting that on the R7. With all the bigger lenses - I get sore shoulders too LOL. You can rent different lenses and try them, then buy the one that is light and meets your needs! 🤗💖🙏

    I have my R7 and I am waiting to afford this lens. I just came from a local shop just to get a feel for the RF 600mm F11, that is at the very least damn light but that aperture is just killer small especially for our APS-C where I want to try to keep my ISO low. I still think for the money, the Sigma 150-600mm contemporary is the best bang for the buck to get these shots. So far I've only been using my Sigma 18-300mm F3.5-6.3 that does ok, but I want more reach.

    I was thinking it would be more worth it. I have a Canon R10 and I want a telephoto lens for animals.
    I automatically thought of the RF 100-400mm. Native and with high focusing speed in addition to the low price (in my case 600 euros).
    On the other hand, there is the option of the sigma 150-600 contemporary, with a higher price (800 euros) + adapter (70-100 euros). What do you think is more worth it, losing those important mm in bird photography or the focusing speed in addition to perhaps other problems you have for not being Native?

    • @JonnyPink65
      @JonnyPink65  24 วันที่ผ่านมา

      In the past, I was in favor of Sigma and Tamron lenses. I enjoyed using them, but as of late, I have found that that native Canon lenses are just faster and more consistent. I do hope that both are allowed to make RF focusing lenses in the future. Not the answer you may be looking for as budget plays into it too and I understand that. The R10 is one body I have not used, but I have used the R50 with the RF100-400 and it was pretty awesome. The other is the RF 200-800 that should still be sharper than the Sigma and more consistent if that helps. 🙏🤗💖

Whether I should buy Fulframe or Crop sensor camera. Whether I must use Canon 100 - 400 mm or Sigma 150 - 600 mm lens. Which combination will be the best one & their results. After all photography depends on the skill of the person behind camera, but quality - performance of gadgets & devices are also important.

      Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! I am no expert by any means - just someone who pushes myself to be as good as I can possibly be at what ever I do. Each camera body is just a tool - how you use it and set it - and your passion, is where the magic comes from. I can use some of my old cameras and get great shots but I have been practicing for a long time. The lenses do make a difference and so does the tech in the new bodies that makes it easy to get great shots. But there again, that are extensions of the camera body tool. I try to say it in each of my videos but there is no perfect set up or combo. For someone looking for a lightweight set up, I might recommend the R7 with the EF 100-400 adapted to it - I love that set up. The RF version is lighter and less expensive, but for ME, I found that is too slow for my taste and I was not happy with the photos I was getting - on a whole. The sigma is good, but it is heavier. If money is not a problem, the R7 with the Canon RF 100-500 is simply a stunningly sharp combo - probably the best I have shot with the R7. I do keep the ISO low on the R7 like I used to on my old DSLRs. The R5 and the Nikon Z9 - you can push the ISO and it is not a problem. And, it is all personal taste. Sony has stunning autofocus and I have owned a bunch, but I do not like the color so I do not use them - it does not work for me. Thank you - I do try to keep is simple. It makes it easy for ME!! 🤗🙏❤

      Adapted. The Sigma lens is designed for the older EF mount. As a 3rd party lens manufacturer, the make lenses with mounts for Nikon, Sony, Canon etc. The new mirrorless cameras have a different size mount at the front of the camera so an adapter is required where the mirror would have been on the DSLR for the correct spacing. The electronics also allow the new focus systems to work with the older lenses. That is what adapted it. 🙏🤗💖

      Hi Mary!!!! Well, I have not yet used the Sigma 300-800 and until you mentioned it and I looked it up, I did not know it existed. Well, my opinion on comparing an apple to pear, the R5 photos on the larger area sensor are smoother and it handles the higher ISO better. The R7 gives you more reach and a LOT of cropping freedom with all that info packed into the little tiny sensor...... but I dont like the images at higher ISO and that is just my preference. The best lens I have used with this camera is the 100-500 ( I did not try it with a tele but will soon), and my older 70-200 EF with a 1.4 tele. It only gives me 448 MM to work with but I can crop in all day long. I am going to be trying the Sigma 60-600 that I just rented. And, I was personally happy with the Sigma 150-600 Contemporary lens that everyone seems to bash - I think it is a fantastic lens. Set at 600mm on the R7 give you 960mm of safe distance and reach. I will say that I was not a fan of renting until recently. It has allowed me to try a variety of lenses without buying. Two blew me away so much that I bought one (the Laowa 25mm), and reluctantly returned the RF 15-35mm F2.8. LOL I do plan on buying the 100-500 at some point, but will again rent if first with a tele. Both are great cameras and all lenses can take a great photo. It is all about the person behind the camera capturing the images that make magic!! Thank you Mary - I wish I could give a definitive but we all shoot differently and want different things from a camera. I can only give my opinions based on my use as to what has worked for me. 🤗🙏💖

      The eye AF works as well with this lens as it does with all my Canon EF lenses adapted to this body. I did not notice a difference between the eye AF using the RF 200-500 either. The RF 100-500 may be the sharpest lens I have used, but the Sigma lens still produces some really amazing shots. The AF works perfectly - it locks onto the eye. ❤🤗🙏

      Hi Schneider Marco!!! For me and from my experience, I would take the Sigma over the Canon 100-400mm lenses all day long. Half the price, more reach and (at least it has been for me), better performance with the Sigma overall. No lens - NO LENS is perfect, but for the price, I prefer this one adapted to the R7 over the R5. And, I would NEVER use the new 600 or 800 lenses - at that aperture, they are a waste of time and money. Again, just my opinion on all of this. All I need is one great photo and I think I got at least one. And as I said.... it is the photographer behind the camera that makes for a great picture. So many have no clue how to control their light and setting..... they buy a new set up (Sony) thinking they are going to go out and get a mind blowing photo in jpeg on auto. Not so unfortunately. That is also say - for what it is and the cost, it is an awesome lens. Thank you Schneider Marco!! 💖💖🤗🤗🙏🙏

      @JonnyPink65  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yorkshire Koi!!! Nope, I have not found it to be a problem. That 'pulsing" that has been talked about, is nonsense. EVERY lens, EVERY LENS pulses to some degree. If you take bursts, or hold down the shutter button with ANY camera lens set up, you will get many shots perfectly in focus, and some that are not. Again, that happens with EVERY lens period including my 500 F4.. I will ask you ..... if you take a burst of 200 shots, how many are you going to share to social media, or print? One or two I would guess as will every one else including me. This lens is designed as an affordable birding lens. If you have the cash, get the Canon RF 100-500. It is an amazing lens at almost 4 times times the price. The original EF 100-400 adapted to the R7 works better than the slower and new RF version. The older EF L 70-200 with a 1.4 tele is also an amazing combo on the R7 - but all are way more expensive.
      I have used all of them and have video on each with sample shots, and found the Sigma 60-600 to be about the same only heavier.
      This is a budget birding lens and for that is it awesome - go out, shoot and have fun. It is not a lens I would use for a wedding or an event. But for the price, I think it is awesome!! Thank you Yorkshire Koi! 🙏🤗💖

      I only partially agree with you there. I've been using the Sigma 150-600 for years on a 7D Mark2 and recently on a 90D. A great lens and great value for money. But on an R7, let's be honest, you're not that happy with the lens at the moment. Really hard to focus properly. Yes it is, I agree with you. But it was really difficult to test it myself. I've now also switched to a 100-500 Canon, but it clearly costs 3x as much, but it's also a very big difference.
