Ohh! My hook and eyes always wobble around no matter how tightly I stitch them, it must be cause I didn’t stitch down anywhere but the eyelets, that makes so much sense now haha

Thankyou so much for this. I'm sewing a petticoat for an event. I had a waxed nylon thread handy so I used that instead of cotton thread and it definitely feels much stronger and secure. lining up multiple hook and eye closures is definitely tough
Thank you, I have put on at least 20 of these closures and it is always a pain getting the hook exactly where I want it, I always sewed one of the eyelets first. My next thing to do is redo four that gave me problems and are not well placed. Thank you again for the demo.
I just *attempted* to sew on a flat trouser-style hook & eye and the result was so hideous I knew I needed some help. Thank you! It’s an older video but exactly what I need right now. 👍🏼
Thank you for your detailed explanation. I found very old British hook and eye leaflets in Mom's stash, that have 15c marked on them. I'm so glad to learn the correct application and stitches that secure the whole hook and eye. Also - what the bar is used for. I will be sewing on those for an overlapping fabric project I'm busy on. 🙂
Thank you. I'm sewing a dress that closes entirely with hooks and eyes, and stupid me didn't go for a hook and eye tape, but decided to set in every one of these. The problem is that there's boning inserted underneath, so it's bulky and difficult. If I take out the boning, I risk accidentally sewing the boning canal shut. Tried it on a pair today, it was a disaster: took LOOONG, had zero control, no strategy, and both parts kept gliding out of place. In the end it was way too close together. So I'll reopen tomorrow and try again - let's see how that goes.
1:45 - I wondered why I couldn't buy waxed thread in the sewing shop. Then I realised what this _probably_ means is using ordinary thread and dragging it through beeswax. And yes, the sewing shop _does_ sell a beeswax applicator - although I now use some blocks of beeswax that I already owned. Works great to stop thread tangling when hand-gathering too.
So grateful for this video as I have a pretty dress I just bought, but there are buttons at the chest area and the waistline that seem to pull a bit and I really need a hook and eye at each place so I am not tugging at my dress to pull them together and give it a nice smooth finish. QUESTION: Which side do I sew the hook and the eye on? Thank you.
PS so I am wondering if I should use an embroidery thread, I don’t want it to look sloppy and I didn’t know if you had any videos with a similar situation, thank you so much.

my garment has the abtting edges- I didn't even REALIZE i cld put the hook on the edge, i was worried about lining up the hook and eye overlapping__ thank you!
I just purchased a white dress that is open at the top. The opening comes down and around like a “U” with little loops on each side. I don’t know if there is a way I could attach a photograph but I will look into that. I purchased a white covered hook and Eye to sew at the top of the “U”. It will look very nice if I can sew it accurately, but my question is what kind of thread should I use because the hook and I will lay down on top of the opening not under it. It is a decorative item. (Sorry I could not go back and edit the word “eye” correctly!)
Great video! What would you recommend for a cardigan sweater? I would like to keep it closed around the stomach. I have searched and can’t find any videos on how to accomplish this. Thank you 😊
Words cannot describe how much I hate sewing these stupid things! I love making trousers, but the closures are so fiddly and time consuming! The bane of my sewing existence. Thanks for the tips

I have always used scotch tape to place them and sew them on with a small zig zag stitch... I also sew buttons on in this manner..

What do you mean by a waxed thread? Is it a thread you have treated with beeswax or something you buy. I used dental floss testing it out fwiw 😂
