While one should not speak ill of the dead I have to say after reading Garner's autobiography I got a bad image of him. He seemed rather thin skinned and a real intolerant man of opinions that didn't match his own. A lifetime liberal democrat, he took several cheap shots at Charlton Heston and Steve McQueen due to their republican beliefs. He also took a shot at Charles Bronson, apparently he didn't get along with him during The Great Escape. I think he was a bit of a blowhard, although I found him to be a good, but not great actor.
