I honestly don't understand how most people don't (want to) realize how important was their relationship. Specially to Sherlock, since he's the one still thinking about Moriarty. I'm not talking about romance, but there's more to them than any other ship on the show. Even Andrew Scott said it.
We as humans may dislike someone but when we do we just avoid them. It takes passion to have love and hate happen. And sometimes both can happen at the same time. Fictional characters are just like people. The author gives birth to them and weaves a story that hopefully sucks us in and involves us in the events happening there. We laugh and cry and are amazed at all the emotions that well up in us.
Forever is not enough. Most people never experience that kind of Love in any lifetime. For those who do it is a frightening and transforming wonder that you never forget for eternity. You will feel the most passion and pain ever. Love and hate are flip sides of the same coin. Making love is entering your lover's body and wandering there within. Their mind, heart, skin and soul and they in you. Jim and Sherlock are psychic doppelganger twins and soulmates. They are both geniuses, batshit crazy and passionate. The longer the game goes on the deeper the pain. The deeper the love and the need. It may have started out as a revenge or mind game but Jim fell and got trapped in his feelings. That is why he owes Sherly a fall because he has already fallen himself. Now Jim wants to dive into Sherly's ocean and drown him the way he is drowning. He now wants to love and protect Sherlock but he can also sense how mindfucked Sherly is. Jim doesn't know the half of why but he has his suspicions. That is why I believe Jim is forcing things by faking his death. He wants Sherly to feel his loss. Sometimes you don't realize what you have until you lose it. Tear down the walls around Sherlock's heart and start the all consuming fire that Jim feels himself.

I have viewed video clips where even Benedict Cumberbatch calls his character Sherly when talking about Sherlock. Sherlock, genius that he is, can be strong smart and cunning. Sherlock can also be a whiny neurotic and petulant dark character. It's those times where the nickname Sherly fits him. We are talking about a character who enjoys beating corpses and watching public executions. Sherlock has a dark side. The BBC Sherlock series often sanitizes his darker character flaws to keep the fans happy. He was written as a very multi faceted character and that part of him shouldn't be ignored.

After Jim was lost from Sherly's memory all the emotions were gone too. Sherly when he looks at Jim feels nothing, remembers nothing. Sherly is compelled to chase Jim and doesn't understand why. Mesmerized by Jim. Sherly has forgotten Jim but Jim has never forgotten Sherly. An unimaginable pain to love someone so deeply who no longer has any memory of you. All the drugs in the world can't kill that sorrow. All the games in the world won't solve this puzzle. Sherly in a sense is Jim's sleeping princess. Can Sherly be awakened with a kiss ? Who knows ? This cannot be forced, Jim wants Sherly to come to him. That is the only way it will be real.
As a writer I am always curious about creating characters. If you give a character a birthday and breathe life into them do they follow the rules of any other spirit that takes on a body ? Are characters compelled to continue to come back to workout issues and problems the way souls are ?
