Important update: The U1/M11 metro from the Airport has been extended to Gayrettepe, which enables passengers to directly transfer to the M2 line to Taksim and beyond, as well as the Metrobus. No need to exit in Kagithane anymore, unless you want to reach destinations along the M7 line.
This is the best video i have seen on getting from the airport to city centre. And i have been researching on this for 2 hours or more. I am so impressed that i am going to check out your other videos. Hope they are as good.

Thank you for this video! I think bus would still be a better option apart from taxi. How long would the journey be to Kadikoy via bus? Do the airport sell sim cards as well upon arrival?
The person with the card taps the card repeatedly on card reader as their fellow travellers enter the station. Once all the travellers have entered, the card holder is the last person who taps in. Simples.
@@foodloverasian143 Agreed. I was met by a friend at the airport. Got the bus to Taksim and metro to my apartment near Galata Tower. Got myself an Istanbulkart and felt brave enough to do the return journey on the 3 metro lines 🤣 Istanbul is a wonderful city ❤️
@@mariuspoparascu1822 I personally used cash for mine which was straightforward as I had taken Lira with me, but my Turkish friend used a credit card...but the machines can be "temperamental" with cards.
Turkey like many countries eg Japan etc should have one common transportation card/kart , which could be used in all the cities of Turkiye because a card of one city cannot be used in another city and a tourist loses leftover money from the previous city card he/she has visited. I hope concerned authorities look into the matter. This could save a lot of time, money of the tourist and the hassles for obtaining a card of a new city...🌹☺️

We hope to respect the tourists. We visit Turkey several times, and the last time in the year 2020 for five months. I reside in Turkey. GUYS HELP me please. I have a transit of 5.5 hours and I was planning on meeting someone in Turkey there during my transit. So during that transit I’m planning to go outside of the airport. Is this possible? (I’m not talking about a visa, I have a Turkish ID alr, but rules, regulation and time-wise? And how much time do you think I need, to go to my transfer second flight all the way outside from the airport. How many hours is enough do you think?
I don’t think you have enough time. Unless you just need to meet and greet. Traffic sux and taxi is the only easiest way and fastest if you need to. Otherwise you won’t have enough time
I Agree. 5 hours is cutting it too close! Traffic using a taxi. The public transport will be around 1H 45 min (one way) depending on the time of day. Maybe your friend can meet you at IST airport instead?
To go to Taksim, do not need to buy ticket in the booth counter. Just go directly to the bus and pay to the driver. Cash and card payment accepted! Ticket cost 201 lira as of June 2024.

True. It’s one of the way to save money and traffic. Especially taking taxi is not the safest there. Either way but I have to agree with you. It’s a lot of work and walking
I'm planning my 1rst time visit this may... the flights from madrid arrive kind of late. What would you recommend? To go to the city center by taxi o rent a shuttle? 🥹
As a local i do not recommend taxi for you, they will probably try to scam you. You can travel safely even in the middle of the night if you are in touristic and busy places so dont worry. i recommend you to take the metro line, they extended the line to Gayrettepe which you can take the m2 taksim line without taking any other lines but the problem is currently metro line is not running between 00:00-06:00. Things can change until may. If it doesnt the best choice seems like taking the shuttles called havaist.
