Dr. Mike...I gotta say man...I've been on vacation for the past week and stumbled across your channel early into it and I've been watching every day since then. Wow...in short...this has changed my life. I've recently turned 50 and I'm absolutely loving using what I'm learning. I've started four meals per day, 40-50 grams protein each. This feels completely normal and sustainable, unlike IF and six+ meals per day. I've lowered the weights and my technique is really on point. Three count negative, two count hold in the stretch, then accelerated positive...it is unbelieveable how the muscles are worked, the joints are saved, and my mobility is up a lot. I'm doing three full body sessions each week...three sets max per bodypart...sometimes two. Each bodypart feels fried ad I'm completely spent at the end. But I feel like I'm growing like a weed...at 50! It's been a really long time since I really put all the pieces together. This is amazing and wanted to share my excitement about it. Thanks!

Sometimes I'm in the office, some days I'm in the field. And my night job, I'm a waiter. The app is great for hitting my macros with protein and fat, and a good general idea of carbs, though I usually overeat on carbs because I'm moving so much with little shift in overall weight.

this guy is one of the best. Amazingly informative content (both the videos and the online guides). Definitely someone, I trust and look to for advice. I wish he could more openly talk about "supplements" as I am now wondering if his training recommendation for Training Volume (MRV, MAV, MEV, etc.) are based on the assumption that you are taking "supplements" or not.

    • @Cwillz303
      @Cwillz303 3 ปีที่แล้ว

The training volume recommendations are pretty wide, general windows- and he’s given some pretty good guidelines on how to find *your* volume landmarks (offhand don’t remember which videos but you can probably Google it pretty easily. Long story short, use a baseline performance, ie benching 225 for 10, and add sets to your program until you notice 225 for Reps backsliding; then you know you’ve gone a bit too far. If you can maintain 225x10 or add Reps… seems like you’re doing good!), so it matters less if someone is natty or enhanced, versus if *you* are natty or enhanced while you follow the process of finding the volume landmarks.

52 male here and I have an at home-diy equipment strength training starting at basic body weight stuff. The one thing I definitely have completely squared away is the food choices. I have a strict whole food-plant based diet. At my weight I"m gonna stick with a basic 100-120 grams of protein, but I'm well above on calories. Very easy for me and a big food that has good protein while eaten in bulk is whole wheat bread. Whole wheat pasta and black beans is my staple, with kale and spinach and cayenne pepper. Drinking tea and eating various fruit. No oil, salt, sugar refined foods or refined grains, of course. I can up beans and lower pasta to get a lot more protein if needed.
The only thing I need is exercise discipline. :-) *If* I stick with it I will improve pretty fast imho and my legs have been pretty good in the past so restarting that should go faster.
So it's mostly whole wheat pasta, black beans, lots of spinach and kale and some fruits. Living alone helps greatly to avoid temptation of other people's foods.

Dr. Mike - an american russian immigrant jewish master chef and body builder with at least a doctorate on dinosaurs and guns.
A shake: a very pleasant way to cram more proteins in your regular diet when you're not well equipped to eat lots (and don't want to include too much meat a day) and may suffer from digestion issues. Personal opinion. It's amazing how big of a difference a 40g protein shake does for your daily meals and gains if you're struggling to find the balance with eating and sufficient protein towards best results you can get with your training.
Do you think there are people in the business (like serious bodybuilding) that don't take "special supplements"? Of course there has to be bodybuilders who don't use them, but the interesting thing to me is where would the line go, how far behind does someone get left when they don't take those? Like where would dr. Mike be without them? I can't imagine insanely behind, but obviously there has to be a noticeable benefit to go for them. On the other hand I don't believe that they can make just anyone Arnold.
I can respect the choice to go out and state on camera that you take them. That requires some guts even though it's more about weak ego to pretend you're not using something if you are, the truth doesn't change. Someone might see that as a reason to stop believing the lectures, the science behind them as well oddly enough, but in my eyes the transparency builds more trust. The foundation still needs to be right if you want to reach extra high with the additional stuff. And I'd rather have someone who takes the supplements and never lies about the important things than someone who doesn't take them, but doesn't tell you the truth about things.

@@hemingway3508 Haha I mean in some cases it is ya, such as shopping and the thing that I want is up on the top shelf. So I either have to scale the shelves like Cliffhanger, or begrudgingly ask a tall person to help me.
But it does have its advantages in regards to biomechanics. Less distance to travel when pulling deadlifts, shorter bench press, and squat.
It's all about embracing what you got and utilizing the advantages.

All those calories but no emphasis on Omega's or any other types of healthy fats? You could easily drop 50 grams of carbs to get another 20 grams of fish oil/black cumin seed/olive/ or any other type "healthy" fat of choice in there.. I could be wrong but I feel that would be a bit more optimal🙏🏼

Here's what 3800 calories of clean food looks like:
2 cups of white rice (dry)
    1 cup of lentils (dry)
2 cups of mixed veg (carrot, pea, corn, frozen)
    4 large chicken breast
    2 Tbs butter.
Makes 5 500-600g portions.Eaing it all physically hurts.

I'm guessing/presuming the BIG change to supps was a little more gear in general PLUS the incorporation of HGH + insulin (lantus possibly).
Why? That trio (gear+hgh+insulin) can really help with consistently pushing up weight while maintaining good BF% like you did (veins in abs), within reaosn ofc! and at low dosages too!
    400mg-1g gear, 3-6iu gh, 10-25iu lantus

Hey Dr.Mike! First off, I appreciate all your videos, and I’m slowly going through them to learn as much as possible.
So, currently, I am in mass gaining phase, and I have been slowly adding calories. My question is, how do you determine when to increase? Currently I try to wait two weeks, and if I do not see an increase in weight, I’ll add 100-200 calories. Is that optimal? Or should I take a different approach?
    Thank you!

Right before i got to 200 lbs i started losing a little weight. It took about 4 days of thought and calorie increase of 500 to figure out that my calorie needs finally increased after gaining 25 lbs (4'500 avg to now 5'000 avg), whole foods is the way to go mines all plant based, getting rid of preservatives additives food colors ect.... that bog down the system especially for hardgainers can only take so much toxin/garbage load in food before it starts to resist adding more bodyweight, wish i did it 10 years ago in my 20's o well.

Hey, Seasoned salt is one badass broad use additive. I use it on all kinds of things. Some things it makes taste a bit sweeter, some get some added zing, some it makes more savory, and all from one Shaker, it's amazeballs.
