Trygve, the BBC hates any form of British nationalism, pride in our national identity/ethnicity, ancestry. They are today run by a gaggle of internationalists and Marxists. They would rather an October revolution had taken place here too in 1917. Mostly today they churn out an unceasing tide of anti-British propaganda and teach kids our history was so terrible, our Empire, and we owe the world everything and have no right to anything, least of all pride, and of course that Islam is wonderful and noble.

Brilliant. How they recreated the sounds using authentic military weapons from the time is just astounding. I thought they would have been forced to use artificial sounds or those from modern weapons but the fact that we're hearing the way shells actually sounded is just amazing. And the guy trudging in the mud and loading/cocking (?) the rifle. Little details that add so much. Great job to everyone.

His level of visual storytelling is unmatched by today's lazy film directors and writers who only seem to go for the cliche action packed glimmering cinematic moments rather than building a believable world with relatable characters. I watched the whole movie "They Shall Not Grow Old" on BBC2 last night,it was wonderful.....the colourisation makes what those brave men (and boys, some were only 15) went through in the trenches and on the battlefield all the more real.,,,It would have been Hell but there were lots of smiles and good humour amongst the men too....Us Brits Are the masters of the sort of "Gallows Humour" necessary to get through such tough times...Thank you Peter Jackson, the film brought me to tears on more than one occasion.

I will definitely being seeing this in theaters on 1 of the 2 days it's out. It's incredible to see such old footage brought into the modern times so that we can actually get a more realistic taste of what it was like with the frame rate, color, and sound adjustments made. It's incredibly how much detail are in these films, we just can't see it in their old state without these adjustments.

i have never been this much hyped for any movie, the amount of technical edits they did to recreate the original raw data from that era, smoothing out the frame rate and making the movement seems fluid and expanding the scene with 3D but still using real assets taken from that era is just a total wet dream. not gonna lie.

I watched the film last night, it was a simultaneously mind-blowing and sickening experience. This film should win every technical Oscar going, it's a phenomenal experience, and a fantastic deployment of technology to create a genuinely thought-provoking film.

This is the most amazing thing I've ever seen especially after watching the trailer after what Peter Jackson has done it's amazing to me in a way it's kind of unbelievable but when you look at how he does it and how authentic this really is it just blows your f****** mind but this is how history should be remembered remastering actual footage adding color and bringing out the authenticity of it and actually show people what happened with these people went through what they experienced

I have sooo much respect for this man! i love history always have sometimes i feel like im the only person who appreciates it. but now that its in color just maybe people will care about history. how people interacted how people dressed, what was expected, what was the cuisine like 100 years ago from a country i have never been too?....i actually got into cooking and i can cook well and its all because of history, i can tell you 16-17 century Spanish food is extremely tasty. learning history will teach you how to live.

I colour singular photos and pictures with Photoshop like it can be seen in some of the clips here. It takes me hours or days to do a single photo. The fact that these guys were able to colourise enough film for an entire film and likely still have more that didn't make the cut is absolutely mindblowing to me.
