love the channel, have learned too damn much from you to even list but this video bumped you to legend status for me haha. as a bank guy, they’re a huge friend to me. you’re a real one tyler! thankful for all the knowledge you’ve given me and others
I realized this very thing one time at a cottage. Every morning and a few times during the day like clockwork, there would be seagulls, loons and a handful of other birds swooping in on the same spot. After the 3rd day I finally swam out to see what was so special about that spot. Turns out it was a big rock hump off shore (about two feet under the surface) that bass and pike were using to push bait up. Only a few fishing boats ever stopped there, and usually in between the bird frenzies.
YES!!! Species to look for; Blue Heron, sea gulls, Osprey, Bald Eagles, Loons, and Egret’s. Just a few species I have caught fish from following around. I’m a strong supporter of using other fishing species to aid in spotting what’s going on under the surface. Great video!
One thing I learned from watching herons is how they slow walk when approaching the water. When I am fishing from the bank, I walk slowly and gently as I approach my spot. Fish can detect vibration from foot stomping and can get spooked by sudden visual motion.
Great information, this is when you know someone is trying to teach others and not just “blow smoke up our butts”! The reason I say that is because I have experienced the first 2 examples you mentioned and have seen it firsthand myself. Thanks for putting out such detailed and quality videos. I agree with one of ur other viewers comments “Legend Status”!👍🏻🇺🇸🎣
Tyler, here in NH loons are a good indicator of bait fish. The problem is if you trick a loon with your lure you are in for a hell of a fight with it and Dept of Fish and Game can get involved. I usually just have to wait out the loons and find my own fish. Great video. Those stories are awesome.
You are so correct about using birds to find fish. It’s such a natural way of fishing. But be aware that gulls in particular are kind of dumb. They will go after topwater baits. I caught one by the feet recently on Lake Champlain and it screamed all the way to the bank. After trying to bite me numerous times as I held it, it finally calmed down as I removed the treble hooks from its foot.
I have a friend who always seem to do well. He's old school. He uses moon phases and current weather trends and Birds. To locate and catch fish. He's usually not going only for bass, primarily Bluegill, catfish and striper. Still he finds fish by riding around looking for birds. Awesome old school knowledge.
I believe the white Egrits are called Snowy Egrets. Down south in the Winter I follow the Cormorants at ponds stocked with trout. Makes it easy to target the bigger bass, and also compete with the Cormorants for some trout. It's not easy but it's fun.
Tyler, is it bad I find myself checking your channel more than my own because I don't want to miss you hitting 100k 😅😂 In all seriousness though, so stoked and excited for this future accomplishment. Any day now.
This is the good stuff. This seems intuitive when we don't let all of the modern overt hinking get in the way. Our ancestors understood this. Thanks for bringing it up on your channel.
Couldn’t agree more. This past weekend I ran across a heron who was caught in trot line (hate those damn things). I went over and cut him loose. He climbed up on the shore looking very thankful and just stood there. I wanted to stay around to make sure he was ok so I spot locked right offshore from him and fished drop shots. I caught my two of my three largest fish of the day right in front of him.
The perfect ending would have been, “I didn’t know how long he’d been there, so I switched poles and caught a bluegill. I tossed it up on the bank, and he eagerly ate it.”
I followed with what you've said Tyler an caught some nice bass because of it. Also if u see insects on surface on the water, flies dragon Flys bass will jump an eat flies or dragon flies
Love all your material Ty. All my local lakes are electric only. Think you could breakdown how you would fish a lake if you didn't have the ability to jump from spot to spot easy? Feel like I flip a coin and hope I went the right direction that day lol
Has nothing to do with birds but it has to do with nature. It’s subtle at times and I have never heard anglers talk about it. But have you ever ran the pollen pattern? At least that what I call it. Fishing pockets that have a thin coating of pollen on it has paid off for me lots. Most anglers don’t notice it. I don’t know it is about it. But it works.
Super great and awesome video brother! Just exactly what I was looking for. Just subscribed to you not too long ago maybe a day or two ago, I'm looking for informational channels and/or videos in general that teach me something but entertain me as well. I unfortunately just had to let a different channel know that I wasn't really happy with the video that they had out because it lacked all of that that I told you was good. Now I didn't bad mouth them or anything, but I told them, it just seemed to me like I was watching a video of two guys out on the water having a good time fishing together. Not that that's a bad thing, it's just not what I'm looking for in a video, especially about bass fishing. I'm looking to see some nice views of what you're doing, but I also like to know how you are going about that. I asked them on a comment that if they could at least give us the location where they were fishing. A lot of anglers / TH-cam anglers don't like to give out their locations which could be a little understandable. Anyway thanks again for what you do, I appreciate it a lot! I'm hoping to get enough information together and possibly start a TH-cam channel myself on something similar. God bless!
I think I always paid attention, but you hit it straight on! Jimmy Houston says they are the real pros...they don't eat if they find fish. I'm not usually in the same place over and over...I move between moving water and lakes... 15- 20 options in an hour around me... but I do always notice the birds and eagles!
This was a funny because I just watched 2 herings get slammed by big bass in 2 different locations . The birds did get away but they had to work for it lol.
Great vid..no pro has your energy ! 2 points nothing scientific just Fromm my log. The birds can really save a day....but they have also made me chase nothing and look like a fool. I still love um.
This is so weird. Yesterday I decided to go north on Alum on the Alum creek side and go as far as I could til basically I ran out of water. That's where I noticed the birds. ODNR has placed nests for birds. There is a lot of stumps and trees submerged up there. I noticed that they were leaving the nests and going to particular trees or stumps. Didn't even think about what you said in this video. The water was chocolate milk and I couldn't see bait fish. As I came back south I was able to see bait fish. I am astounded by the number of shad schools and this size of them. So the question I have is if you find a mega school in a channel or pocket and they don't seemed threatened does that mean there are no bass in the vicinity?
Hey Tyler I had a question for you. My local fishery is a man made horseshoe shaped lake. I just can’t seem to pin down a pattern on this lake, so you have any tips?
I'm always looking for birds, when I fish Chickamauga , Watts Bar, Melton Hill and Nickajack especially in the winter I'm following the birds , had some epic days thanks to birds, caught my PB 8.13 largemouth on Chickamauga following birds attacking shad and caught some big stripers at Watts Bar, now its also hurt me, just like Tyler saying you have to time it right I've timed it wrong or just unlucky a few days out just missing the blowups and running around like a I'm playing whack a mole
Pretty gutzy, throwing a top water while dive bombers are are hitting bait fish. Have you ever caught an osprey, eagle or sea gull? My friend caught an osprey & I caught a sea gull once, IT SUCKS! Just Saying😬
I love your vids Ty, but I have to disagree with your view on electronics. Now don’t get me wrong, a traditional fish finder…. All good. Side sonar…..yeah I’m ok with it. But this live scope. No…no I don’t think it’s fair OR fun to watch. What happened to hitting a lake and looking for fish. From above the water. Using skills you learn, from folks like you, to go and FIND fish. It just take the fun out of fishing AND takes the fun out of watching fishing. I can’t remember the last time I watched any fishing tournaments on TV in the last 2 years or so.
So what do you do when you are fishing and the heron flies over right next to you and you still don't catch nothin??? LMAO That was me last weekend at the pond.🥲

This is why I always keep a set of binoculars on my kayak and I've always look for birds when fishing for stripers and Sand Bass when I have my boat

Very well summarized, Douglas is my home lake and the Egrets have been a great tool I have learned to use to find fish.

Yep. Here in Louisiana, when kayak fishing without electronics, we always look for egrets and herons to find where baitfish are hanging out.

That bird clip though! Lmao 💪
I’ve noticed this too. Almost like birds have polarized eyes. Pretty cool stuff.

I’ve been using the birds for years seeing as I grew up on shallow creeks in ponds with no canoe or boat access.
Exactly right birds have to fish if they want to eat. Great video thanks for sharing 🎣

Hey brother! I really appreciate that. Thanks for all the support. It means a ton!!
This is the good stuff. This seems intuitive when we don't let all of the modern overt hinking get in the way. Our ancestors understood this. Thanks for bringing it up on your channel.
Deep dive is great can’t wait till Johnny can get the smallmouth section on there
Dude that seagull story is crazy. I've never seen that or heard of it.
Blue Herons are a sign of baitfish nearby!

@@ricksonora6656 that would have been better. Anything with the heron getting back to 100%
I've got 4 words for you Tyler. "I love your videos".
I followed with what you've said Tyler an caught some nice bass because of it. Also if u see insects on surface on the water, flies dragon Flys bass will jump an eat flies or dragon flies

Great video brother. Ive always wondered about this. makes a whole lotta sense
This was a funny because I just watched 2 herings get slammed by big bass in 2 different locations . The birds did get away but they had to work for it lol.

Birds work!!! When I find another boat catching bass, I fish right there and they give me the bird.
Great info, thanks for sharing.
Really good video man!
Sup Tyler. Great video. I always looked at birds and lot of turtles as bad luck. Now I get why birds are there, do ducks or swans, geese count?. Tyvm
Hey Tyler I had a question for you. My local fishery is a man made horseshoe shaped lake. I just can’t seem to pin down a pattern on this lake, so you have any tips?
I run a garmin striker for temp and depth only.
Word I was just riding along the river looking for birds perched
Thanks but I can’t download it on iPhone because it’s not on the App Store please contact your sponsor to help with this problem
I liked this vid this is what we want
Everytime I fish around birds they steal my lures
Went to a new spot and a blue heron help me find a sunfish / bass hole
I always fish by the cranes
👍 oh yeah.
Did you do the bird voice?
I hope if I'm reincarnated I come back as an Osprey 😂
A fish is a fish
Thanks
The app is very inacurate in tidal rivers, it always tells me to use the same baits.
Pretty gutzy, throwing a top water while dive bombers are are hitting bait fish. Have you ever caught an osprey, eagle or sea gull? My friend caught an osprey & I caught a sea gull once, IT SUCKS! Just Saying😬
I've followed birds for 20yrs. Good info though.

Alway good to fish around birds except for snake birds. If they are in the fish are not around
Somebody has to say it. Pay attention to the loons or you’ll egret it.
Third
Electronics makes anyone able to catch a fish...never used them and never will...
I would rather stop wasting my time watching your videos
Go for it!
They’re too good to skip. Keep it up!
Bird's cost me tax money because they are all government spy drones. But other than that great video ;)
First
Nice
Get back to work.
So what do you do when you are fishing and the heron flies over right next to you and you still don't catch nothin??? LMAO That was me last weekend at the pond.🥲
I've had that too.
If you want to catch fish simply watch bassfishingHQ 🙏🏽
