Just installed 2 of this system at 100 & 300' feet from the base inside my home. Recharging will be interesting, due to best positions for sunshine. FYI, Ch 1 & 2 do indicate when the sensor is tripped, so I tried Ch 3 & 4 for now. Batteries in base are said to work for 2 weeks. A bit longer screws would be much better. Base station has changed, not an issue. Ability to carry the base station with you, if you leave the house, is a great option. Thanks for finding this for me! Oct '20 update - As with any PIR, a variable breeze gives you false positives, but the system has been without issue so far!
We have had this same alarm for several months now. It works so well that we just added a second alarm to the rear of our property. They are just plug and play, there is no synchronizing and there are 4 different tones to choose from. We have the solar model as well and the battery is still going strong. We have wildlife activating the alarm but we haven't had any false alarms that we know of. So far so good, definitely would recommend these alarms. If there is any change I will do an update.
@@squidwardabs5441 We literally just bought the newer model a couple of weeks ago. Th old version was still working, although one of them had started to lose its reliability a bit. friend of mine had lots of these combined with baby monitors for his security in the city. he could hear someone moving in his garage for 10 bucks from good will. Nice idea for close budget stuff.
We have a Dakota Alert system that uses a buried probe alongside the driveway that does not respond to animals or people. It only is set off by cars and trucks. The one we have is hardwired to the unit in our house and has been in service for over 15 years. They still sell the hardwired version as well as one that uses MURS radios. This gives you the advantage of having radios that can be used around your property as well. They also sell units with the motion sensor like the unit in the video. We also have a long driveway and it is great to know when someone is driving up the driveway.
I put a driveway alarm in a few weeks ago. My drive is about 60 yards long and we can’t see when someone comes up. We installed at the end of drive and it works perfect. We also installed a gate so if someone pulls up to the gate we now know it. It’s great!
My experience is these type alarms never have the full range they claim, even if you have line of sight. I had one you could program your voice to one of 4 alarms, so you could have it say "Driveway" for one channel, "Back door" for another, etc. That worked well, and I wish units allowed for that now as I thought it was a great idea.
Based on your review here, I purchased one of these in May 2020 and have used it continuously for the last 6 months. The range is very good. It works properly in detecting passing vehicles about 98% of the time. Occasionally, a vehicle will pass and the alarm does not sound. A few times it has sounded and there was nothing in view. Maybe a spider or bug over the sensor? Once, it began going off over and over and we had to shut it down for a while to get some sleep. Overall, it works well enough that we will keep it.
I have had that system for about a year. I use 4 sensors around my house, and 2 base stations. Leave the base station on my table with the 1 pointed north. The sensors on the north, south, east, and west are a visual reference as well as audible.
Great demo, simply and effective. For people who are frequently away from home, recommend motion sensing cameras that record and send instant notification messages (some with pictures) to cell phone. There are quite some products nowadays.
If you are installing a new driveway or have a gravel/dirt one it can be worth it to look for magnetic detectors to install under them for a nonvisual detection setup. Saw one a few years back that uses a bunch of D cell batteries for years of service from the transmitter. Then again if you don't have the funds to install at the time can always put in a 4-6 inch pvc pipe under the driveway to insert the sensor in later.
The IR style is worth a try because it can pickup more than automobiles, like someone walking down the drive. The magnetometer kind probably have fewer false alarms, but wouldn't catch a person on foot. A trail camera would be a great addition.
I have the Guardline brand, with 2 sensors ($100 on Amazon). Yours seems to be manufactured very similarly to mine, but missing a key feature... a pause option. Since I leave for work before everyone else is up in the morning, I hold the pause button for a few seconds (zone numbers alternately light up in a clockwise rotation). This feature keeps the unit from alarming as I am leaving for work, then returns to normal operation after 30 minutes. Overall, my wife an I are very pleased with ours (after about 3 months) and are planning on adding another sensor or two.
Ummm.... The Great Pumpkin is not a mammal so he will not set off PIR. It works on the movement of heat... you want to catch the great pumpkin you're gonna need trip wires.....😁
I have a similar unit and it picks up movement over 50’ ft it does alert to small animals like cats. It can also run 8 ch with 36 tones. The brand I picked up is Wuloo and it’s been great for the couple months I’ve had it so far up here in New England.
Headlights sweeping across the sensor as well as lightning (I just learned last night) will also set off ir sensors. I have a Netvue camera on my porch which sends notifications for these reasons. That alarm was well thought out - with 4 channels and the low-viz color!!

for the people commenting about the gardens... I've glued a wireless doorbell between two 12x12 thin pieces of plywood and left laying in garden and at the base of me bird feeder with some grass tossed on it... middle of the night when my door bell rang, got the .22lr and fixed the issue...
These are great for the unexpected arrivals of visitors, deer, possums, skunks, and birds. Lots of birds. And if the wind blows hard so does your alarm. Just saying these things to help w/ review. 😎
Would love to have one of those but with all the javelina, coyotes and bobcats we have roaming around here, that thing would be going off 24/7. Looked out the kitchen window last week and there was a bobcat sound asleep on our front porch! Made himself at home for over 2 hours.
Nice set up , I'll have to tell my brother about this one - he owns a construction business and even though he is out in the countryside he has been robbed a few times - tools , big equipment & some supplies too. He'll be pleased to hear about this set up ..he'd used the Harbour freight systems before and eventually got rid of them mostly due to whom ever it was that robbed him busted them with a hammer. I'll have him watch this video to check out how it works !! Thanks Sootch !! BTW - was that some Christmas lights I seen blinking in the window too ??? LOL
I've got a Mighty Mule magnetic sensor. The sensor is buried in the ground and I've got the transmitter secured to the base of a tree. Don't get false alarms on windy days. Battery life (9 volt) is excellent. System works great!
I just installed a similar system without the solar panel. They claim the fully charged on board battery can be expected to go 12 months between charges. The hardest part is getting the center screw tight enough so the unit doesn't move around in the wind and hold its aim but not so tight you can't swivel it to get to the mounting points. Happy with it so far
To deal with the sun causing false alarms, you could had a "hood" to the sensor. 4:19 you can see there is a red light shown in the sensor lens when triggered. For some uses this would be undesirable. The alarm tones are not the best and seems like not customizable. It would be interesting to see a tear-down of the inside. Maybe improvements could be made to the antenna or removal of the red light. It would also be nice to have a version with the solar facing another direction.
Hi Sootch, The old $15 Harbor Freight alarms work forever with a little spray paint and some silicone. Give it a try. A little DIY on the old ones makes all the difference.
If you buy four separate of these ( 4 alarms and 4 bases) will they set off all four alarms? I want to put the base for each in different areas of the house
I have had one for years, but I prefer the tube type (that has a hose that goes across the drive). It stops the false alarms (deer are very unlikely to step directly on the tube). The downsides are the pedestrians can just step over it and it is rather obvious (though you could take steps to conceal it).
I have a 4 camera video system and 5 Chamberlain audio alarms. The audio alarms are most useful, but these you showcased look much better than the Chamberlain alarms which use 4 AA's. I see these in my future... The Harbor Freight alarms work OK sitting on a window sill and looking out from inside.

You could tie a fishing line around the neck of a wine bottle and put it up high like in the crotch of a tree or on a cabin roof, rig the line so it stretches across the footpath and serves as a tripwire. When someone walks along the wine bottle falls on a rock and scares them and alerts you. Pretty clever, eh?
It definitely needs a lock nut ball joint rather than a friction one. I've got the same crap on a solar panel for a security light and the daily temperature change causes it to droop. had to super glue it in place eventually.
I've been looking at getting something similar but we have large wildlife in the area and I don't want to be woken up at 3am thinking the boogaloo has started when it's just an elk. Although I might be able to fix that with placement since we keep our gate shut now.
Do you happen to know if you can have multiple receivers/chimes say if your neighbor wanted to monitor the same sensors or for different parts of the house. I wish they had a headphone jack so I could wear headphones to bed.
