The real issue was the overconfidence our team had. They took NZ very lightly. Dhoni should have came before Pant and Pandya. Things would have ended differently...
I think Virat is fair in his assessment that the game became challenging after the first 40-45 minutes. You could say perhaps the middle order should have been stronger, but you have to give credit to NZ for there bowling and fielding.

What a stupid captain he really is. Under his captaincy, neither rcb nor India have won any major tournament. Team's most experience batsman came on 7th no. What kinda tactics is this? Rohit sharma should be the captain of india. Under rohit, MI have won 4 ipl and india have won 1 asia cup.
He's only played 2 ICC tournaments as captain. Dhoni played 10 such tournaments and won 3. Now, 3 out of 10 is good but really tells that you can't win every tournament despite having the best captain. Taking about the position when Dhoni came, I found it fair enough. After seeing the results, I could have said the same things as you. Pandya and Pant did what Dhoni would have done had he batted earlier. The main reason behind the loss is Kohli's batting, not his captaincy. Kohli has done well as a captain in the test format. That only shows that the problem isn't entirely his captaincy. Speaking about IPL records, I do believe that he should have won at least once (in 2016). One reason could be that he doesn't have good pacers in his side. Starc was in his team in 2015 and they reached the Qualifier 2 stage. MI has been successful because of the balance they have in their side. It's easy to forget the contribution of players and give entire credit to Rohit for his captaincy. Overall, I still believe that Rohit is a better captain but Virat isn't that bad either. You don't get a direct entry to the semifinals of any tournament. You need to play good cricket.

People will say that dhoni has less strike rate against spinners today . When pandya and pant was batting. Stanter was bowling and neither of them was able to score more than total of 3 runs .but had they defend him just like ms and tried to attack the seam bowler the match was within our hands .how can u expect a guy to come at number 7 with 150 + odd runs required and no proper batsman left (except jadeja) to score with 80+ strike rate..if dhoni had come earlier then he would have made the same partnership with either pant or pandya . Rohit sharma should be the captain of india. Under rohit, MI have won 4 ipl and india have won 1 asia cup.
He's only played 2 ICC tournaments as captain. Dhoni played 10 such tournaments and won 3. Now, 3 out of 10 is good but really tells that you can't win every tournament despite having the best captain. Taking about the position when Dhoni came, I found it fair enough. After seeing the results, I could have said the same things as you. Pandya and Pant did what Dhoni would have done had he batted earlier. The main reason behind the loss is Kohli's batting, not his captaincy. Kohli has done well as a captain in the test format. That only shows that the problem isn't entirely his captaincy. Speaking about IPL records, I do believe that he should have won at least once (in 2016). One reason could be that he doesn't have good pacers in his side. Starc was in his team in 2015 and they reached the Qualifier 2 stage. MI has been successful because of the balance they have in their side. It's easy to forget the contribution of players and give entire credit to Rohit for his captaincy. Overall, I still believe that Rohit is a better captain but Virat isn't that bad either. You don't get a direct entry to the semifinals of any tournament. You need to play good cricket.

I think Virat as a batsman is more effective than Virat the captain. Rohit Sharma is calm and not always aggressive and that's what Indian cricket wants. Let's face it being aggressive all the time is not working for the team. It showed in Virat Kohli's dismissal as well. He was just too aggressive and that cost him his wicket.
And India has not worked on their weakness since the champions trophy final. It showed again in world Cup semifinal. They simply concentrated on their strengths and forgot about their weakness which new Zealand exploited.
