I think there needs to be 3/4 mainstay workouts per year, CF staples like murph/heavy DT, that way there's an opportunity for someone to break a record thus creating more excitement and linear progression. Also with 3/4 events set in stone per year that gives the broadcasting and judging teams an opportunity to improve year over year.
I found this year’s Elg video rather underwhelming. It seems like he’s running out of things to talk about. The 5k part was fair enough, otherwise it’s starting to get a little old
Hiller - check the video - her shoes weren't on when "she crossed the finish line" - they were on when the sled reached the blue line but then she had to run to the finish line and you can see at least one of her shoes flip off as she starts to run - meaning it wasn't on her foot when she reached the finish line.
When you have a masters athlete who has won and been on the podium multiple times, yet has been caught too many times performing egregious no-reps, I think harsh criticism is definitely in order.
Great video. Khalipa mentioned something last year re: unknown and unknowable that I think would be interesting to explore. Have 50 workouts on a list. And maybe 1 to 3 unknown ones. And the Games is pulled from that list. I thought that was unique. You’re prepared and you really don’t know. Anyway, keep up the great work.
Only thing you got wrong was about the timer mishap on the box jump workout. One of the girls stepped forward before the beep and her chip timer started the clock for everyone. So the delay was the games team trying to reset the chip timers for everyone and begin the count down again.
Spot on. But, when racing xc you actually do start out pretty hot. Use the anaerobic system in the first 30 sec to set yourself up farther forward in the pack so you don't have to waste energy later on surging to move up, or don't get stuck behind slower people.
As I’ve said before, I get the unknown and unknowable, but sometimes they get too cute with it. It’s all about what weird stuff can we add when 98% of us all are going to be doing standard CrossFit workouts at our boxes 90+% of the time. And Gen Pop doesn’t know how hard a 200lb bag is because they’ve never lifted a 100lb bag. It sounds cool, but does it spread their message?
So stupid, call the whole thing a competition (because that’s what it is) and then go back to calling the “tests” events (because, you know, that’s what they are).
Crossfit is arguably quite a dangerous sport. Especially when we are talking about the Crossfit Games. I doubt there is one year that has gone by that at minimum 1 athlete both female and male have been injured. I suspect it is higher. But one athlete out of 40 equals 2.5% chancer of getting injured, which is pretty good odds of getting injured. I am sure Brian Friend would be happy to put the statistics together.
I watch most of his vids and yes I look forward to this video every year even though I've been doing crossfit since 2016. It'd be interesting if this gets back to him and he responds to it.

When I heard the commentators talk about drafting during the biking event, I knew Elgin was going to go to town on it.
