Excellent lesson! My wife likes to make up songs, and when she gets to the final V7, she stops and walks away just to mess w me. And I'm like "resolve it! RESOLVE!!!" 😂
That’s called spousal abuse! 😂 I remember in college our music professor told us someone did that to either Bach or Beethoven after they went to bed, and the composer was so rattled he had to get up out of bed, go to the piano, and hit that final tonic!

I never hear people talk about the functions of individual chord tones in a larger context like this! This is a great way for newcomers to learn but also for existing musician to fill the gaps left behind by too many teachers.
Your nice presentation makes sense to me, but as a total beginner trying to learn chords, my brain went a little nuts about half way through with all that I do not know. I appreciate your efforts and will continue with your channel.
I’d start off with learning your major and minor triad chords. Very simple foundational chords that will serve as building blocks for your journey. Happy learning 🙏🏻
Finally for goodness sakes FINALLY someone explains this in ENGLISH not music terms and extremely confusing analogies with 7 different variants of the same chord. Thank you for keeping in simple and literally ON POINT.

Great job brother. I will explore your entire channel. I have be searching and longing to find and understand chord progression theory. Thanks

I really appreciate the form(at) you created here. I've been over this material (40yo gigging drummer who plays keyboard+guitar for fun) but this made it much more clear and intuitive. It's interesting how we instinctively use these tactics when we speak in any language. Resolutions, tendency notes, anticipation galore, heh. Thanks for making!
Oh My Goodness after 50 years and countless music lessons and online courses, I finally understand the circle of 5ths. I just couldn't get it until now. You're a master teacher. Kudos!
Very nice vid! Also - as Bruce says --- 'emotional content'! On a serious note. This is right up there with one of the best vids I have ever seen. This is extremely useful material. Thanks very much.
I really like the way you presented this. I learned things that had always been a bit fuzzy - and you cleared away the fog. I felt I just had to subscribe. Nice job!
Great video. All I can think of: tell me I don’t know music theory at all without telling me I totally clueless. I think I need more knowledge before I can understand this. I’ll be back
Excellent video. Your teaching style is perfect for how I learn. Thank you for going step by step in detail. Peace and blessings to you and your family.
Thanks for the super thanks! I agree 100%. Understanding the real-life application of the concepts are sooooo important. Without that, it just becomes stored information that you never truly use.
I bought a guitar to learn on, and now have to figure out what strings to get. Are nylon strings easier to learn on and press? I am an old grandma just beginning. hahahaha
It depends on whether you bought a steel string folk type guitar or a real CLASSICAL guitar. If you bought a folk type guitar, stick with steel string, but use LIGHT gauge steel strings. After playing awhile, you’ll develop calluses and be more comfortable. If you bought a classical style guitar, use MEDIUM gauge CLASSICAL strings. They are easy on the fingers. Good luck and be patient. If possible, find a good teacher. I’ve played for 60 of my 80 years and continue to play about an hour or more a day!!
Hi Alain, thanks a lot for the video, I liked it very much and would ask you for a lesson about tritones. Amazing the channel! I wish you all the best!
So glad I came across your video. I love the format, and appreciate your clarity and on-screen visuals. You’re demystifying a lot of this theory for me! Subscribed. Looking forward to watching more.
Beautiful and articulate with much understanding however I consider it a cycle of fifths because the fifth note of the scale like a G resolves down to a C. The C can resolve a fifth down to an F. it’s falling fifths I know people keep arguing about is it a cycle of fourth or fifths, but if you consider the function and not just a melodic relationship but how the fifth degree of the scale Resolves downward to one it’s a 5 to 1 All my respect to your clarity and articulation and love of the subject

Hi Alan. I enjoyed and appreciated this video so much so I went looking for the Circle of Fifth, and Tritones videos you mentioned but couldn't find them. Could you please share the link as there wasn't one where you referenced. Thank you!
I am amazed of this new technique young musician are using. I am old school where we learned scales in all the keys, I learned music by learning chords not with numbers.
I'm old school, I graduated from Mel Bay miracularity to Florida State University book store in less than 2 weeks . An introduction to Musical Harmony. It takes a University to carry such a detailed book on how music immitates waves and how the Harmonic Series is the Math of these waves.😅😅😅😅😅
Love this stuff!! The resolving notes really makes sense to me now. At 10:56 is that a Bbmaj9? I see the C in there which is a 2 in Bb major scale isn’t it?
I like this a lot as I’m currently studying Autumn leaves for it’s classic aspects. But you keep using the word science and I’m wondering how the mathematical relationships within chords like the fact that a third is 3/2 the frequency of the tonic and that the fifth is 5/4 the frequency of the tonic, and the fact that on a piano all of these vibrate sympathetically especially when pedaling. How does the proportionality of the chord differences register in our minds? Along with the times spans between chords and the reminders of where we’ve come from are processed and retained in the brain. Just thinking science😊.
