What I respect most about you is that even when I find an area of disagreement, it feels like more of a point of engagement than it does disappointment. I know that you are only thinking critically about a topic and most times being more honest than most other are comfortable being. I love everything about your content because you always approach things from a place of intellect, humor and even grace. I am excited about the new direction of your media channel and I am motivated in my own space. Thank you for being here. You're a star in the real way, not hollywood. You just shine.

Hi, i'm a current Psychology student last year in my studies, I believe its a psychological pattern of Mental Development traumatic childhood experiences, like severe abuse, may be due to an impaired structure and functioning of cells in the anterior cingulate cortex. This is a part of the brain which plays an important role in the regulation of emotions and mood. R. Kelly wants to have control of these young girls and take their innocence the same way his innocence was taken as a young child. Him being involved with older women and being married are just life experiences for him to have control over, the abuser might also try to prove sexuality by initiating a lot of short-term sexual relationships with women, in the hope that fear of being homosexual will eventually disappear.. Hopefully this helps!!😉

    • @C_the_Counselor
      @C_the_Counselor 5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

@mizzmolly Hi, I believe Dominique dressing up like a boy is truly connected to the sexual abuse she has endured. Abused children are strongly motivated to want to please adults whose care they depend on. Also her dressing up like a boy and R.kelly approving it can be connected back to his psychological harm on his mental developments leading back to his childhood. I can't really speak on his daughter's case because that's a deep situation, but studies do show that Individuals who identify as transgender tend to experience higher rates of mental health issues than the general public. also, one third of abused children will eventually victimize their own children."

I hung with R.Kelly 1 time on his tour bus and he gave off such a eerie feeling. My friends and fam called me dumb for not sleeping with him and going to Chicago. But I didnt feel comfortable he kept asking me my age which made me think of aaliyah. I would say 18 and he was like say "No 18 daddy" he corrected me several times and yelled at me because I looked out the bus window. I was 2 seconds from cursing his ass out. He is intimidating so I know how people feel pressured. I seen abuse growing up so I know the red flags. I set a alarm real quick when he went to the bathroom because he dont allow phones around him even yelled at the me when I sent a text to my mom. But when that alarm went off I acted for my life and said I had a family emergency. Got off that damn bus and never talked to his ass again or listened to his music. My mom was like what he did to you. I couldn't explain it but he is so aggressive and try to hide it but intuitively I felt like he was abusive, he had a infatuation with age, and he dont want you to talk he have a way of shutting you up without him even saying anything. That moment in 2010 was when I felt and grieved for what aaliyah went through because I officially got it.

But then you start thinking; maybe it's in your head? Maybe he's having a bad day? Maybe it's you, and you *did* do something, so you need to talk about it.
Then, you're in love. You want to be around them because they weren't always like that. When you first met, he was great 7 days of the week.
By the end, he's awful 6 days of the week, but on the seventh, he's a dream. So you start waiting for that seventh day.

I happened to be sexually abused as a child. So I was extra protective of my kids. I warned my children about predators. I told my kids to be aware of adults trying to be their friends. Real adults don't want to be around nobody's kids. Only a child molester wants to be friends with kids. I hugged my kids, listened to them, and did everything possible to protect them. I even got into arguments with men who looked at my daughter's. And I didn't let no woman hug up on my son's. They had a mom. Parents step up and protect and teach your children real life skills.

Q, you are so on point, and you did it so eloquently. I was done with R Kelly and his music when he started going by the moniker "Pied Piper." Look into that story, the Pied Piper of Hamelin led children away when their parents refused to pay for his services. R Kelly calling him self the Pied Piper is sick and twisted. As a black woman I wanted to take the time to thank you for being bold enough and brave enough to publicly state that you will be giving up his music. Thank you for standing up for the black community in the myriad ways that you do, but especially this one. It's easy to voluntarily give up the things that trigger painful memories. However to give something up voluntarily that releases endorphins and triggers a happy response can be painful in itself. That you're doing this despite all of the good memories that you personally have in connection to his music, is an inspiration to me personally, and should be a catalyst for us all to do some soul searching and investigating and investment into our own moral compasses. Thank you.

Predators prey on those that aren't as happy with themselves as other people seem to think they are. All these females were as they themselves stated, "superfans". There were simple things he did and said to them to see if he could control them without any pushback. Those that didn't go along with him, he didn't keep around because they would make it difficult for him to control the others. It does not matter how old a person is if they've had past traumas and/or have a self-esteem issue it is easy for them to be manipulated. (They haven't done the work.) Now, let's remember how mentally unstable teenagers are. The frontal lobs of their brains have not completely developed. That doesn't happen until 25 years of age. This is the age of rebellion! No matter what these parents would have said or done these teenagers would have left, or ran away to be with this "celebrity". How many noticed that these women were all involved in music in some form or fashion. That is how he knew they would at the least be interested. Even if it was just for the music.

I don’t care what no one says...Drea is lying that she didn’t know about the other girls. She knew! R Kelly has a pattern that he carried through with each of the girls. They all knew about each other and accepted that he had multiple women. Treated wonderful by him while dating until once moved into the house then it all changes. Do you really think he changed that pattern for Andrea. If you asked me I think she was content there was other girls there because it meant less time spent on abusing her. She can have some short periods of relief & peace. It’s probably a survival coping mechanism but she managed to get out!!! After she got out she was in a position now and free will to help them girls. And She should of helped those girls by going public, calling police, or even mention it in those multiple tv interviews she had in which she spoke of her own abuse. She only went public about her abuse and didn’t try to help them. She knew and needs to be accountable. In my opinion she didn’t say anything because she knows it and doesn’t want to look bad in the court of public opinion. However know I see her ghetto video. I wonder if she was plainly on board the whole way with R Kelly! Hmmmm.... Either way I don’t believe Drea didn’t know!

As a psychology major; currently in grad school...I think it is a matter of him staying within the age group that he lost out on because of his particular abuse. Maybe during the ages of adolescence years is when he realized he was beyond those hormone stages and didn't quite fit in like he may have liked; considering that he was sexually abused at such a younger age. Now that he has an interest in; as you said 36 years old's; his mentality has now hiked up in years (being that he isn't exempt from aging) and those once teenage girls would now be within that same age group of 36. If that makes sense. He's stuck in a time frame that would have been essential to the overall development that he recognizes that he lost out on. At least at the pace of his peers, during his time. Those are pivotal years for all of us. No different from men coming out of prison as older men but still walking around as the 'young' men they once were when the first went to prison. Holding onto years they lost out on. Just some off the top of my head thoughts. No actual research done here ;-)

After watching the 6 part docuseries ”Surviving R.Kelly”. I want to share my thoughts on the entire documentary. In beginning, I was in a rage about some parts of the documentary, mostly the Aaliyah segment. I had felt that she is no longer present with us, and her narrative can be easily be misrepresented and false (and still till this moment my feelings remain the same). This documentary has pulled the full mirror image not just on R.Kelly, the victims and the victim’s parents, but on the general public.
Just like the victims, we too were manipulated by this single man through his music. The music felt so good in our spirit and it brought happy times along with loving times, that we became very blinded by what was really the message he was spreading in his music. Like Michael, Marvin, Prince, and Mary, Robert Kelly had a gift with his music that made us remember good moments and gave us inspiration to go through life. The sad part about it was that we really didn’t know that his music muses were at the expenses of preteen, teenage and young black women.
I was never a fan of R. Kelly (even still to this very moment I’m not). However, I did like songs that he had written for some of my favorite artists like Michael (You Are Not Alone), Ciara (Next To You and Promise remix), and Aaliyah’s first album Age Ain’t Nothing but a Number. After finding out the true meaning behind the songs and album, I can’t listen to those songs and that album anymore.
Another part that brought rage to my soul, was the victim shaming, blaming and total disrespect to the victims. I have my experiences in life and remember being afraid because I didn’t know what the outcome would be, thank god that my mother stood by me and wanted to help me get through my trauma. It is easy to blame the parents, and I can understand how it can be. However, we have to remember how we all missed the signs in his music, they also missed the signs also. Also to clarify somethings, Aaliyah’s Mother wasn’t the one who introduced Aaliyah to R.Kelly, it was her uncle; Barry Hankerson.
He was R.Kelly’s manager at the time and had ties in the music industry (He was once married to Glady Knights). He managed both Aaliyah and R.Kelly’s careers at the same time. Her mother trusted her daughter with her brother, because why would my brother put his niece in harm's way. Yes, it was naive on their part, and it very sad an unfortunate what happened to her.
Aaliyah wasn’t the first young star who dated or mess around with men older than her. (Sorry to do this) Brandy (15-16)mess with Wayna(20 something), and yes they weren’t married or anything. However, the age difference is an issue (made a post about it and Brandy fans/stans wanted to attack me). Diddy, exploited a young usher to sex during his first album (when he was mentoring him), Lil Wayne admitted that he was raped at 11 and was forced to performed sexual activities in front of Birdman and Cash money crew, Britney Spears dressing inappropriately on the cover of The Rolling Stones (wearing a silk top, and boy shorts),even the lyrics in our favorite teen star songs had hidden innuendos about pre-martial sex. Songs like: “I wanna be down”(Brandy), “With You” (Monica), “Whispers” (Usher) and etc etc. The moral of the story is that a lot of young artists had either been exploited for personal gained or economic gained.
This docu-series has brought issues that We as the black community covers up due to feeling shame and failure to the forefront. It was needed and it was a great conversation piece. It did bring a lot of emotions out of me, because of my personal experiences, but it also helps me to remember that I’m not a victim, I’m a survivor and I can go forth in my truth without shame. It also brought out a very complex question that we; the black community, needs to answer right away. Do we stop supporting him or separate the man from the art? Well for me, I never supported him, and I’m not separating the man from his art, because his art is pure evidence to the many crimes he has committed for 2 decades.
Sorry for the long post! Just wanted to get this off my chest.

But to what end? The trauma has been done. The families have been humiliated. The victims' lives have been changed forever.
I read (somewhere?) that @dreamhampton and others involved with the docuseries have already made sure that the families receive follow-up mental health services. I don't think we would gain anything more from having Iyanla yelling at them on national TV but to fulfill own need to see these parents punished, and I want no parts of that. Instead, I hope that we will see justice for those girls/young women, and that the predator who hurt all of them is made to take responsibility for his actions.

However, your review captured my imagination so deeply that I feel as though I also watched the shows myself. I feel that your ability to relay information with conviction helped to take me through the various emotions you appear to have tapped into yourself i.e. mentally, emotionally and possibly physically. This perpetrator and his yes men/women enablers are all sick, twisted, evil and all deserve to be in prison. This has also been hugely about the love of money on the yes brigade. He has been their money train, tree or whatever applies to greedy people. It feels dark and he is most likely worked under the influence of the devil (allegedly!!). Q! Aaliyah’s parents were the ones who knew better out of all them parents ! Aaliyah’s uncle, her mom’s brother was Barry Hankerson. Barry was R Kelly’s manager in the 1990’s (up until 1995) and the CEO of blackground records. Barry’s wife was Gladys Knight. Therefore Aaliyah grew up in an “industry family”. Ain’t no way Barry did not know about Aaliyah and R Kelly because back in 1992, he shouted out her name in a song saying “lil Aaliyah got it”. Barry knew what was happening but like I said Diane (the mom ) and her husband Mike (God bless the dead) pimped Aaliyah our for a check! If you go back to that infamous BET interview where they wore matching shirts, you see Aaliyah playing with a wedding band, if you look at R Kelly’s left hand, he has on a wedding band too. Guess when that interview was made ? August 1994. When did they get married ? August 1994. By that time, Aaliyah was 15, pregnant, but no one stepped up until after the marriage. Damon Dash spoke about it yesterday. He was engaged to Aaliyah towards the end of her life and she wanted to speak on R Kelly and the marriage but she was too broken for it. He wanted to bring her to counseling but she passed before he could do that. Everybody knew about the Aliyah story including her friend Jay Z who still went ahead and had a full on album and tour with R Kelly. That led to Rocafella’s label death. For the rest, Sparkle knew who he was, she was his gf too at one point, she knew the dude! Her brother Greg Landfair whose daughter is on the tape, still played guitar for him after the tape scandal and from what people have said, Reshonda (the lil girl in the tape) still is in contact with him and still lives in Chicago. So they all knew who he was to some extent but chose to turn a blind eye. I sympathize with the daughters but I can’t understand the parents

The bigger question is what stars, aside from Aaliyah, has R. Kelly produced? The parents lived in Atlanta. You can easily bump into stars that can put your daughter on. Not to mention the countless talent shows and social media platforms. Knowing what we all know and heard, you failed your daughters.

Kayla Monroe he doesn’t have to use drugs to manipulate them. Most were CHILDREN with one of the most famous Black men in the entire world. They are going to try to please him. And when they look at their lives after being with him; what are they really going back to? I think their safety and mental health is worth more than money but in a celebrity and money obsessed culture, giving up access to celebrity and money can seem like too much when “all” you have to do is just not piss him off. And women always think they can learn how to stay on the abuser’s good side.
Heck, people stay in bad situations with unemployed men that can do nothing for them, never mind star-struck young girls/women with a mega-star.

I actually don't blame him..I blame the society who let him do these things for decades without facing the consequences. This gotta stop right now before he grooms another innocent girl.

As a teen my first job was working in a 5 star hotel where my Mother was a supervisor. Most of the guests were wealthy men on business trips who always found the time to interject sexcapades! They always had young girls, high end 'escorts' young men going in and out of their rooms. They would even proposition the housekeeping staff. Mom made sure I stayed away from room service! If the walls could talk. R. Kelley is guilty of what so many men wealthy men in America is guilty of and getting away wit h it!

In the bible, Jesus came upon a man and he asked him his name; the man replied back and said it is Legion for we are many. And it says, "Be sober, be vigilant; because the devil, a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: That's exactly what R. Kelly is, he's demonic and full of different wicked spirits. The sinister spirits search out and it shows him which person who he can devour. It first starts with the Pied Piper, he's alluring and though many of us are not moved by it, the spirit is seeking out the energy in others he can pull in. There's a saying, "try the spirit by the spirit" that is what those demonic spirits inside Robert Kelly is doing.

I am going to give my stand point from a woman who has been there. We go back because depending on how long we dealt with the predator, by then we have been brainwashed to see the good in them that is how they suck us in, along with us having low self-esteem and no self love. I was 22 when it happened to me, had just had a daughter and was suffering postpartum depression, my friends warned me about him, yet by the time they did we had already started having intimate conversations that made feel like I could fix him due to his upbringing. Long story short they were all lies, it took me 6 years to see his true side, by then I wanted to leave but my mind was telling me, he isn't really like that, if I stick it out he will be the person that I saw in him. I could go on but this is just a short synopsis of why we go back. It takes a lot of self love, building yourself up and having a support system to finally leave for good.
