Us farmers market vendors don't discount at the end of the day. If I could afford to sell at a lower price, I would all day. I'm sorry but I'm working 18 hours a day to bring more nutrient dense food with me.

It might depend on the vendor and your area. I usually try to go to the local farmers market when they first open but recently took a chance and stopped by when they were getting ready to close and I had two different vendors offer me a discount.

Depends on the farmer...many only want to offer freshly picked produce so they don't want to take it home. They've already kept at home what they eat...and it can't be sold at a later date. You deserve whatever you charge but sometimes it's better to sell more at a discount than not selling it at all.

Since i live in tropical Indonesia, i grow most of my food. I bake my own sourdough bread, make my own pizza & cookies. I go so far as to put myself on financial diet aka no spend challenges to finish my food stash & save money for travels. I don’t eat imported fruits and only locally grown ones. So i gave up on all imported fresh peaches, apples etc. Whenever i wanna make peach cobbler, i used canned peach instead. It saves me time & effort to precook the fruit too. Thank you for the tips

Learn how to use "scraps" to make meal worthy items. Most people know chicken and turkey bones can be made into broth. But there are plenty of other ideas for other food scraps.
Veggie scraps (eg onion skins, carrot peelings, pepper stems, fresh herb stems, etc) can be frozen, then added to the stock pot with the chicken bones for more flavour and nutrients. Or use them to make veggie broth.
Bread ends/heals or stale bread pieces can be frozen and saved to make bread crumbs, croutons, homemade stuffing, bread pudding or stratas.
Apple peelings and cores can be made into apple cider vinegar. You can also simmer them, then strain it and use the liquid to make apple jelly. This liquid is heavy with pectin, too. You may be able to use it in combination with berries to make a other jams, without buying pectin. I have also tried making peach pit jelly.
Citrus peel can be used to flavour baking items, add flavouring to water, or made into candied peel.
These are just a few ideas. Some research may provide more ingenious ideas to use other food scraps. When you live on a tight budget, using food scraps is like finding free food to feed you family!

We save a lot of money waiting for noodles to go on a real sale. Your looking for under 1.00 and remember they used to come in 16 ounce packages now there 12 ounces. When you see the sale under 1.00 and there is no limit go the first day. We have several Kroger's in our area and when they discount them we go to all 4 stores and buy a few at each. Few as in 10 of each kind. We bring them home separate by type and store them in totes. They do not go stale and won't go bad. The other thing is rice, it's tricker, wait for the sale. buy the big bags they go straight into the freezer for one week. Then thaw them out, for a couple of days then back into the freezer. The next time you take them out separate the rice into size packages that you will need. We use zip lock bags, I store my rice in totes also. The noodles have saved us lots of cash as you can cook a small or large amount and just put butter and spices on them in the heat of summer or you use leftovers and just put them with your cooked noodles. Yes, I have 6 turkey's in the freezer, they are cheaper and have more usable meat on them than the chickens. Bird flu is coming back around, get your birds now. One turkey can last us a week of food. I am always on the hunt for the lowest prices in our area. Remember to set back as much money as you can per month, set a goal and store it away, the tax man is an ugly man who will take your house.

I agree, Sara, I’m concerned about the tariffs as well. I’ve stocked up months ahead on coffee, medications and toiletries, not to mention food😂👏I know it’s not an option for everyone, but I really find that making as much of my food from scratch as possible-especially condiments/sauces, etc. is a huge money saver for me. Being able to safely can these foods cuts my grocery bill every time I don’t have to shell out my money to a company!

Great video! I feel like many of the things you covered are things I’ve been doing for years. Since the pandemic, I have been doing pickup for my groceries. I load what I need on the app and show up to pick it up without the hassle. This works especially well during the summer as I live in an east coast summer beach town. It also helps me focus on the products that I like. And when things are on sale, I stock up. This includes meat. I am very specific about cuts of beef and the chicken I buy. I will go into the store for that and tend to stock up on those items when on sale. I have 2 freezers to keep things in. I also cook many meals at a time to freeze for ease. If I’m making a lasagna (they are small since it’s two of us) I make 5 and freeze 4. Same with soups, stews casseroles, etc.
Another tip is to become friendly with people at your farm stands during the summer. My 84 yo mother has an old family recipe for fried okra. It’s not deep fried and it’s delicious. My go to place grows it and has it set aside every week for her and honestly, I think they undercharge her because she’s always so excited when the crop comes in.
Another thing I am going to start doing is canning tomatoes. My neighbor brings large bags of tomatoes and peppers from the garden every week. The peppers I can cut up and freeze. The tomatoes need to get canned. I have never done it before so I am going to teach myself this year.
I really appreciate your your channel and look forward to more videos in the new year.

Also, consider making things “from scratch-ish,” somewhere in between from scratch and the fully pre-made product. I save a lot of money by buying plain tomato sauce and seasoning it myself instead of pasta sauce and pizza sauce. Tomatoes are too expensive here to make tomato sauce from scratch, but plain tomato sauce is often dirt-cheap.

My walmart offered 1/2 off a membership usual cost: 125 but @ black friday it was only $55 & some change. I have only done delivery three times and nearly saved my entire cost already, and I still have the entire year to go! I dont live far from the store. but my schedule is weird, so it's better for me to have the option so I"m not falling asleep at the wheel after work in the early morning hours after a long shift. I do tip, but now I dont go impulse shopping as much and the trade off is worth it to me. Maybe this is another sale ppl didnt think about, so mark your calendars for next years sale :D Or put the thought in your brain for other subscription options, if you must have them :)

Increased food prices are a problem here in Australia too - and our grocery sector is dominated by 2 retailers who have about 82% of the market, so we have much less competition. Our dear regulators have allowed this to evolve and it's scandalous but tragically inevitable. The two mirror each other's prices - butter and tissues went to the same price in both at the same time. Funny that! Aldi is an alternative but they have a limited range. Still, you can eat very well and cheaply if you shop smart. I've really focused on not wasting food and it's a constant challenge but I'm getting much better at it, and yes, every time I toss something I think of cash literally being chucked in the bin. One thing I find really helpful is to keep a pencil and paper list of all the veggies I have - seeing it written down reminds me to use up the lettuce while the cabbage will still be good next week. I cross things off and update the list as I go. I know this works for me because I've not had to deal with a bag of slimy mess for quite a while! Cheers and MERRY CHRISTMAS to everyone from Oz!

Our local farmers market is very expensive compared to store produce. I love to go there, but it is a luxury. My local grocery store has a $10 delivery fee as does Walmart now which used to be free over $35. Now they are offering store plans that cost around $70 a year to have your food delivered and if you don’t normally have your food delivered, that’s a big cost.

Many people with food sensitivities and allergies buy "convenience" foods, because it's easier. But there are 2 ways you can save. First, research for recipes that naturally do not include the problem food item and use basic simple ingredients to create inexpensive meals. Second, watch closely for sales and clearance on those convenience specialty items. I've seen plenty of "gluten free", "vegan" and "nut free" convenience foods on clearance, because less people buy them before they get close to the sell by dates. Yes, you may pay more for some items. But there are always ways to save if you try hard enough.

I have been a store brand buyer my whole life until..the last year. Walmart has drastically downgraded so many of their store-brand items. Tomato soup, chicken noodle soup, bread, chips, DRIED LIMA BEANS (what the heck??)..just to name a few that I’ve noticed of late. But I’ve noticed changes in some name brand items as well. It’s so discouraging and costly. We bought five 1-pound bags of Lima beans and we’ve cooked two bags out of that and they are horrible tasting. I can’t imagine what in the world they have done to them but it is noticed by all of my family.

Farmers Markets are a rip off here in
    Central Upstate New York.
They are far more expensive than a
grocery store and they don’t reduce
the price at the end of the day as
most of the time it’s just thrown in
the trash if they don’t take it with them
    when they leave.

I buy grains, fruits & nuts.
    I don’t buy meats & dairy
    items due to cost.
    My purchases for food
    is mostly at Aldi’s and
    the nearby Amish store.
    The Amish have superior
    quality food.
Stores like Tops & Price Gouger
here in Upstate Central New York
    I avoid like the plague.

    Aren’t those tarriffs a MAYBE

I would say the tariffs are 'probable' given the next administration. However I look at it as a chance to be more mindful with my spending PLUS I would rather be prepared (to the extent possible) for something that does not happen then not be prepared for something that does...🤷‍♀️
