My chicken pressure cooked and air fried but the temperature seemed weird to me. So i put my Potatoe and vegetable mixture in the Instantpot Duo to cook and since I was unsure of my chicken, I put it in the oven at 200 degrees til the vegetables are halfway close to done which I speculate will be close to 30 minutes til i can take them out. I watched this video just before we used the Duo Crisp for the first time, also to cook a chicken. It came out great; thanks for the very informative video.

That Ghee oil is very interesting. There is a new device out that melts a pat of butter and sprays it through an aerosol when you push the button. But it’s a very expensive tool. Buying a can of this looks like the far better choice for the home. Plus they use premium butter from grass fed cows. Definitely going on the shopping list. Hiya John. You got yourself a new subbie. Love the fact that you try to reply to as many comments as possible. I notice a lot of people don't give a darn. I love the IP......Have an 8 quart just for me and my hubby. But I've fallen in love with the air fryer......PROBLEM......Can't get it in here. I'm in Rome, Italy and have tried all the sites. Can find Ninja Foodi in Costco, UK.....but too big for my kitchen....'cos of the double lid, one of which cannot be removed. We guys here don't have big huge kitchens like in the US and Canada .Wish there was come way I can lay my hands on this IP with the air fryer !
Have you tried eBay or Amazon...I imagine you have but just thought I would ask... and I think that lid design is going to sell a lot of these units for the same reason you are looking...thanks for watching! And subbing!!!
Thank you so much for this video! I just have a question, you don’t seem to have takenvthe water out of the pot before airfying, so I’m doing the same at this very moment. Did I get this right?
Very glad to hear that!!! And I do think every cook is different and things like chicken size and starting temp have affects as long as you got it to save levels everything is good... thanks for sharing this and thanks for watching!!!
I loved this video, Jelly. I’m in the market for a Instant Pot and am considering the one with the fryer option. Got a question for you....why did you use the Instant Pot lid on the duo pot? Do I need to buy both?
If you want to brown and crisp, use a culinary torch. I get perfect skins on every part of the chicken every time. Watch several TH-cam videos on different brands, sizes and how to use. Always keep a culinary torch moving. Torches differ and have adjustment settings so take it slow and keep it moving. If nothing is happening, increase the flame and move closer. If your broiler doesn't work, get a torch. If you only have a microwave, after microwaving, crisp with a torch. I have 5 torches, from travel size to ham and turkey size. I get mine from Amazon for about $20 (small). Search *culinary torch.* Torching your food can become addictive.
I have done it many times I use a automating lighting Benzomatic torch from home depot with Mapp gas which gets hotter than regular propane...I have videos using it in my Sous Vide videos and my Big Green Egg salmon video and I agree...it is very useful...thanks and thanks for watching!
No need to tie the legs. Make an incision in the skin only on the sides of the cavity and pull each chicken cross wise leg end into the slit.. Good video and appreciated 🎐
Thanks for the broadcast its going to be Thanksgiving dinner for me since we are in l Iock down. So I'm.praying it works well. When you cancel the pressure cook do you remove the broth before you sir fry? Thank you!
Hey, John - thanks for the chicken vid - do you ever flip the bird doing the airfry portion? It always seems the breast side is cooked well when I do chicken - but the underside seems a little undercooked - that may just be me. Plus, browning would be nice all'round.... I know you're prepping this for Babydoll's soup, so it wouldn't be necessary in this case fo sho.
I usually start with something around that depending on size of chicken but I still go by look and more importantly temp... but probably a good point to start... thank you and thanks for watching!!!
I got this gadget and I've been watching your videos the past week to learn. I really enjoy your videos. Very honest, informative and entertaining. But I have one question... where do you store all your gadgets like this?
I recently bought some shelving for my garage...it is getting a little out of hand...lol... I'm glad you enjoy the videos and thank you for watching them!!!
I live in Europe (Portugal) and I will definitely get one of these, I love the idea of cooking and air frying in the same pot. One question: does this fry/sear as well? Thanks in advance!
You didn’t empty the water after you pressure cooked it and before you air fried it? Other videos say that is very necessary or it won’t air fry properly?
Hi John, I been watching a lot of your videos lately and since then acquired a duo crisp + air fryer. (Been using and familiar with a stove pressure cooker since my childhood). As you know, it does not come with a recipe book and was wondering if you have a recommendation for one. There are so many on Amazon to chose from but being that I can not page through them first hand, it makes it difficoult to choose one. I'm inclined for one that will have pictures of the recipes. But will consider what you and your subscribers recommend. Thanks and keep up your reviews and recipes. I look forward to them
I have done most of those type recipes in the Ninja Foodi and I cannot think of one that would not convert to the duo crisp...they function almost identical...there may be a reader that has a particular book that they can recommend though...thanks for watching!
@@JohnSanders Yes I noticed you've used you Ninja foodi cookbook and could work with Instant Pot, but I do not own one. So unfortunate Instant Pot does not. Thank you!
I've done it both ways and there was very little difference... it does help some and if I'm not in a hurry I do it but I'm just not sure it's worth the trouble...thanks for watching!!!
Hey John, I like to put stuffing in my chicken instead of aromatics. Do you think it makes much difference in cooking time? It does in a regular oven, so I’m wondering about it. Love your videos!
I'm sure it would but I have never cooked one like that so I'm honestly not sure about how much... glad you enjoy the videos and thank you for watching!!!
WHy wouldn't you empty the fluid from the bottom before air frying? Isn't air frying supposed to blow air all around the food? WOuld the pressure cooking of the chicken already bring it up to correct temp? I'm new - sorry for the questions.
Everything looks amazing John and as an actor I plan on doing a video impression of you at some point. My only comment is that with the air fryer, only the top of the chicken seems to be crispy so would you not consider putting the chicken on its sides during the air frying to Brown up more evenly? The whole point of air frying is to get that crispy skin right so I feel like that's a missed opportunity.
Lol...I would be honored... and you do have a point but I am usually surprised at how well the undersides are exposed to the heat and air flow... especially in this type device where the fan kinda blows it down the sides which forces it to the underside of the chicken...I will say that it does help this situation if you drain all the water out before you start the air crisp function... but with all that being said... I'm sure turning the bird over for a few minutes would be even better... can't wait to see your version of me...lol...thanks...and thanks for watching!!!
@@JohnSanders regarding the impression I want to make sure I choose the right accent. I gather you live in Georgia but is that a Georgia accent? Don't want to do Texas or Alabama or something else. Definitely one of the most endearing accents I've ever heard. Almost as twangy as a guitar LOL. As far as these cookers, I feel like I'm leaning towards the instant pot because of the sous-vide function. Also unless you know exactly how high the ninja foodi is not being able to take off the top could make storage tricky. It's a shame I have a 5 quart instant pot and looks like if I want to add air fryer sous vide ability I am going to have to junk it.
I am born and raised in georgia... and for the record I did not have good experience with the sous vide function on the Duo crisp... on the other hand though...I thought both the Instant Pot EVO duo plus and the Ninja Pro did very well with it... duo crisp took too long to heat up and did not maintain temp very well... the lid will come off under a counter but seems like it was hard to do...I think i cover that in the video I have linked below but I am away from home and can't check to be sure if it is actually doable... th-cam.com/video/tnUkUjyMb9g/w-d-xo.html
@@JohnSanders love your accent! southern accents sound always so funny to me. i could listen to you for hrs. i just got one of these insta pots for christmas and i am scared to use it. much love from michigan! i wonder if my accent sounds as funny and nice as yours. take care.
I did and I usually do, you can remove it of course but I think it helps keep the fan from drying out the skin...and I want any liquids that drips out while air frying to be in my broth...thanks for watching!
John, great video "again". But it just doesn't look very CRISPY on the computer screen. If you'd spray more butter spray, and add more spices, would that crisp it up better? THANKS
I would say it might depend on what tippy intend to do with it but both methods work really well... air roasting a small chicken is really good though... thanks for watching!!

Hi John, I’m looking for a recipe for cooking beef round roast with potatoes, carrots and onions. Do you have a video?? Thx
No...I usually stick to chuck roast but I would think you could follow this one fairly close and get similar results...
@@JohnSanders thank you!
Thank you so much for this video! I just have a question, you don’t seem to have takenvthe water out of the pot before airfying, so I’m doing the same at this very moment. Did I get this right?
*AIR* Fry on 23, *AIR JORDAN* 23, can remember that!!!
That is a good method!! Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the video. I just had a great success making my chicken tonight. The only thing was it took 24min to air-fry one side
Very glad to hear that!!! And I do think every cook is different and things like chicken size and starting temp have affects as long as you got it to save levels everything is good... thanks for sharing this and thanks for watching!!!
i’m picking mine up from Kohl’s today 😄
You will love it!! Thanks for watching!!!
That ghee spray will add a nice touch to the broth too!
I agree...I may start using it on a lot more of my recipes...thanks for watching!
You Can air fry it only if not frozen and it comes out excellent too. Just season both sides and flip halfway. NO need to air pressure it .
Thanks...and thanks for watching!
Do you use the roast feature?
@@adammetzger4182 I have plenty of times and it works really well...I used the air fry feature on this though...thanks for watching!
Search *culinary torch.*
Torching your food can become addictive.
I have done it many times I use a automating lighting Benzomatic torch from home depot with Mapp gas which gets hotter than regular propane...I have videos using it in my Sous Vide videos and my Big Green Egg salmon video and I agree...it is very useful...thanks and thanks for watching!
You can leave liquids in the pot when air frying?
No need to tie the legs. Make an incision in the skin only on the sides of the cavity and pull each chicken cross wise leg end into the slit.. Good video and appreciated 🎐
I did this tonight in my ninja foodi that my sister got me for Christmas. It was fantastic...
That is good to hear...thanks for trying my recipe and sharing your results!!!
I like the outside darker brown
I'm sure a little more time would fix that... thanks for watching!!!
Between pressure cooking and air fry you don't dump the liquid?
Thanks for the broadcast its going to be Thanksgiving dinner for me since we are in l Iock down. So I'm.praying it works well. When you cancel the pressure cook do you remove the broth before you sir fry? Thank you!
I usually do... but not always!!!
I heard you are supposed to remove the liquids before air frying
It probably does help with crisping some items...
you're right my grandfather used to take some thick tread to sew up the legs of poultry as you said it is only for presentation
It ain't totally necessary but it don't hurt... thank you for watching!!!
You left the broth in the pot while you did the air fry?
Hey, John - thanks for the chicken vid - do you ever flip the bird doing the airfry portion? It always seems the breast side is cooked well when I do chicken - but the underside seems a little undercooked - that may just be me. Plus, browning would be nice all'round.... I know you're prepping this for Babydoll's soup, so it wouldn't be necessary in this case fo sho.
I rarely do but that would not be a bad idea!! Thanks for watching!
I have been pouring the liquid out of the pot before I air fry however I am not doing that anymore. Thanks for sharing
Which machine has the higher wattage: the Foodi Deluxe or Duo Crisp?
Awesome recipe, by the way.
The foodi has it by about 200 watts...thanks...and thanks for watching!
Thanks So much 👍
Your welcome... thank you for watching!!!
Can we use the roast menu?
Jelly 007 - Would you use 23/23 with the InstantPot Pro Crisp? It gets 50° hotter, eh? You da man!
Yes it has a sauté function that sear the meat
You didn’t empty the water after you pressure cooked it and before you air fried it? Other videos say that is very necessary or it won’t air fry properly?
Do you think you could air-fry on a trivet and get good results?
Yes... just be careful on how close it puts the chicken to the element...thanks for watching!!!
@@JohnSanders thanks for the quick reply.
Hi John,
I been watching a lot of your videos lately and since then acquired a duo crisp + air fryer.
Thank you!
@@silviasandoval4595 you can find a lot of recipes online...
You can air fry with the broth still at the bottom?
Yes... it has little effect in my opinion...thanks for watching!!!
@@JohnSanders thanks 👍👍!! Awesome vids by the way
Thank you!!
So you don't have to pour off the juices before air frying?
You can and it may help with crispiness but quite honestly i found that it means very little...thanks for watching!!!
Okay this is great! Now how is the chicken soup made????
I have a video on it and I posted a link below...thanks for watching!
th-cam.com/video/-L5c8flSfoE/w-d-xo.html
no need to drain the water/broth after pressure cooking when you air fry?
I've done it both ways and there was very little difference... it does help some and if I'm not in a hurry I do it but I'm just not sure it's worth the trouble...thanks for watching!!!
Hey John, I like to put stuffing in my chicken instead of aromatics. Do you think it makes much difference in cooking time? It does in a regular oven, so I’m wondering about it. Love your videos!
I'm sure it would but I have never cooked one like that so I'm honestly not sure about how much... glad you enjoy the videos and thank you for watching!!!
Does it come with that cooling plate for the lid?
Yes... it is included...thanks for watching!!!
@@JohnSanders Thank you Sir, for this brilliant video!
WHy wouldn't you empty the fluid from the bottom before air frying? Isn't air frying supposed to blow air all around the food? WOuld the pressure cooking of the chicken already bring it up to correct temp? I'm new - sorry for the questions.
I have tried it both ways and found very little difference ...and the air frying is primarily for crisping or Browning the meat...thanks for watching!
Can this method be used to cook a small whole turkey?
Maybe and you would just need to check temp with an Instant read thermometer...but I have never saw a turkey that would fit...thanks for watching !!
And thanks for the compliment on my accent... that's not what I always get about it...lol
@@JohnSanders love your accent! southern accents sound always so funny to me. i could listen to you for hrs. i just got one of these insta pots for christmas and i am scared to use it. much love from michigan! i wonder if my accent sounds as funny and nice as yours. take care.
John, thank you for all the hard work you do on these videos. I'm hoping this Insta pot can hold a small turkey breast.
I happen to have one of those and hope to get the video posted sometime by next week...but the one I have will definitely fit...thanks for watching!
You don't remove the broth before air-frying?
I do midday of the time but you can do it without removing and it works almost as good... Thanks for watching!!!
How to get this from India ?
How would the directions change if you were cooking a frozen whole chicken?
Yes... it will need more time...thanks for watching!!!
Had you removed the liquid before air frying would it have toasted the bottom?
Maybe so... it would hurt but I don't always do it... thanks for watching!!!
Did you leave the liquid in the pot when air frying?
I did and I usually do, you can remove it of course but I think it helps keep the fan from drying out the skin...and I want any liquids that drips out while air frying to be in my broth...thanks for watching!
so you don't have to turn the chicken over to cook the bottom part?
I'm sure it wouldn't hurt but I don't normally... thanks for watching!!!
Why did you pressure cook then air fry it? Why not just air fry it for an hour?
That works too and not a bad method... times may differ but good way...thanks for watching!!!
You didn’t mention putting in water before pressure cooking it. Butthe broth would have exactly the same effect.
He did...a cup & 1/2 I'm pretty sure...
John, great video "again". But it just doesn't look very CRISPY on the computer screen. If you'd spray more butter spray, and add more spices, would that crisp it up better? THANKS
It probably wouldn't hurt but it was pretty good like that... thanks for watching!!!
Hey jelly what's better pressure cooked whole chicken then air fry, or just air fry?
I would say it might depend on what tippy intend to do with it but both methods work really well... air roasting a small chicken is really good though... thanks for watching!!
Could you do a video with barbeque chicken?
You read my mind...lol..I have one in the works...it should be ready soon...hopefully tomorrow...thanks for watching!
I had no idea ghee oil was that effective but imma add that to my alternative oil option the whole chicken does look good though.
Ghee does work very well and has a good flavor... thanks for watching!!!
