    This is exciting. I came by this by a vid suggestion. I’m an “OG” and started collecting back in the 90s when I was in elementary school, but LOVED vintage. Even at that early point I was hooked on 50s-70s baseball cards. Now, I’m a little older and have much more money. Looking forward to jumping back in the game.

Short print non rookie variations will still draw good value for top players, on card autos, maybe even jersey numbered like luka 77/.. but I'm always on the hunt for rookie basketball, autos/patch autos. Had the privilege of buying multiple 2018-19 prizm cello hobby boxes for cheap and pulled a couple luka silvers, one of which looks minty. This "Documentary Effect" that everyone is banking on is way overblown. The Last Dance only caused a surge in prices because it happened during COVID and there were no live sports. There were lots of sports docs before that did not have the same effect. Even Long Gone Summer (Sosa/Mcgwire doc) had a much smaller effect than the Last Dance, so we're already seeing that phenomenon disappear. Ergo the lesser known vintage athletes will unfortunately continue to become even lesser known.

    • @scarpfish

      Retailers have no concern for such a thing. One person cleaning out the whole stock makes them same money, which I'm told isn't that much. Also, one person buying them all ensures they are all paid for.
      Make it a pain for these businesses to sell cards, and they'll simply get out.

    The point he made of Zion could end up being Shawn Kemp is so so true!!! Born in 87, have lived in Seattle area since 89, being in the height of my card collecting as a kid in the mid/late 90’s I thought The Reign Man and The Glove GP were on their way to being 2 of the all time greats! (Don’t get me wrong, they both r legends in their own right, GP especially) but I went out and snatched up Payton and Kemp cards galore! I have Payton and Kemp cards for days!! Sucks that the value of all of their cards r nothing compared to what I thought of them. The way some people feel about Zion right now is the exact way I felt about Kemp back in the 90’s to an extent. Of course the massive hype train that exists today of learning about these guys at such a younger age makes things different to some degree but that point Gary made really hit home with me big time

      all sports cards are, is photographs of people you never met. So why would I want sports cards of people I didn’t see play the game, let alone never knew existed? The only reason why sports card SHOULD be valuable (and they’re not) is because the photographs of these players remind you of the game, or a time you saw the player on tv, etc. Sports cards are excellent as memories, not financial investments. If you think of them as financial investments, you have missed the boat. I love every card I own wherein I know the player and have watched him play the game. I have watched the NBA religiously and can say affirmatively sports card must be secondary if you want to fully enjoy their true value...

    BS companies? I sold my rookie Montana bccg 10 for $1500, bought it for $55 12 years ago. also sold my Rice(rookie) bccg 10 for $1200 purchased for $32 14 years ago. The point is don't trash the things that you don't like. Companies like bccg, isa, cta, gma etc etc... I respect the things that make people happy and buys thinks that they can afford. Guys like you need to humble down or you'll loose all your minions soon. To me, you're only pointing out the obvious and you're main objective is to give the young people and new investors some perspectives. Thank you so much for that. However, the hobby needs all types of collectors and investors. I thank you for being one of the top ambassadors and an advocates for the bobby. I just think that you should "lobby" everything the hobby entitle and not just for the stuffs that you're getting into or already owned.

On decline fast and mma ufc is still going strong and building: it’ll pass boxing and maybe a few other top sports in our lifetime. With Covid and politics taking over sports with a ball are declining too. No telling what future holds. Fighting has been around since before balls were a professional sports:That will never go away. It’s up to the promotions to raise the stock on professional fighting. And I think it’s happening. We shall see

      all sports cards are, is photographs of people you never met.

We're gonna wait till the hype dies down and the competitive players are not playing as much cos of pandemic so they're not in a rush to buy either. So yeah , you're probably making profit by selling to other resellers, I guess it's good to do it all now and not hold for long.

      I think SGC is the most accurate and consistent grading company. They charge like $10 a submission with a 2 week turnaround. Everyone I have owned is spot on. I think the only reason they are less appreciated are the slabs they use and they don't have a registry to compare collections from others.

    Excellent video love everything that you have going on very entertaining informative and right up my alley. Couple things I just wanted to add I’m curious if you’ve taken a look at magic cards MTG because hearing you talk about seeing cards is art there’s really no better example than vintage magic cards because it’s actually artists are hired to create guards and I believe it was magic popularity that drove some of the sports card boom. And one thing I wanted to add about Pokémon and I didn’t hear you say when the person asked without performance we can drive cars to go up I’m in a huge part of that is like magic there’s actually a game behind it and cars are ranked on the strength and the effectiveness in the game which plays a huge role in valuation of the card and the game itself evolves and changes sometimes those changes can increaseGot you a card. And because of the game the car to continue to be played in some sort of format even after they’ve been around for sometime I think there’s even more upside to cards like Pokémon magic because there’s so many different facets of collecting investing use the game art power of the cars strength of the card

    • @mlbvintagecardcollector505
      @mlbvintagecardcollector505 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm 36 and can maybe name a dozen players before the Montana Era. Football is the new national pastime and the game was so much different then. Baseball has been pretty much the same game since Ruth so the legends never die. That's the only flaw I see in that way of thinking. But people still pay big money for tobacco cards. I think all vintage pre-1970 stars and sp cards have huge upside and will continue to climb.
