Just saw this video. I was blessed to grow up in Independence, Missouri and started riding for fun as a kid. Started riding Saddlebreds in the mid 70's at Hidden Valley Stables. When I went to college, I found stables where I would muck out stalls to pay for lessons. In 1980, I was asked by a family to show their horse "Kool Kat" in the adult pleasure class at the American Royal! I grew up going on school field trips to see the horses and other animals at the American Royal. Did I get a ribbon/trophy? No...but did get my picture in the KC Star because the owner's daughter was the youngest exhibitor! Can't top that!!!
What's going on with the horse at 2:37? It's front legs seem to be hobbled with a chain (though the cuffs are padded with wool) but more importantly, what's up with his back feet? Is it his shoes, I'm not sure? Are they meant to walk that way? It's like it's walking on its toes. Hard to tell as it's such a brief clip.
They're a ridiculous archaic contraption meant to encourage such an artificial way of motion that's done because some idiots think the horse looks pretty going that way. Saddlebreds look beautiful with natural movement. Instead these people aim for that artificial constantly spooked appearance.
