I've been playing a cleric in the life domain and always end up trying to be a tank. The fighter has more HP and the rogue hides and/or runs away. In one in-game day, my cleric was unconscious four times. It got to point where I had to give the other characters some supplies to wake me up when I fall.

As someone who just started the Critical Role journey and was getting FED UP with the blurred out intros, THANK YOU FOR THIS. Yes, I get why they did it. Yes, I know eventually it goes away. But I'm getting through MAYBE one session a day right now. I wasn't going further without seeing it.

On the verge of it's release, I can't help but wonder how epic it would be if the team re-did this old intro to their characters and had it animated by the team making Legend of Vox Machina. Make for a wonderful extra on the box set once it releases.
I had a similar idea but i don't really think i'm the one to do it. Someone (some Critter) could replace all the art with fan art, and keep the same audio. i'd be totally onboard with that.

It's nice that there is some way to see these introductions, because after the Vox Machina animation was published, the character introductions of the 1st campaign have been blurred or removed from Critical Role's videos for copyright reasons

Because Ashley is a Dungeon Dweller herself, it leads me to wonder if her fellow Titans Alumni are as well. If so, I have a pretty good idea about what each of them might be like; based on the personalities of their TT characters. Scott Menville (the voice of Robin) - I imagine him playing as a half-elf rogue/ranger. Being a character who works outside of the law almost 24/7, the Rogue class would fit so well with Scott; plus he might look cool in a hooded cloak. As for the Ranger; considering how Robin often works with throwing weapons and staves, they seem like skills worthy of a ranger. Now, as for his race; considering his agility and reflexes, there are few other creatures in D&D that can match that other than an elf (even a half one.) Kari Wahlgren (the voice of Starfire) - I imagine her as a Genasi Fighter/Cleric. For the cleric part, Star has always been one of the gentlest members of the team. As such, her personality would mesh well with the healing skills of a cleric; even though Star doesn't know magic. But that's where the Genasi thing comes in. Because Star comes from space, it goes well with how Genasi are said to come from a higher plain of existence. Now...what TYPE of Genasi Kari would be, that's another question. Khary Peyton (the voice of Cyborg) - After hearing his noble voice through Kaldur/Aqualad on Young Justice and after remembering how much Cy loved tinkering with stuff. I imagine him as a Goliath Paladin/Artificer. On the matter of the Paladin choice, this is because Khary always does a great job depicting noble/strong characters. As for the Artificer; it's the only because that, like Cyborg, an artificer has the ability to create any tool or weapon out of anything. Finally, why would I want him to be a Goliath...well, I can't be the only one who sees Khary as a giant With Tara (the voice of Raven) - Part of me was leaning a bit towards Tiefling. But then, that would probably be considered a version of typecasting. So, I'm going with the second option; Aracockra. Now, for her class; I'm thinking she'd be a sort of Monk. Finally, Greg Cipes - Of all races, I'm torn between pairing him with a Tortle or a Tabaxi. But as for classes; no question about it, he'd make a perfect Bard. What say you to this

Three things 1: Considering, his animal shape-shifting abilities, I've always viewed Beastboy to be a good candidate for a druid class, who follows the circle of the moon. 2: Raven is a being born from an evil god/demon entity thing, with rather destructive powers that she needs to keep under wraps through balanced emotions, therefore I see Raven to be a fallen aasimar sorcerer of either wild or shadow magic 3: If you want to combine the characters of Kaldor and Cyborg for Khary's dnd character, might I recommend two alternate races? Either triton, a race that resides in the sea, a warforged, which is basically, the D&D concept of a robot, or to have a bit of fun and flavour, he can part triton, part warforged. I vote the latter.
You've mixed up the voice actors from Teen Titans with the ones from Justice League vs. Teen Titans. Kari Wahlgren only voiced Starfire in the latter. In Teen Titans, she was voiced by Hynden Walch.
I've just started watching CR after a year of friends telling me to sit down and sit through it and jesus christ. Everyone already told me that there was -someone- in particular that would make it a struggle for a while, but fucking hell. I came here because the videos are all blurred on the streams and everyone has great intros where they all go "This is basically me, I fucked but this is how things." tldr: some strength, a little weakness. I mean Pike talks about how she's literally died in her intro. Tiberius is just strength after strength after strength. Prestigious family, impressed elders with magic, youngest guild member ever, etc. The downside: bored... It really gives off a main character vibe like you would expect to see in an anime or something, especially the closing statements of how smart and dangerous he is when everyone talked nicely about strengths and flaws and god damn. I haven't even finished episode 1 yet but already from the character intro I feel like he's not going to be the sort to look at it as a group effort. Otherwise, everyone else's character sounds fucking neato.

Why is the design of those Grog artworks kind of consistent, even with different art styles? Is that another character? I thought it was Kratos for a moment, but the patterns are different?
All the art was found online, so there's no CR-specific design involved. They just picked whatever looked appropriate and as close as possible. Some of the commenters here have pointed out various sources, but idk the specifics off-hand. And official info is almost non-existent, especially since LOVM, when they blurred this intro from all the early videos. Thanks for watching. Also, ale.

There is an unintentional spoiler for Percy's Arc talking about the Briarwoods and the picture shown at 4:20 is of Dracula which is quite apt considering the Briarwoods are Vampires
To be fair I think them being Vampires was a pretty popular fan theory as I remember it back in the day, atleast thats what I thought. And it wasn't like Talisen saying they were vampires as he admitted he didn't think of an origin for them and had Matt do all of that.

Correct, the video has a lot of artwork that the cast simply found online and being new to internet broadcasting rules decided to use in their character videos to get a general vibe for the look and feeling of their characters and events...forgetting that they can't do that without permission from the copyright owners of those pieces of artwork. It's one thing to find a bunch of pictures and music online to use for your private home games which is what they had been doing for years prior to starting Critical Role, but once you start broadcasting it you are subject to copyright and need permission to use the pictures. oh they're not random. it's just not artwork made for them. they chose it to somewhat fit the character in question, and as you mention, some of it is very close to what we now think of as official. i'm assuming the artists who did make the official stuff at the very least used some of this as reference material, since the cast chose this to match their ideas of their characters. and certainly the Critters who make such great fan art have seen this too. so even tho it's not custom or official, it's definitely part of the lore now. (I hear Liam saying "canon" in the background) but i'm with you and i think this really deserves some deeper discussion (besides this comment section, which has quite a bit). maybe somebody at a con somewhere someday can ask the cast what they think. i'd love to know that too. (or i'll ask them next time i dream i know them. yeah, that happens now.)

So back in the early days of Critical Role, the first couple months or so when these character intros were still being shown, they had used artwork that they found online in place of any actual artwork of their own characters since they didn't really have the fanart to pull upon like they do now. This is fine if you're just doing it for your friends and all, but it turns out they didn't have the rights to show that artwork due to copyright issues. So until they could contact the various artists and get permission, the videos had to be blurred out. They ultimately did get permission to show the artwork, which is why episode 14 isn't blurred out, but until then the broadcasts had to have them blurred. Shortly afterwards they stopped showing the background videos all together.
general fyi: this video was made by cast members from artwork found online. they didn't have the rights; they just did what Vex'ahlia would do. so they had to blur them here until got permission (C1 E13). as interesting as the art choices are, they didn't really relate specifically to the characters, but now they're just part of CR/VM history forever. funny how that works.

I've been playing a cleric in the life domain and always end up trying to be a tank. The fighter has more HP and the rogue hides and/or runs away. In one in-game day, my cleric was unconscious four times. It got to point where I had to give the other characters some supplies to wake me up when I fall.

Easily the brains of the group, Grog is often consulted for his vast knowledge of shapes, colors, and shiny things! Also ale. In his early years, armed with his two-handed greataxe, Grog often enjoyed proving his might amongst the ranks of his family's wandering herd. But after coming upon an unsuspecting elderly gnome in the woods, he objected to the killing of such an innocent life. A creature of impulse, Grog felt only pity for this-- well, this terrified little thing. And his disobedience cost him dearly. Beaten bloody, and banished by the herd leader, his Uncle Kevdak, Grog was abandoned and left to die. Exiled from his herd, it was then that the relative of the very gnome he fought to save saved him. It was the kindness of a gnome cleric named Pike that healed Grog, bringing him back from death's edge. And they have remained close friends ever since. Most nights, Grog can be found challenging entire taverns to wrestling matches! Or accompanying Scanlan to the nearest house where you pay for lady favors. Also ale!
A first impression of Keyleth would leave you with little information on the half-elven druid. You might even think that her social awkwardness due to her sheltered upbringing is kind of sweet. Of course, it would be unwise underestimate her based on first impressions. [Thunder crack]
MARISHA: Under that unintimidating petite frame is a vicious beast waiting to be unleashed, whose natural powers have made even the fiercest of champions pee their pants, literally! Born to the Air Tribe of the Ashari people, Keyleth was raised with a deep love of nature and the elemental magics. It is her people's inherent duty to protect the delicate areas in Tal'Dorei where the four elemental planes begin to bleed with this realm. Greetings and salutations, I am Tiberius Stormwind. I hail from a town called Ty'rex, located in the heart of Draconia, born from a politically respected family. At the age of 15, I succeeded in passing the Sorcerer's Rite, showing prodigy-like control of my magic. The judges and the Draconian high council were amazed at how powerful my spells were for how long I had been training. At 20 years old, I was the youngest appointed member of the magic guild in Draconian history. For the next few years, I almost went mad from the malaise of being a guild member, as it's rather boring. However, one day I happened upon a chamber, unused for quite some time. In the room were stacks of books and maps of the surrounding cities and areas around the known world. For months, I would frequent the chamber, and learned of artifacts from legend. After a long period of research, I made a list of artifacts that caught my eye. I brought these findings to the high council and was told that all of the information in the chamber I had stumbled upon was either believed to be fiction, or unsolvable mysteries, and hence were lost forever. I found those answers to be unacceptable. A year later, I devised a ruse and managed to convince the city council to lend support in me leaving Draconia on a mission of peace and diplomacy for the surrounding kingdoms. Going from town to town and making friends and allies in and for the name of Draconia. Being a red dragonborn, I had quite the task on my hands in that respect, but it was exactly what I needed so I could explore the world and find these artifacts, as I felt the truth was out there. Some may describe me as buffoonish, but I say poppycock to all that. I am much sharper than most give me credit for. I just don't pay attention to things sometimes. I've also been known to be rather cunning, loyal, happy-go-lucky, and well, dangerous. I can't help but show my true scales every now and then. But overall, I think I'm quite friendly for a dragonborn.
Never entirely welcome in the company of elves or men, Vax'ildan learned at a young age to skip past formality, preferring instead to invite himself in your door. Along with twin sister Vex'ahlia, Vax was born by a chance encounter between elven royalty and human peasantry. Raised by their mother in their early years, the twins were eventually sent off to their father in the elven capital of Syngorn. But their cool reception among the elves there never warmed, and their time in the capital didn't last. The siblings stole away one autumn night and set out on the open road. After a few years of wandering, they eventually decided to return to their mother, and journeyed back to the lands of their youth. But instead of finding their childhood home, they returned to a pile of rubble. Their mother was gone, their home burned to ash. Pressing the townspeople for answers, they learned of the day the dragon came. With their ties all severed, Vax'ildan and his sister set out to find their fortune together in Tal'Dorei. An outsider since birth, Vax quickly learned to solve life's challenges in his own particular way, often by sidestepping them entirely. And when his knack for circumventing adversity isn't enough, the way of blades the elves schooled him in more than makes up the difference.
Like so many half-elves, Vex'ahlia has spent most of her life suffering the cool reception of a people who don't fully accept her. Born of a human mother, and an elven father who only later in life took an interest in their existence, Vex'ahlia and her twin brother, Vax'ildan, quickly realized the only people they could truly rely on in this world were each other. It was at the age of ten when the two were taken from their mother, and brought to live in Syngorn, the isolated elven city for which their father was an ambassador. He quietly took them in, but always kept an icy distance, and after too many years of disdainful looks, the pair decided to leave his indifference behind, and set out on their own. Vax took to the cities, stealing small trinkets and learning the ways of the thief, while Vex kept to the woods. She preferred the isolation. Always the keen observer, she learned to hunt and to track, to spy and to shoot. Through a series of fateful events, earned herself a companion in the form of a bear-- her own stolen Trinket-- to fight alongside her and protect her fiercely. Also, he is adorable, and gives expert massages.

A dream that changed the course of the Trickfoot family. Wilhand devoted his life to Sarenrae and pledged from then on that him and his family would live a life of service and devotion. As a child, Pike seemed to have an affinity to heal. Whether it was animals, people, or even flowers, she felt she had a purpose in making things whole that had once been broken. She studied and learned the ways to heal through divine magic. She lived a peaceful life, quiet and simple, until one day, Wilhand was captured and almost killed by a group of goliath barbarians. One of the goliaths took a stand against the murder of the innocent gnome and he himself was beaten, bloodied, and left for dead, abandoned by his herd. Wilhand went to Pike for help. She prayed and healed this barbarian as best she could, bringing him back to life. When he awoke, she discovered his name was Grog Strongjaw. After that, they were best of friends, a rather unlikely pair. Little did she know that in a few years' time Grog would soon return the favor and bring her back from the clutches of death. After being killed in battle, Pike felt angry. She wanted to be stronger so that it would never happen again. She spent four months at sea training with the men and women aboard a ship called the Broken Howl. Gripping her holy symbol in one hand, and her morningstar in the other, this time, Pike is ready.

On the verge of it's release, I can't help but wonder how epic it would be if the team re-did this old intro to their characters and had it animated by the team making Legend of Vox Machina. Make for a wonderful extra on the box set once it releases.
I had a similar idea but i don't really think i'm the one to do it. Someone (some Critter) could replace all the art with fan art, and keep the same audio. i'd be totally onboard with that.

Because Ashley is a Dungeon Dweller herself, it leads me to wonder if her fellow Titans Alumni are as well. If so, I have a pretty good idea about what each of them might be like; based on the personalities of their TT characters.
Scott Menville (the voice of Robin) - I imagine him playing as a half-elf rogue/ranger. Being a character who works outside of the law almost 24/7, the Rogue class would fit so well with Scott; plus he might look cool in a hooded cloak. As for the Ranger; considering how Robin often works with throwing weapons and staves, they seem like skills worthy of a ranger.
Now, as for his race; considering his agility and reflexes, there are few other creatures in D&D that can match that other than an elf (even a half one.)
Kari Wahlgren (the voice of Starfire) - I imagine her as a Genasi Fighter/Cleric. For the cleric part, Star has always been one of the gentlest members of the team. As such, her personality would mesh well with the healing skills of a cleric; even though Star doesn't know magic.
But that's where the Genasi thing comes in. Because Star comes from space, it goes well with how Genasi are said to come from a higher plain of existence. Now...what TYPE of Genasi Kari would be, that's another question.
Khary Peyton (the voice of Cyborg) - After hearing his noble voice through Kaldur/Aqualad on Young Justice and after remembering how much Cy loved tinkering with stuff. I imagine him as a Goliath Paladin/Artificer. On the matter of the Paladin choice, this is because Khary always does a great job depicting noble/strong characters.

this is really interesting. never thought of this, but should have. but it goes two ways: the actors as pcs, and the Titans as dnd characters.
so 1) what race/class would you give the Titans?
and 2) what race/class would you like to see the voice actors portray?
some notes: Khary, of course, is already part of Critter Nation, AND BRILLIANT!, as are Will Friedle and Wil Wheaton, and maybe others (?), and it got me thinking how many other Titans alums ought to join in, and are probably on the CR wish list. the big names are obviously Patton Oswalt and Weird Al (Ron Perlman, Ceelo, Kate Micucci, Kevin Conroy, Dwight fn Schultz, Dee Bradley Baker), as well as Tara, KMR, and the other regulars. but then again, the CR guest wishlist is theoretically infinite.

@@MemphiStig I don't know if you saw it in my comment. But in case you didn't, here is my list of races/classes for each of the core members of the Titans cast and why I would pair them this way.
Scott Menville (the voice of Robin) - I imagine him playing as a half-elf rogue/ranger. Being a character who works outside of the law almost 24/7, the Rogue class would fit so well with Scott; plus he might look cool in a hooded cloak. As for the Ranger; considering how Robin often works with throwing weapons and staves, they seem like skills worthy of a ranger. Now, as for his race; considering his agility and reflexes, there are few other creatures in D&D that can match that other than an elf (even a half one.)
Kari Wahlgren (the voice of Starfire) - I imagine her as a Genasi Fighter/Cleric. For the cleric part, Star has always been one of the gentlest members of the team. As such, her personality would mesh well with the healing skills of a cleric; even though Star doesn't know magic. But that's where the Genasi thing comes in. Because Star comes from space, it goes well with how Genasi are said to come from a higher plain of existence. Now...what TYPE of Genasi Kari would be, that's another question.
Khary Peyton (the voice of Cyborg) - After hearing his noble voice through Kaldur/Aqualad on Young Justice and after remembering how much Cy loved tinkering with stuff. Three things
1: Considering, his animal shape-shifting abilities, I've always viewed Beastboy to be a good candidate for a druid class, who follows the circle of the moon.
2: Raven is a being born from an evil god/demon entity thing, with rather destructive powers that she needs to keep under wraps through balanced emotions, therefore I see Raven to be a fallen aasimar sorcerer of either wild or shadow magic
3: If you want to combine the characters of Kaldor and Cyborg for Khary's dnd character, might I recommend two alternate races? Either triton, a race that resides in the sea, a warforged, which is basically, the D&D concept of a robot, or to have a bit of fun and flavour, he can part triton, part warforged. I vote the latter.
You've mixed up the voice actors from Teen Titans with the ones from Justice League vs. Teen Titans. Kari Wahlgren only voiced Starfire in the latter. In Teen Titans, she was voiced by Hynden Walch.

I've just started watching CR after a year of friends telling me to sit down and sit through it and jesus christ.
Everyone already told me that there was -someone- in particular that would make it a struggle for a while, but fucking hell. I came here because the videos are all blurred on the streams and everyone has great intros where they all go "This is basically me, I fucked but this is how things." tldr: some strength, a little weakness. I mean Pike talks about how she's literally died in her intro.
Tiberius is just strength after strength after strength. Prestigious family, impressed elders with magic, youngest guild member ever, etc. The downside: bored...
It really gives off a main character vibe like you would expect to see in an anime or something, especially the closing statements of how smart and dangerous he is when everyone talked nicely about strengths and flaws and god damn. I haven't even finished episode 1 yet but already from the character intro I feel like he's not going to be the sort to look at it as a group effort.
Otherwise, everyone else's character sounds fucking neato.

Why is the design of those Grog artworks kind of consistent, even with different art styles? Is that another character? I thought it was Kratos for a moment, but the patterns are different?
All the art was found online, so there's no CR-specific design involved. They just picked whatever looked appropriate and as close as possible. Some of the commenters here have pointed out various sources, but idk the specifics off-hand. And official info is almost non-existent, especially since LOVM, when they blurred this intro from all the early videos. Thanks for watching.

Yeah. Apparently CR removed it entirely from later episodes after LoVM came out, so this may be the only place to see it.

Correct, the video has a lot of artwork that the cast simply found online and being new to internet broadcasting rules decided to use in their character videos to get a general vibe for the look and feeling of their characters and events...forgetting that they can't do that without permission from the copyright owners of those pieces of artwork. It's one thing to find a bunch of pictures and music online to use for your private home games which is what they had been doing for years prior to starting Critical Role, but once you start broadcasting it you are subject to copyright and need permission to use the pictures. So they went back and blurred out the intros in the early videos until 14 when they finally got permission to use the artwork and could post an unblurred version. @@SilverScribe85

You are saying that this are just random images from the internet so how come there are some that are exactly like the final design?
oh they're not random. it's just not artwork made for them. they chose it to somewhat fit the character in question, and as you mention, some of it is very close to what we now think of as official. i'm assuming the artists who did make the official stuff at the very least used some of this as reference material, since the cast chose this to match their ideas of their characters. and certainly the Critters who make such great fan art have seen this too. so even tho it's not custom or official, it's definitely part of the lore now. (I hear Liam saying "canon" in the background) but i'm with you and i think this really deserves some deeper discussion (besides this comment section, which has quite a bit). maybe somebody at a con somewhere someday can ask the cast what they think. i'd love to know that too. (or i'll ask them next time i dream i know them. yeah, that happens now.)

What is the blurred in TH-cam
So back in the early days of Critical Role, the first couple months or so when these character intros were still being shown, they had used artwork that they found online in place of any actual artwork of their own characters since they didn't really have the fanart to pull upon like they do now. This is fine if you're just doing it for your friends and all, but it turns out they didn't have the rights to show that artwork due to copyright issues. So until they could contact the various artists and get permission, the videos had to be blurred out. They ultimately did get permission to show the artwork, which is why episode 14 isn't blurred out, but until then the broadcasts had to have them blurred. Shortly afterwards they stopped showing the background videos all together.
I am just about to watch The Final Ascent... Sigh... It's been a fun ride!
