    I just got one of these from a thrift store for $40! Couldn't believe it when I saw it. I still have to put a test roll through it, but it seems like it 'll run like a charm. Great job on this video! It's very informative and makes me want to get out and use mine. Take care.

    Absolutely in love with my EOS 3. Such a powerhouse of a camera. I got back my first roll of film taken with the EOS 3 and gasped. The quality is insane, even when using my heavily used 50 1.8.
    Great job on the video, keep it up!

    I bought the Canon EOS 3 six months ago and I really like it. It has a similar appearance to the EOS 5D, being discreet even though it is large. Vintage cameras attract a lot of attention. Having an EF mount is good for me because in Brazil we have a good supply of Canon lenses. Nikon users also have this advantage.

    I agree with this sentiment. For my first camera, I was choosing between something "cool", where I liked the object itself (like a zenit), vs something capable, where I would like it for the tool it is. And for the first camera, I chose a Canon Rebel II, which was for my price range a very capable camera.
    I still want a zenit or something for that mechanical hand-feel and the "cool" factor.

    if you think the eos 3 slaps, the eos kiss/500/rebel xs is probably the next one of these considering i bought one for $7aud before post and i feel like it gives a good entrance to film photography

      This is the exact route I took after reading your comment about 5 months ago when I picked up by X S. Been shooting with a Canon DSLR for almost 6 years so I had some pretty nice EF glass, but missed using a film camera like how I used to back in middle school, so I began researching the higher-end Canon film cameras. Called it the EOS POS cause the aged plastics and rubbers made it a sticky bastard, but man it put some beautiful photos out. Thanks again for this comment

    This is one of a few Canon 35mm EOS model that I like, this one has everything I like on the camera. It has mass, it has metal construction in film compartment, it doesn't feel like cheap plastic camera oversized for mid to high tier market which most Canon EOS film lineup are known for. I only got it fairly recent compare to my other camera and I like it just from the fact that it feel almost the same as EOS-1 lineup and feel as good in hand as other brand mid to high end film and digital camera with double control dials.
    P.S. Even their mid-high end model before it that is EOS 5 aka A2E didn't have metal construction in film compartment which all other cameras from other brands in the same tier all have. If EOS 3 didn't exist, the entire Canon lineup aside from the flagship during that decade would be the cheapest feel out of every single AF camera lineup (aside from Pentax after they released MZ lineup which are both small and feel like it cheaply made throughout the lineup from flagship to lowest end except they only use plastic film rail in their absolutely lowest end model but Canon dare to use that in all model aside from flagship, to this day I still don't understand why it's like that).

    I really need to get mine out of the bag and give it a good go. I was given one of these when my grandad passed away alomg with the eos 50e (elan) and at the time the eos 3 was waaaaay past what I'm capable of doing, so just found myself using the 50e instead. However I keep meaning to try the eos3 again now that I've learnt more about film and photography, maybe this is the weekend to get it back out.
    Great video and really lovely pics! What film where these on?

    I have a Nikon f3, and I love the whole manual analog control of it. One thing is that my fiancé doesn't know how to use it, and im thinking of getting her the Eos 3 simply for the autofocus and aperture priority. I didn't even know of it due to the hype around the film cameras with retro appeal that you mentioned. Once I found out about the eos 3 I just thought this is better then most of those popular cameras!

    Great video,
    I wholeheartedly agree with you about these cameras, the higher end Canon eos film cameras are real gems, I would also put the equivalent Nikon cameras of the same generation in here too, they are still really capable, reliable, and being able to use the same ef lenses from your dslr makes them great for hybrid analog / digital shooting.
    Good idea to grab them while they are still cheap.
    I have the Canon eos 1n and eos5 with the more basic eye control focus, they are such a joy to use! Especially the 1n 👍
    Would love the eos 3 too!

    The canon Eos 1v was the conclusion of the 1n and the prototype of the Eos 3. The 1v did not have the eye control, however I never got that wretched feature to work properly anyway. The 1v is the best camera of all time. Closely followed by the 1n and the Nikon f5. The Eos 3 is probably about number 6 behind the Minolta alpha 9 and the Nikon f6.

    • @ReinoldFZ
      @ReinoldFZ 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      In my EOS 7 the eye control is perfect, I have it calibrated for when I use eyeglasses and without them. Suddenly all of the rest of my cameras look outdated in comparison without that system : )

    What lens and films are your go to? What do you recommend for the vintage grain look and feel?

    • @Codacolor
      @Codacolor  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey Danny, great question. Most of the time I use the Tamron 28-75 f/2.8. The zoom range covers most of my bases. As far as film stock, variety is the spice of life! I'm a big fan of Fuji Pro400H, although they have stopped making it. I think almost all 35mm film will give you that nostalgic grainy look. I would recommend just experimenting. Personality I think Kodak Ultramax, Gold and Fuji Superia are great foundations to start with. Apologies for the long response. If I had more time I would have composed a shorter answer. Hope this helps!

    Hey! Loved the video! Beautiful shots! I was wondering where can I get a manual of this camera cause I found this one in my dad's attic and I wanted to start using it but I'm pretty lost with all theese functions, plus I really don't know much about photography so I could use some help. If you could recomend me some books abt taking analogic pictures I would really appreciate it :)

      Hey Guadalupe, thank you so much. I found a manual online just by googling EOS 3 manual. There are some PDFs available. I have a video titled Mistakes I Made When Learning to Shoot Film that may help you a bit. As far as book recommendations are concerned, I highly recommend you check out Brian Petersons "Understanding Exposure." It's not analog photography specific but the principles are essentially the same and I think it is an excellent starting point for anyone looking to understand photography. I hope this helps!

    The EOS3 is chance to shoot film for Canon Full Frame photographers. If you are equipped with EF mount Lenses, I mean the third party producers as well you nearly need an EOS3 or an other analog EOS Camera. The operating koncept is equal to modern digital Kameras. Te metering is excellent. You shoot film in an digital way. As Canon user you feel at home very quickly. With modern EF lenses, specaly L-lenses, designed for 20MP and above you can shoot film with a higher sharpness and resolution than never before. The film stock is the limit, not the lenses are. Canons EOS analog cameras are often called plastic bombers, cause the entry level cameras contained a lot of plastic. But I thing analog EOS Cameras in comen are underrated but have not the reputation of a Leica. Why?

  • @shelliecarlson7015
    @shelliecarlson7015 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    The EOS 3 isn't really an underrated camera. It's thought, by many, to be better than the 1V. And, it goes for $350 on up (the 1V is about $500). I was lucky enough to pick up mine, 3 days ago, for $200. I haven't run a full roll through it yet, but it's one hell-of-a camera. I don't own a 1V, but I do have a 1N, and several others.
    Underrated? Not really. Affordable? Getting to not be so.

    • @Codacolor
      @Codacolor  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      From your perspective it would seem so, however, the "many" you refer to who understand the value of the EOS 3 (as well as other more modern 35mm SLRs) are in the minority. The vast majority of film shooters are unaware of its existence and more likely to spend double that price on a camera that is more hyped.
      Underrated? To the majority of film shooters, yes. Affordable? Relative to more popular cameras, yes.

    imho, Eye control function discontinued, because it makes some damage to eyes of users. I.e. if certain rays of a camera fall constantly into Your eye - it can not be harmless in a long period.
