  • In previous episodes I found some issues with the F7G2A7WE Car Stereo so in this episode I aim to find the causes.
    I test a BUNCH of stuff and give you a bit of a review at the end.
    Thank you ATOTO for the opportunity to try out this product.
    I didn't pay for this head unit but I was not paid to make videos about it.

    Ultimately I think these were made for particular market. If I owned a high end car I wouldn't want this head unit in it but if I owned a high end car I wouldn't be looking at the base model head units.
    Audiophiles probably wont like this head unit but again audiophiles typically don't buy base model head units.
    Atoto want me to hang onto this unit for possible further testing in the future so it will probably end up in the Every van.

    Some head units provide 12V on the FM antenna (phantom power), others like Atoto F7 don't. This might be why FM/AM doesn't work for you - I had to buy a FM phantom power adapter to put in line with the FM aerial connection - this then supplies 12V to the FM aerial's active booster. Then you might get FM & AM reception - at least I did!

      It's an interesting idea for sure. Wondering why Atoto have not suggested it.

      @@GarageKeiIt doesn't seem to be widely known or documented that some OEM head units supply 12V this way to the aerial. Atoto didn't suggest this possibility to me either: spotted it after hours of reading Alfa Romeo forums and measuring my old head unit's FM RF pin on the bench (+12V on it!).

    I don't have that static noise. Mute is absolutely silence.
    Installed in a 2008 scion tc rs. Hooked directly to OEM wires

    • @GarageKei
      @GarageKei  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yea, Atoto seemed surprised that the noise exists and that it's not related to any vehicle at all.
      Perhaps it's the batch made for Japan that's the problem?.

      @@GarageKei no idea. Usually static comes from bad wire or connection points in my experience. Sometimes the speaker wires go bad, sometimes the rca just too old and brittle, sometimes the butt connect are not solid enough. Also heard static before with reverse polarity on speaker wires.
      My latest static was indeed reverse polarity to the speakers.

    I just installed mine and I hear the same noise. Like a static ticking sound. Happens more when I'm on Bluetooth. When I switch to radio its less noticeable but I can still hear it. When I'm switching from Bluetooth to radio the noise disappears briefly.

    • @GarageKei
      @GarageKei  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@3s1kill yep! That's the one!
      I recently installed an S8 and (spoiler alert) no noise AND the radio works perfectly.

      @@GarageKeiI guess I'm fortunate it that everything works for me lol. My only grip is the static noise. I went to the forums and it seems like people have this issues across all models. But, I'm glad yours was resolved.

    • @GarageKei
      @GarageKei  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I wouldn't say it was resolved. I still have the F7WE that Atoto sent me. They told me to keep it in case they want further testing done in the future.
      The noise, patchy Bluetooth reception and the Radio not working has not been fixed.
      Atoto decided that they wanted me to review the S8 as well so they sent me one of those too. I've just been really slow getting that video out.

    • @3s1kill
      @3s1kill 20 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      @@SwiftCookieI never got mine resolved. I finally got to use the radio while driving the my car "Integra Type-R" just drowns out the static. I figured I'd live with it since I don't drive it often and the stereo was cheap.
      Thank goodness the static sound doesn't increase as the volume goes up. So it's also drowned out by the music.

    Did you try noise isolators?

    • @GarageKei
      @GarageKei  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@RossmanGarage no I didnt.
      To my knowledge noise isolators as you call them are also called ground loop Isolators. Is that right?
      There was no ground loop.
      The fact that it happened on the test bench and when I put it in the buggy and took it to the park eliminated engine noise or noise induced from the environment. Any kind of noise isolator is going to remove frequencies that the unit is sending to the speakers, that includes frequencies present in the music you're trying to listen to. So you're going to lose sound quality. It might be a fix for the noise but not one I would ever use.

    So given your long experience with car audio. Do you know if using this in a VW mk6 Golf would still allow me to view the car data? As in the things like driving data, stuff beyond just music?

    • @GarageKei
      @GarageKei  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I'm not sure what the data of a VW Mk6 Golf is transmitted by.
      This only has Bluetooth (which I wouldn't bet on it working every time.) And rca in.
      You can't load apps on it either so I would say no....
      I'm not going to make another video on the F7WE but I'll probably do some shorts if new information comes up. It's important for me that I share all information about this unit.
