      Right now, the rules team is being lead by Thanos. The Admech and Dark Angels Codexes were built by someone that wants half of the factions dead. Now every faction will wonder: More of the AdMech codex builder, or more of the Necrons?

      I feel like they’re scheming. First Ad Mech getting the shitty Combat Patrol twice in a row, as well as having an overpriced army. Now DA have sword heavy units with -1 AP swords. Maybe they’re going to push out a vastly superior army to encourage people to buy a whole new army rather than buy a few new models for old armies or something?

      Amdec is just a classic example of game design not acknowledging lore or production.
      Their stats should be probably between sisters and space marines lore wise. Much closer to sisters for sure but that would be a much better points to dollar rate.
      There is not reason they should be a hoard army. There's just someone on the rules team who's really attached to the old-school idea of admec where they were pretty much just a guard regiment. The kits don't support that at all and the lore has surpassed that too having them be practically transhuman.

  • @allistransitory

    I bought the Death Watch Combat Patrol during 9 ed, and it was very good for my Salamanders. Lore-wise, since any member of DW that returns to their original chapter gets to keep their DW shoulder pauldron, I used them on my intercessors to add flavor to my army. It always sparks a conversation when they are on the board!

      @@cadettrev762it is a big mess. They kept a lot of the models from dark imperium so they decided to make the plague marines around the pox walker kit. Probably just an oversight you need to model a few extra bits with green stuff to get the full ten.
      7 does almost work but not with the combat patrol. If you don’t want poxwalkers getting three boxes of 7 gets you 21 and you can just kit bash the last guy into a deathguard chaos lord that actually looks like a deathguard and not a black legionary.

The only models I remotely even care about are the Hellblasters and the Bladeguard, but I could just buy those separately, save some money, and end up with another five Hellblasters on top of that, rather than a bunch of Intercessors and a Captain I'll never use. The sisters box really needs full kits. Scrap the partial repentia and arcos, give a full box of everything else, then throw in a squad of sacresancts or retributors to cover for the loss of the melee units.
    2 mortifiers, 5 specials, 5 jetpack girls, 10 battle sisters, a canoness, and the rhino would be significantly better to start an army with.
    The problem with doing a sisters combat patrol, though, is that in order to get around 500 points, you end up with around $300 worth of kits.
    Which is why I suspect that if we get a new one, it's going to have either an Exorcist or Paragon suits in it to bring down the discount, with my money on Paragons.

    As a newcomer i think that a good Combat Patrol should have iconic cool stuff, some infantry, classic basic characters, some vehicle etc.
    The more indivudual units the better.
    I have choosen Sororitas and it's great and made me go "whoooa", so many unique units, variety, a cool rhino, a cool big penitent engine, some basic infantry, flying units, fast girls with swords, fast fucked up arcoflagelants and cool character.
    Variety is important.
    When i saw Thousand Sons one with 20 Tzangors i thought "it looks boring af" same with Death Guard, DG should have that small helicopter thingy instead of 10 poxwalkers and it would look much much cooler

    • @Bluecho4
      @Bluecho4 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The Thousand Sons one kind of suffers from TS being basically half an army. They were the initial experiment in making mono-god legions their own army, so GW didn't want to invest too heavily. Maybe they intended to release the other half of the army later. Which they never did, until years later when they finally got their terminators and a low effort "foot" hero.
      (World Eaters better hope they get THEIR second wave. Along with Leagues of Votann. Both are depressing right now.)
      So in this vein, Thousand Sons having their Combat Patrol padded with Tzaangors is a result of just not having many options. Especially since GW likely didn't want to include more Rubric Marines, since those were already in the Start Collecting box. What else were GW going to include, Chaos Spawn?
      What really grinds my gears is the Death Guard Combat Patrol, as you said. Unlike TS, DG were the antagonists from the 8th ed starter set. They had a HUGE push, including tons of new units. They could have included a bunch of different things in the Combat Patrol, like any of their Daemon Engines, or terminators, or _the other three Plague Marines._
      Instead, All Pox Walkers All The Time.

    Necron patrol box needs this one change and it would sell like hot cakes. Simply swap out the overlord for a Skorpek lord. Thats it. I got a couple of the Tempestus Scions "Start Collecting" too.
    I do have a number of plastic commissars.
    The only "Combat Patrol" I've bought was the Deathwatch. Still sealed in my pile.
    I like Aggressors and the Characters. They're for a homebrew Chapter so I'll likely resell the DW extras.

Putrifier with PM is solid in 10 .. plague marines are strong if you back them double leader .. pox walkers are what they are .. screening and obsec.. I would buy two if I could have two typhus in an army.. combat patrol gameplay DG is solid .. deep strike typhus with pox bodyguard.. solid

    In defense of the DW patrol, I wanted the models for my marine army, and some of the models and DW upgrades for putting together a truescale DW kill team for the game Kill Team at some point in the future. And I wanted both the apothecary and that particular lieutenant, both of which were out of stonk on their own. So for me was okay value.

    Should be noted on the plus side for the Admech combat patrol, the best selling box set ever for admech was the "Talons of the Omnissiah" battleforce box. And that box was basically the combat patrol for plus a ironstrider and 5 sicarians. When that box went live, it was bought out almost immediately and ended up on ebay for like $300 at the time. But that was because everything in that box was either good or auto include and got you like 500 or some points compared to how cheap admech is now.
    Personally, I'd have the combat patrol have each unit (and the manipulus) be good and be worth 100 points each and that would at least get 400 points for the box and be generally a lot more reasonable.
    Or alternatively, bring back the Admech boarding patrol and throw in a marshal and have that be the new combat patrol.

    • @whichDude

    • @Bluecho4
      @Bluecho4 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's really frustrating that GW keeps treating AdMech like a horde army. When they SHOULD be closer to an elite army. Make the whole army more durable, make their guns hit harder, maybe hand out more substantial buffs to character models.
      Or make it so more of AdMech's mechanics work with fewer arbitrary strings attached and hoops to jump through. You know, like most other armies get. Most other armies, their special buffs _just work._
      Any that makes the army stronger, so the points values can be jacked up to match. That way new players aren't paying an arm and a leg to get into the faction.

    I'm 99% sure the Death watch box was less about what fits the lore and really just about what's cost effective without updating the upgrade sprue. Can't go too hard on Gravis as any more than 4 means adding another sprue so we end up with a box that isn't bad but for the price is just a kinda dud.

    The plague marine for people who like the death guard and using lot of poxwalkers for tactic's. This is not a bad kit but is limited for what you get for money worth . At the very least if you did buy 2 or 3 of these boxes . Like i did buying 3 CSM combat patrol for a quick 2k point army . At the veryleast Typhus you could use them with plague marine parts to make a chaos lord . Now if the Death guard plaguemarine kit for a squad come in group of 10 as for people not need to spend more money .

    I really enjoy these reviews of combat patrols, but what would be really interesting to me would be comparing them in the frame of playing combat patrol rather than for someone wanting to play full 40K. I imagine it would be difficult, because how "good" something is can be based on rolls in game and they all cost the same. Maybe no one else cares but i would find it interesting.

  • @sonicwingnut
    @sonicwingnut 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    The Vanguard Task Force is either the best or worst 10th edition combat patrol depending on where you got it - it's now an official combat patrol as rules just released in White Dwarf - while this is £85 (dear god I think GW actually reduced the price on that!) It's direct-only which makes it terrible value anyway and is basically the old Space Marine Combat patrol minus the impulsor - but what makes it worse is the actual rules include a Phobos Librarian too which needs to be bought separately.
    If you were lucky enough to get the old Combat Patrol though it's pretty decent, and it's insane value if you collected Imperium Magazine last year as even including the Librarian it cost a total of 4 issues, which was £35.96.

    Death Guard needs 10 marines in the box at minimum. Some Terminators, since it fits the style of tanky shit. The Biologist can stay. Maybe give a Lord of Virulence or Lord of Contagion instead of Typhus. A blight Hauler or drone for something different, and a bit more of the mechanical side.

    I honestly like the Guard combat patrol. It has no tanks, but most Militarum vehicles are very good as far as points per dollar. If they had tanks in that one, the usefulness of the value of those tanks would ironically go down.

    The guard box is annoying because a) cadians and b) basic guard infantry is so often used as box chaff in bundles. It does, however, give you a balanced force if you genuinely need everything and want to go to a game tomorrow. Swapping one squad of cadians for a chimera and a commissar would put it into "about right" territory imo. (Regiment agnostic and useful collection filler)
    Similarly I'd rate the nids box even lower because you are going to have termagants thrown at you by the bucket load in nid bundles. (The 40k starter set is great value despite the filler termagants because the winged prime, psychophage and 3 leapers are new to edition kits)

    I'd say the orks are terrible based on what kind of units you get. Character can't join anything, the orks boyz are fairly terrible and restricted kit with the only upside being 2x10 man. The Deff Dread is not worth the points at all and the Deffkoptas is the only saving grace for them. It may save you a lot of money for some random units, but it's all over the place, no synergy and that's all I can say about it. Only worth buying once or maybe twice, if you want a stack of boys, two terrible Deff dreads, but cheap koptas.
