We had a drive like this at work out of a very old server. It worked, kind of. Able to do seek test but thats it, and sometimes not even that. The SCSI controller detected it, and it would try to boot but only got into windows once. After that it refused to work beyond its seek test. I took the drive apart one day and i can't quite remember what it looked like inside, but werent these like enterprise versions of the caviar drives basically?😊
Wow that's a nice loud drive with the heads! No surprise it works great being a Western Digital made drive with the Compaq branding. Great physical condition too, thanks for showing it off! One of these days I will need to get myself a working one....my 9GB unit does not work sadly.
Compaq was a huge name in computing, they could put their name on whatever they wanted. In the contract they probably requested their name be put in the firmware.

WOW OEM drive detect as OEM brand. Similar my Toshiba NAS OEM Hard drive for Synology detect as Synology branded.
