Fulham are next to try and stop the Manchester City juggernaut, yet their recent form suggests we might see a rather feeble attempt from Marco Silva’s men. The Cottagers played out a drab 0-0 with Brentford last weekend to extend their league record to just one win in seven matches (D3, L3), hinting that the season's end can’t come quick enough for the mid-table side.
Adding to the hosts’ massive underdogs status is the fact they have a rotten record against Pep Guardiola’s men. Each of the last 15 meetings across any competition ended in defeat for Fulham, and another loss here would make it the longest losing run any one top-flight side has had against another ever! Though in search of positives, perhaps they can take heart from four points accumulated against City’s title rivals Arsenal in this campaign.
City were in a rampant mood again against Wolves last Saturday, with Erling Haaland’s four goals helping them on their way to a dominant 5-1 victory. That success means they are now unbeaten in 20 league games (W16, D4), with each of their past six resulting in wins - while five of those games saw them net four or more goals!
A historic fourth successive English league title remains firmly within reach for Guadiola’s men, and taking another step closer to that in emphatic fashion shouldn’t be ruled out, especially as City have scored 2+ goals in eight successive visits to this venue, establishing half-time leads in three of the last four.
Players to watch: No player has attempted more tackles in the Premier League coming into the round than Fulham midfielder João Palhinha (140). Haaland has now netted six hat-tricks for Manchester City - only seven players have managed more in Premier League history - although he’s still waiting for his first on the road.
Hot stat: Fulham (W11, D3) and Manchester City (W19, D4) are two of only three Premier League sides yet to lose when scoring first this season.
