Truckers move America. A big Thank you to all the truckers out there that have to put up with all kinds of insanity on the roads through out the entire year but specifically during the holidays.
As a Trooper I always feel Truckers and Troopers have a special relationship, we both make our living on the road. I always stop if a trucker is pulled on the side of the highway to make sure they are okay and see if they need any assistance. I also love that they know the rules of road and always move over for us when we are working on the side of the highway. I don’t think people realize that almost every aspect of our daily creature comforts involve the work of truckers, from the gas you put in your car to the food you get at the grocery store. I very rarely, and mean rarely ticket a trucker, they really have to earn it for me to scratch them. Jeff great video as always brother.
coming from a trucking family we appreciate it Jeff my dads been driving since 02 and many christmas's hes been on the road GOD BLESS all the drivers out there Merry Christmas
thank you to all the real world truckers that are out there driving for a living and delivering packages and food during the holiday season. god bless all
Only reason FedEx Freight uses doubles is because they do LTL (Less Than Truckload) if they did full loads they would be using full length trailers. So lets say you take a pup from Cincinnati, OH to Louisville, KY but that trailer might have freight going to Memphis, TN and St Louis. When they unload that trailer at Louisville, the Memphis load will go into the Memphis trailer and St. Louis into the St. Louis. FedEx Freight does not haul packages they only haul company freight so holidays are slow like Thanksgiving and Christmas. I would always be off for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years. I drove for them for five and half years. I started with them right when they bought out Watkins and called them FedEx National LTL. Then they closed National and moved everyone over to Freight. Only time you are suppose to use the trailer brake is for pre-trip inspection, I use to hang a claw hammer on it to keep it down because it would spring back up on the Volvo. So on the doubles once you have everything hooked up you would leave the Tractor Parking out and push in the Trailer Brake then I would put a claw hammer in the trailer brake handle. I would then walk down the trailers to listen for air leaks and when I got to the back of the trailer I would open each gladhand valve and make sure air was going through the whole system. Also with the trailer brake handle down it would turn on the brake lights on the trailer so you could also check them at the same time.
Jeff, to answer your question about trailer brakes. They are set and used once loaded to help you stop quickly where you wouldn't have time to engage the Jake's like if someone pulls out in front of you. There is a happy medium that it must be set too though. You want them to stop but not lock up the trailer tires and flat spot them. Hope this answers your question. Oh and be ready for your drug test after you rear ended that impala, doesn't matter if it's your fault or not but you might could have stopped in time if your trailer brakes were working properly
Lol! I'm sitting here, in a real semi, playing the audio through the radio. When that PrePass went off I pulled the curtain back thinking it was mine. Confused, because I'm a good hour from the nearest coop and parked. All daycabs are underpowered.
The snow mod should depend on what route you take, just my opinion. Ex: if you are in Oregon in January then google the weather that day and if it’s snowy then use the mod if not use normal weather.

Man that snow mod looks amazing.....SCS is dropping the ball on not making actual snow in the game a thing instead of through mods....There gonna have to do is as they explorer more parts of the US where mountains have snow on em.
Thanks USPS, UPS, FedEx, and DHL for delivering us our gifts and sacrificing your holidays for us. It is very much appreciated! Have a happy holiday everyone! Also yes, I would like more snow! Love me some of that ATS that has people driving through my home state. And tonight, I spent over an hour driving from my HQ in Elko to Winnemucca, then Tonopah, followed by Oakdale to discover each of them on my way to discover the Volvo dealership in south San Fransisco. Once I got to the dealership, it would not discover it on my map. When I attempted to go into it, the game crashed. Lmao. So I could say it was a successful trip, I mean, I got there, but... lol. I honestly did half-expect it to crash on me. Gotta love SCS and their occasionally buggy games haha
Remember to be realistic in your operation of FedEx equipment you must drive 10 to 15 MPH above the speed limit at all times regardless of the weather conditions. This will result in the fact that your FedEx truck will be in the center of or on the periphery of all major pileups on the US Interstate and State highway systems for the news media to capture on film.
Hey Jeff, forgot to mention this to you last video. For the tug test, ATS has it where all you have to do is back up to the trailer's kingpin when using advanced trailer coupling. Once you get the prompt to couple the trailer, just put it in 1st/Low and start pulling forward. You dont need to use the trailer brakes at all. Try it out if you dont belive me, but it works every time I do it!
You keep saying it’s peak season and your driver is busy. That’s a fed ex freight truck. They do not haul all those small packages your thinking. We haul pallets of stuff usually for businesses. Winter is actually our slower season because construction season and most farmers are done for the winter. Any business that would be getting stuff for Christmas would have gotten it in their warehouse months earlier. Fed ex ground and fed ex express would be really busy for sure.
Rules for jake brake, dont use in snow/ice, dont use in rain, dont use going through residential zones. Rules for large mountains, esp larger ones like donners pass, i-80 in California, once you peak the mountain, downshift one gear before going down. If you dont downshift, you risk going down to fast and burning your brakes. Nothing will ever come out good if you burn your brakes. That's why you see dirt ramps going down mountains. When turning left in a double lane turn, stay on the outside lane. I only use trailer brake for parking or the tug test, for those who dont know what tug test is, when you hook up to a new trailer, you take your parking brake off, leave the trailer brake on, and push the accelerator. It's a way to make sure the trailer is securely attached to the fifth wheel. Tug test should also be performed after every time you stop and are away from your truck or after dot break because there are idiots who will pull the fifth wheel latch when you arent around just to cause mischief. Advice for new truck drivers, find a hobby, get out of the truck as much as possible, take walks before you sleep if you are in a safe city. Dont walk in cities like east st Louis though. If you dont get out often, the walls of the semi will close in quickly. It's easy to get depressed on the road. I used to stay in a motel one night a week just to get out of the sleeper.
@@ComdrStew I'll have to try that when I get a better computer. I play it on my laptop when I miss driving. It's a good substitute, but I have to play on low graphics and it's still a little slow, but playable.
Hey Jeff, I thought that you said you would include a quick list of the mods that you use in your next ATS video? I understand that you don't want to show the one's that aren't on the steam workshop, but I was wondering when you would show us what you are using. Keep up the great content! I always love it!!
Kristopher King despite the title, I didn’t notice it was freight. Yes I was referring to the ground contractors that litter the highway with wrecked trailers every winter.
What up Jeff!! I've been playing ATS for 2 years now and subscribing to your channel for almost the same amount of time I think. But I work for one of the LTL companies as a driver supervisor. But the new trucks, especially the 2018 & 2019 VNR are extremely quiet compared to older models. Drivers love them because of the comfort. But the downside is that they are slow and have poor pulling power because the speed regulators or rev limiters. And they are all automatics for the most part. One of the biggest complaints is that the take off in first gear is bad. So whoever created the VNR mod did a really good job. But I love the vids and keep up the good work!!
I had to turn the detour slider all the way to the left. I just don't like the way the game handles them. I was going from my home base of Flagstaff, AZ to Eugene, OR. My truck got reset because of the patch. I was routed through Las Vegas. I can't remember the highway numbers, but I was exiting Vegas on 15, I think it was. I was coming up on my exit to get onto 93 (I think that's the one). All of a sudden I see a truck with the amber lights and a police car on the highway just before my exit. There was nothing else. I was puzzled. Then I go down my exit and there's the accident. There was nowhere to turn around, and I wasn't going to back all the way up. I had no idea it was a detour. It was just that truck and police car with no other indications. They should have blocked the exit off. The detour would have added hours to my run. I just drove around the accident on the dirt. lol Detours are a great idea, but they need a lot of polishing.
Holy hell man I live just outside of Bend! They did a pretty good job simulating parts of the town, but in real life, the location you dropped off in would actually be between Costco and a Hertz used car lot. And going from Portland to Bend you'd usually never go through the Dalles. That way would add about an extra hour to your trip.
True I drive to Salem and going through The Dalles takes for me would take about 2 extra hours to Portland but once you get into Portland it turns into hell during traffic
Trucks CAN drive on the inner lanes depending on where they are at. If they are not in a portion of freeway that dictates they must stay on the right (outer lane), then they can drive in any lane they want to. They can also drive on the inner lanes if the traffic in the outer lanes are going slower than they're willing to themselves. So it really just depends. Here in Oregon it's almost strictly the speed limits you'd need to pay close attention to in regards to trucking. We have laws that always require trucks have a 10mph lower speed limit than that of other vehicles on the freeways. Why in ATS it's 5mph less instead I'm not quite sure.
I believe Hawkins means at an intersection, not on a highway. Which is the preferred way to approach multi turn lanes at an intersection (taking the outside turn lane)
In your accident, I guess depending on your contractor's employer, I guess depends on who is at fault. I'm a yard driver for FedEx ground 389, and 2 yard drivers had a serious accident causing $20,000 accident and the person found at fault got a 60 day switcher (yard driver) suspension and went inside to load trailer but got a job in FedEx maintenance
Trailer brake valve is used for checking that the trailer brakes work, and also to do a tug test. Also, jerk owner operators use them to stop if pulling a trailer that isn't theirs to save their own brakes.
I started driving ScS's Volvo and of the the trucks I think it drives the best. I equipped it for heavy haul with the biggest cummings and a 18 speed transmission and the best frame, etc. Right now I'm pulling my own trailer that matches my truck and it really looks good.... The settings also seem to say put, which is cool, because none of my other trucks did, they always needed some steering adjustment, etc. I love ATS & thanks for your video, so thumbs up. //// I have my trailer breaks on the numb pad zero (key board) and I use them coming near to a stop sign or more over going down a steep hill to a stop.. I ride the trailer brakes which keeps the truck straight, then use all the breaks for final stop, to answer your question. I don't think there is a lot of difference using the trailer brakes vs all the brakes. Thumbs up on your video........
Fedex Freight Volvos have Cummins X-15 engines, and 10 speed Eaton Fuller transmissions. All of our Kenworths and Peterbilts also have the same engines and transmissions.
I think snow would be cool if it were when the mood strikes. I would be really cool to see chain control like we have to go through on the way to Lake Tahoe. Love the stripped down work truck. Thanks Jeff !
FedEx don't haul dry milk. FedEx Freight is the LTL (Less Than Truck Load) part of FedEx. FedEx Freight hauls mail. The painted bumpers are plastic. Less than truck load is all local work and FedEx Ground takes care of OTR (Over The Road). FedEx uses Cummins ISX15's from 2015-2017 and 2018-2019 have X15 at 425-450 HP. 2010 and newer have 10 speed Eaten Fuller automatic transmissions. Most FedEx Freight tractors are single axle. They do have a few tandem like yours.
I work at FedEx Freight and it is laws that regulate the size of the trailers they use for doubles and triples, FedEx wants to use bigger ones. I believe 38ft trailers instead of 32ft. I believe FedEx is moving to double 40's or 48's for the Thruway system in NY.
I drive and the only application I use the Johnny bar (aka trailer brake) for is sliding the tandems. You can also use it to see if any air is leaking out of the blue air supply line and to check and make sure your brake lights are working on your trailer when you do your pre and post trip inspections.
Trailer Brakes are jointed together with your truck brakes, so when you use the brakes on the rig, it automatically apply's the trailer brakes, and varies of how much brake is applied by how hard you press the pedal, Pickup trucks without air brakes (obviously) there is a controller inside the cab if you chose the towing package, and you can adjust how sensitive the trailer brakes (how much they will be applied) For air brakes I believe you have to manually adjust the trailer brakes by crawling underneath the trailer, I don't know if that is still the case with brand new trailers, but my uncle has a fairly new trailer and I have helped him adjust the brakes on it so I know for a fact that you have to do that with older trailers.
Hey Jeff I know this is a long shot but could you and Buggs bring back the Jeff and buggs morning show? Really miss just listening to you guys talk without gaming (if that makes sense)
When you asked about the trailer brakes, I assume you mean the trailer hand valve. It is used to test the condition of your trailer brakes, it helps hook up to a trailer with out spring brakes, and dump trucks use it to hold the trailer while they stretch the reach (trailer tounge) to make bridge distance.
Yeah this and old video but I'm here to answer your question you do use the trailer break for tug tests and for storing air in the trailer or tire I know I go to work with my dad a lot
The Volvos are always quiet. My grandpa owns a 2016 Volvo VNL 670 and when I went with him I never noticed he was using his jake brake until he told me
Mr. porkys is actually called spooky in the dalles and it’s super good it a pizza place and everyone goes there and also that moonshine factory is a wine factory! Also the bridge when entering is exactly the same as in real life! Awesome detail!!! In real life the town it’s actually an awesome place to visit! I always go in summer!! it’s almost as real as it is in the game! Love it! Anyways love watching your videos! Love to get a shoutout or if you wanna know more bout it always here! Thanks!!
The newer trucks are crazy quiet. The other driver's 2016 KW T-880 with a PACCAR engine is like driving a commuter car compared to the 2006 KW T-800 with a 15 liter Cat I drive. That and his 12 liter will out pull my 15 liter every day and both trucks run 10 speeds with the same rear end gears. My only gripe with the new truck is the collision avoidance system is tied into the cruise control, so you have to start passing 3 seconds back or the cruise will match the other truck's speed. I only use the trailer brakes to slide the trailer axles.
ya im glad our 2019 vnls dont have that crap its just stupod trying to get through chicago with it (ran a demo a week that had it). but the redesigned d-13 is amazing how fuel efficiencent it is but still great pulling power, with the 12 speed does a good job
Great video! Can you make a small video explaining how to install mods from websites. I know I to do it from the workshop, and if you already made a video of that can I get the link. Thanks keep up the great work!!!

Really like watching you drive around my state!
do you have a list of mods that you are using? I love that snow mod!
Oof
I drive and the only application I use the Johnny bar (aka trailer brake) for is sliding the tandems. You can also use it to see if any air is leaking out of the blue air supply line and to check and make sure your brake lights are working on your trailer when you do your pre and post trip inspections.
Hey Jeff! Wave's from Jacksonville Fl. Maybe you could consider trying the Mack Pinnacle CHU613,she is a beauty.
God bless all truckers
Jeff you turned left from an inside lane you never do that always turn from an outside lane especially with doubles I work for FedEx
17:53/32:33 love the video and the snow effect is awesome. Hope your day is great.
Hey Jeff I know this is a long shot but could you and Buggs bring back the Jeff and buggs morning show? Really miss just listening to you guys talk without gaming (if that makes sense)
That antenna looks too big to be cell. Cell is small vertical antennas. Microwave antennas are round, can-like antennas.
I see the new fedex and swift volvos all the time at work, there super cool looking and are just as quiet as they are in-game lol
i really like the volvo but i really want them to try and work with freightliner for mp its my favorite model
Favorite quote of the episode "well if your looking for a job, they're hiring right there at that gas station"
Only ever used the trailer brakes for tug tests and moving back tandems if they were giving me issues. NEVER ever while driving.
When you asked about the trailer brakes, I assume you mean the trailer hand valve. It is used to test the condition of your trailer brakes, it helps hook up to a trailer with out spring brakes, and dump trucks use it to hold the trailer while they stretch the reach (trailer tounge) to make bridge distance.
where do you found that winter mod?
Yeah this and old video but I'm here to answer your question you do use the trailer break for tug tests and for storing air in the trailer or tire I know I go to work with my dad a lot
Where that fuel station said now hiring that is actually a loves truck stop in Troutdale Oregon. Im from portland Oregon
Nice vid Jeff
The Volvos are always quiet. My grandpa owns a 2016 Volvo VNL 670 and when I went with him I never noticed he was using his jake brake until he told me
Nice accident jeff 😂 that was a realistic reaction. “Well lost my job today.” 💯💯💯💯
Love this content man i found one your truck sim vids over a year ago and have been watching your chanel since thanks for the entertainment Jeff
Fed/ex is hauling perishables? I thought they hauled packages and mail?
American 1337
Thank you 🙏 very much for correcting me much appreciated
I live in Portland Oregon and it’s cool to see what Oregon is in ats
Mr. porkys is actually called spooky in the dalles and it’s super good it a pizza place and everyone goes there and also that moonshine factory is a wine factory! Thanks!!
spookies pizza is amazing
Nice Journey Jeff
That snow mod👌
Great video! Can you make a small video explaining how to install mods from websites. I know I to do it from the workshop, and if you already made a video of that can I get the link. Thanks keep up the great work!!!
just to let you know Jeff when there’s two left turning lanes the truck is supposed to be in the one all the way to the right
