My uncle told me real history of Heeramandi & it depicts everything that you're telling us. Punjab had a rich culture in art, music, dance & folklore full of colors which was destroyed in Pakistan but fortunately preserved in India. In Pakistan the artist is called 'Kanjer' & the same artist is being treated with respect in India. I can assure you if Heeramandi was directed or produced in Pakistan, it would've been banned even before the release. You won't even get to see the trailer of the series. Finally with series, I hope some kind of sense will prevail in minds of majority of Pakistanis.

In Hindu religion, dance forms like Bharatnatyam and Odyssey have actually evolved from temples,it was a form of worship. So the artisans performing dance or singing classical music were always respected in the society.
Even today, in many hindu families, if a girl is learning dance from the guru, her 'Ghungroos' are secred and kept in the mandir along with the deity murtis.

There was a great contribution of Dogra Rajputs in establishing the Supremacy of Sikh Empire. In fact, Hira Singh's uncle Gulab Singh Dogra also founded the Dogra dynasty of Jammu and Kashmir. What kind of progress do you think India has and Pakistan doesn't? 70 crore indians can't read write or speak English even though indian regions were colonized by the British for 180 years. Pakistani regions were last to conquer and even then 2 out of 4 provinces of Pakistan that is KhyberPaktunkhawa and Balochistan was never under full control of British. Pashtuns and Baloch never stopped attacking british. British didn't build anything there.
68 crore Indians are poor to dirt poor ( $5 to $1 a day). The dirt poor indians 21 crore are living worse lives than 3 crore poor of Pakistan. India has the biggest slums and poverty stricken population. It is number 1 country in prostitution, STD's infections, child marriages, dowry deaths and female infanticides. It is listed among top 3 most racist and dangerous countries for women and labor class. I never understood what are Indians racists about anyway? Every USA, UK $billionaire has given bheek to poor public of India since 1952. Bill Gates just gave $400 million to hungry kids of India in 2019. All aid to pak is political and goes directly to ISI because rich billionaires know that Paks public condition is not that bad. Get out of godee media.

about reviews coming out of pakistan about the heeramandi series: I find it amusing when people showcase their knowledge by fact-checking the story in series. it is a piece of art and it isn't meant to be a literal retelling. the story is a combination of exagerrated themes like womanhood, power, resistance, and survival of the tawaifs, portrayal of the weak nawabs, deceitful nature of the british, and homage to freedom fighters, creatively knitted into 8 episodes series. after listening to muzammil, i now think its not even an exaggeration. 5/5 stars for its entertainment value and highlighting the important themes. great production

Devdasi system is quite old but devdasis were temple artists n they were paid for these devotional services by the Royal families who supported temples. During Chola period n some Thanjavur scriptures show that Devdasis were land owners who maintained temple properties n had lot of respect. All the southern classical dance forms like Bharatnatyam, Odissi, Kuchipudi are the temple dances performed to praise the God. After islamic invasion n after fall of Vijaynagar, in 16th century, temples lost Royal support n devdasis were used for wrong purpose. British tagged the devdasis as prostitutes bcoz by that time, they were actually forced into prostitution.

There were many such locations in pre-Independence India. Sonagacchi in Kolkata, Kanchanwada in Madras / Chennai, several parts of Lucknow and Aligarh, Kamathipura in Mumbai etc. You are spot on about there not being just prostitution. There were many cultural performances with musicians, dancers and more entertaining the elite. Indian movies of the 1950s celebrated these performers in songs like "Nazar Lagee Raja Toray Bungalay Par" etc. In Madras, as late as the 1970s you could bicycle or walk through Kanchanwada and listen to the practice of musicians and dancers getting ready for some event or the other. The tradition died not because it was banned, but because the musicians and the dancers got work in the growing film industry. I know Madras / Chennai better than other cities in India because I was born and grew up there, but even when I left a little more than thirty years ago, the performances took place. They had migrated to the large weekend mansions owned by the wealthy on East Coast Road and the Old Mahabalipuram Road. Perhaps, if Pakistan had a viable film industry, an adventurous filmmaker could offer an accurate depiction of what happened right at the original Heera Mandi location.

The people of Pakistan often struggle with their identity, sometimes identifying with European, Arab or Turkish cultures while other times idealizing Afghans, Persians, or Turks. Particularly in the Punjab region, there seems to be a lack of ownership of their own culture, language, dress, and other norms. The Pashtun, Baloch, and Sindhi people, on the other hand, tend to take pride in their culture and work to preserve it.

So now it's time to fight against those British who destroyed out culture, instead of hating India, Pakistan should support India in fight with western world, India and Pakistan got hatred just because of British, Both countries should start supporting each other 🇮🇳🇵🇰

Heera singh was a the son of the ambitious Dhian singh Dogra ( prime minister of Ranjit singh Raj ) Ranjit singh make Heera singh sit in his lap and called him Farzand as you mentioned. Dhian singh Dogra conspired and killed Naunihal singh ( grandson of Maharaja Ranjit singh )and his pregnant wife ( daughter of Sham singh Ataari ). Earlier the same day sandhawalia sardaars Lehna singh ( cousins of maharaja Ranjit singh ) and his nephew Ajit singh killed Ranjit Singh’s son maharaja Sher singh and later the same day they killed Dhian singh Dogra. Heera singh got the news and went to confront sandhawalia sardaars but got killed himself as well the very same day in gap of few hours. Gulab singh Dogra , uncle of Heera singh and younger brother of Dhian singh Dogra fled to Jammu with all the royal treasury and was in touch with the British. Now Sikh Raj was in chaos and the British took it over and once in full control they sold Janmu and Kashmir to Gulab singh Dogra for 75000 rupees or whatever the currency was at that time. Gulab singh was the first ruler of J& K and last was Hari singh. Hari singh Dogra son Karan singh is still alive and I guess is member of Rajya sabha.
