I share your final decision, some decent scenes but overall, no. My big gripes were : stereotypical hapless dad with hidden wisdom; they took this terribly broken family ONE HAM?; no one could clearly articulate the entire Christmas story for the kids; no adult could provide any discipline at all. Secondarily was the misrepresentation of the Bible to call Joseph and Mary poverty stricken refugees ( political message here?), and repeating the false assumption that Jesus was refused by a hotel and was born in a literal barn. So, yeah, I didn't hate it ( accompanied a friend), but wouldn't recommend it.
Amazing points that I didn't even think of! You are so right! The whole bringing only one ham I didn't even think about! Great point! And the lack of discipline. It bothered me that we never got a real explanation about where the parents were! The stereotypical dad, who by the way offers no real advice, or does anything during the movie. Great observations!
