May I ask a quick question. I have an aluminium bot and would really like to install one of these.. is there any welding involved ( I’m a terrible welder)

So what happens if there is tons of waves or boats around pushing the boat forward when trying to launch? Does that unlock it early?

    • @freshest.fishing

Hi Happypossum thanks for your response. This would really depend on a lot of varying factors.
Personally my boat has a reasonable amount of weight, and when on an angle on the ramp, being held in place only by the boat latch, it takes a reasonable amount of forward momentum from the engine to push it forwards on the trailer to release the latch. I understand the scenario you may be thinking and I regularly launch where there is lots of boat activity, wake, wind chop etc and my boat doesn’t move from any of those factors, only with thrust from the engine.
This is referring only to my boat however and every boat and trailer is going to vary slightly.

Hi Simon, no welding at all required, the kit thats designed for an aluminium boat is universal to bolt up to majority of tow eyes. I had to do a little bit of customisation to fit mine, but thats because my winch post set up is a little different to most. If you have a more common style winch post it will fit up pretty easy. I did a little write up of what I had to do to fit mine here - www.freshestfishing.com.au/fitting-the-lr-boat-latch/

    Drotto is superior.
Sorry man, the truth. Hopefully you do well and they sell.

Thanks for your comment - this isn’t my product, I’m not trying to sell them, just demonstrating how well it works for my application because I’m happy with it. Each to his own there’s lots of options out there but this one works the best for me. Happy boating!!

The majority of Australian boats are cuddy or half cabins that don't have ready walk-up access to the bow, so the Drotto lever release would be a pain in the rear end. The main advantage of the L&R is that you set the latch above waterline on the ramp and just bump up to launch or retrieve depending on latch setting. No lever or rope required.
Drotto might be superior for your conditions; L&R is here.
