I remember her crying, placing the needle back into the grooves of the record after the song ended to start it over again, feeling terrible for her and the beauty of the song. Every time I hear it, I go back to Kankakee, IL in my mind and seeing my babysitter devastated over love ending. But I am also thankful for being introduced to such a beautiful song.

I've heard this song so many times in my life but never listened. This is the first time I read the lyrics and oh boy how they smacked me in the face. Over the past couple years I've fallen hard for a girl I know. I met her through some friends when she was married. We started talking a lot more as friends while she was going through a divorce and over that time I realized I couldn't begin to think of anyone else. She is the girl of my dreams. She knew I had feelings and I hoped once things were settled we'd get the chance to get to know each other better and she'd see I'm worth keeping around. Then I found out she was already seeing someone else. It hurts like hell and I know the probability of us ever getting together is next to nothing, but I'm overjoyed at how I feel for her. I feel like those gorgeous green eyes and that infectious smile will always be etched in my mind. I don't have any regrets and would do it all over again if I had a second chance.

I heard this song some days ago, after failing my struggle with my longtime addiction and giving in to my desire. Of course I was at the time feeling like shit, but then this song came around and I felt a mix of sad relief and hope, because it first reminded me of my 10 years old long addiction and the way I miss out on feeling greater pleasure from music, but also the way there are great things out there to enjoy other than what I'm struggling with. So this song right here gives me one more reason to leave behind my misery habit, it is something I look forward to enjoy fully someday, I know how beautiful it is :')

One of my favorite Stevie Wonder songs. I remember hearing this for the first time when he played this on Saturday Night Live in the mid 80's...it touched me in a way that no other song had at that point in my life. Great memories :)
This is a gorgeous song! It's one of those songs that stay in your head for weeks and you wonder why you ever bothered listening to anything else. Until recently I had not noticed the rather sad turn-around to the first verse. The words are something like "the love that I sought could never be mine" and the chords seem to wander off downward into that all-to-familiar romantic worrying. This is, of course, remedied by the next triumphant chorus "And though you don't believe that they do", which once again sends our hearts and hopes skyward! Bravo!

As a child I'd hear this song and feel the melody of it...not really listening to the words. I knew that I liked the song. It wasn't until I've grown and experienced heartbreak that I'd listen to these words that sunk so deeply into my soul. This song makes me happy and sad at the same time! To me it's a song of HOPE. Man it hurts when love isn't reciprocated and one day we won't have to feel the pain of that anymore. I'm glad Stevie made this song because feeling "Overjoyed" at least taught me that it's great to love....just make sure you invest in someone who's going to love you back.
I love this song!! I don’t believe that it’s sad; I think that it’s about someone waiting for someone else to realize that they love them. (And that’s surprising from me who is sometimes too negative, LOL). Notice how Stevie Wonder ended this with the strumming of a harp, not a sad violin. One of my favorite Stevie Wonder songs. I remember hearing this for the first time when he played this on Saturday Night Live in the mid 80's...it touched me in a way that no other song had at that point in my life. Great memories :)
This is a gorgeous song! It's one of those songs that stay in your head for weeks and you wonder why you ever bothered listening to anything else. Until recently I had not noticed the rather sad turn-around to the first verse. The words are something like "the love that I sought could never be mine" and the chords seem to wander off downward into that all-to-familiar romantic worrying.
This is, of course, remedied by the next triumphant chorus "And though you don't believe that they do", which once again sends our hearts and hopes skyward! Bravo!

I've known this song since I was born, maybe even before, who knows, the point is that this song, no matter how many times I listen to it, never fails to amaze me and make me emotional. I don't know why, but it touches my feelings in a very special way. Stevie Wonder is the best songwriter ever, I hope to have the chance of meeting him someday
As a child I'd hear this song and feel the melody of it...not really listening to the words. I knew that I liked the song. It wasn't until I've grown and experienced heartbreak that I'd listen to these words that sunk so deeply into my soul. This song makes me happy and sad at the same time! To me it's a song of HOPE. Man it hurts when love isn't reciprocated and one day we won't have to feel the pain of that anymore. I'm glad Stevie made this song because feeling "Overjoyed" at least taught me that it's great to love....just make sure you invest in someone who's going to love you back.
I love this song!! I don’t believe that it’s sad; I think that it’s about someone waiting for someone else to realize that they love them. (And that’s surprising from me who is sometimes too negative, LOL). Notice how Stevie Wonder ended this with the strumming of a harp, not a sad violin. The harp captures the passion and the POSSIBILITY that is still there! 💪🏾❤️ God bless us all!
