I'm aging white dog mash #1 from BT in new medium charred barrels. It's been about 1 week. Already has good color, but the smell and taste aren't there yet. I'm also aging in another barrel, some moonshine I got from an old bootlegger. Best shine I've ever tasted. I'm very hyped about that one.
Great video and a good idea. I’ve been making my own white whiskey and my wife gave me a 5 gallon barrel for Christmas. I’m at the point now I have enough to fill it up so wish me luck
@@WhiskeyRow will do and if you’re down this way maybe you’d like to try a pour or two. Just started collecting so I’m sure I’ll have something you like 👍🏼
My boys got me a 20L barrel for Christmas. Filled it with 3 BIB bourbons (mixed) Evan Williams,JTS Brown, and JW Dant. Any of these 3 are already good everyday sippers. I was told in my 20L that 1 year = 8-10 years. Was gonna let them sit until next holiday time... now you have me thinking 🤔.. My plan to extend barrel life was to do a brandy (grape or apple) for a few month’s to add character to the next liquor... You got it, Scotch. Most scotches get better with age as you know... lots of age. I’m thinking a less expensive blended scotch (maybe Famous Grouse) and perhaps add just 375ml of a Smokey Islay scotch and taste the result. It would be nice to compare notes to see if anyone had tried this in their barrels. Granted 3L vs 20L is a big difference in aging time...
Someone sent me a good age translation chart from Reddit and made me shorten my aging estimate. You might check it out. Either way, let me know how it goes, that is a great juice mix!
All good? I live in Brazil and Buffalo Trace Bourbon Whiskey is sold here. I liked him a lot. The cost is low and it tastes great. Do you know if there is a better Whiskey than it in the same price range? I'm thinking about stocking up and wanted to know that beforehand.
Just did my first mini barrel test with Buffalo Trace. Ended up doing it for 6 weeks because I kept forgetting about it lol. Not bad! Putting it into a decanter now.
I'm not sure about the results but, you may be able to mix some of the fresh out of the bottle and 4 week old bourbon to bring it closer to the 2 week flavor. Might be worth a try with the Ancient Ancient age before it gets thrown to the back of the shelf. Also, I found you channel about a month ago when I started aging buffalo trace mashbill #1 "white dog" in charred oak staves in a mason jar. Its pretty good so far but I want to give it more time. Cheers.
Both are interesting ideas... the AA age is bad at this point. I might be able to mix it to blend it back to the two week version. I'll try it as I've nothing to loose at this point. Thanks!
@@WhiskeyRow Please let me know if this works, I recently finished Evan williams bib with medium toast French oak staves for a month and a larceny store pick with sugar maple staves for a month and a week and they both improved. At week 3 I was a bit scared but the extra time rounded them out.
Haha. I am doing the same with spirals and the mashbill 1. Be interested in how yours turns out. I’m only a few days in so far but the color changed within a day!
That was an interesting project. I'm curious though. Just because you didn't like the other creations doesn't mean other ppl wouldn't like them, right? wow, that is great 👍 my grandfather would cut these in half and plant flowers in them 🌸 Nice review.

Not sure if it's better, but Benchmark Bonded is good around same price. Old Fitzgerald has a low priced bourbon that I like.
So i filled a new charred oak 5 litter barrel with makers mark. How long do i let it sit without wrecking it

OGD 114, Benchmark full proof and Rare breed would be great follow ups to experiment with
BM FP would be good
Thanks so much for doing this, I’ve been wondering about these barrels, now we know. Still love that outro song
Glad you liked it and the music! I found the song in the TH-cam copyright free list and it fit this IMO
Have fun this looks like a fun trial
Ive had Buffalo Trace in a mini barrel since Jan 9, 2021. Was planning on waiting 8 weeks but may have to try it tonight now.
How did it come out? If you have a pour, please let's us know
@@WhiskeyRow I’ll let you know on March 9th. But now I’m kind of worried.
@@WhiskeyRow I want to try your Buffalo trace version. I aged my barrel with a Cabernet Sauvignon for 30 days prior to filling it with Buffalo trace.
@@christophergrisham5832 sure thing, send me a photo of your ID to confirm age and address shippability

Try a Benchmark Full Proof. I opened a new bottle and it tasted young. I am thinking of getting an oak spiral and see what happens.
Old Forrester 1920 aged 4 weeks!! Would love to try some of these!
Love old forester 1920 . Not sure you can make it better but worth a try
Nice idea... maybe for only 2 weeks. I'd cry if I messed that up though
Maybe OGD 114
Trying a benchmark full proof right now, will give it a go at 2 weeks to see if that’s enough.
How'd it go?
???
Update?
where he go!!

I am mixing rare breed and Russels single barrel currently! Ill let you know how it ends up.
What a fun experience. The origin of your "craft" brand? $75 retail at a store near you. $300 secondary.
The way the AA Age turned out, I'd have to pay you to drink it... going to keep my day job for now lol
If you get yourself a still you can redistill the bourbons that dont work for you. But that is a whole new ball game.

Very interesting! I've heard those types of barrels need to be filled more or less all the time (not with water), or there are problems.
Yeah, once used if you let them dry back out I doubt you could get them sealed again easily
Wooo I've been waiting for this!
Me too
Thanks for sharing the results!
I think using some new make like white dog will give some interesting results.
Gift it!
