Class - absolute Class. an Englishman abroad. He was very much a journalist but still enjoyed the finer things in life too. His rhythm of his speech is fascinating. Could listen to him all day. What a life. What a loss.
Alan Whicker the most travelled man in the world 🌎 loved all his shows, and that beautiful piece of music and this brilliant show was always shown on Mondays at 9pm.
Programs like this shaped my adult life. I was born in 1951, the very best decades in UK and USA. I've traveled to 40 countries and lived in 7. Greetings from Bangkok, Thailand. I have deep gratitude to the BBC programs in the fifties and Sixties .
Alan lived in Jersey and my in-laws who lived there also, used to bump in to him in restaurants. He always spoke and was a real gentleman. This brings back memories of his tv shows.
Really loved Wickers world and back in the 90s I met him whilst I was working at the Sheraton Park Tower hotel. What a lovely man, we sat for quite a while chatting about his life.
Hi Mark. I'm a journalist writing a feature about Alan for the Daily Express. Would you be interested in sharing your experience of meeting him? If so, please let me know.
Electronic Media was far more sophisticated in terms of aired program quality and contents during the 60s and 70s. Journalism and broadcasting had much higher professional standards.
Archiebald Arsledon BS!!! you brits only gave us the platform to flourish, the Hong Kong largely people made HK, not you brits, China was the most properous nation on earth for more than 2000 years!! theres nothing you can do thats better.
This is untrue, HDsharp. I lived and worked in HK for 12 years. The whole success of this world city was based on the mutual acceptance of the local Chinese and us Brits. Notice I don't call it mutual respect. Nevertheless, the British did have the greatest respect and affection for the Hong Kong Chinese. The fact that the Chinese were very easy and enjoyable to work with suggests that the locals didn't mind us either. We got along very well and often laughed at the same jokes - a useful test. I miss HK and keep in touch with Chinese friends from 30 years ago.

You are still missed Alan
I bumped into Alan at Fenwicks one night and then Neptune the next. A man of supreme taste.
This guy is a hero to me, Part of the fabric of my life.
Great, was stationed there for 2 yrs 1976-78. Going back in November.
A wonderful documentary. Thanks!
They don't make them like Alan any more. Interesting shirt / tie combination! :-)
Mr Whicker, I hope you will be back to Hong Kong after another 2009 which is in 2029.
Excellent film
Very nice! I've been uploading a lot of my Hong Kong adventures recently and I agree with the sentiment; HK is an awesome place to live.
phacade crowded
0:17 - Alan Whicker, the most suave cat on TV!
He was a dapper gent.
Fascinating!!

Interesting show.
Good one , loved it .
Always wondered where the inspiration for Monty Python’s Whicker World came from.
What a tragedy what’s happening in HK right now.
great character
Top dude that Alan.
Total~difference 💚💚💚💗
GOOD.
The cliches .. trip off the tongue .. ( Monty Python , Whickers world ! ) ... He - He .... DAVE™🛑
Makes you realise what rubbish we have to watch now
A proper journalist, not some stand up on holiday
For sure we do miss that easy sense of security and freedom in HK before it was taken over by the "Red Barons".
And to think that his reaction to Micheal Palins 'Around the World in Eighty Days' was.... it's 'Eight hours of ego'! LMFAO.
the brits also grew fat from hong kong, the chinese paid their dues but they were never given the respect owed to them by the brits.
+HDsharp , and who are you to have so much in depth knowledge ?
Archiebald Arsledon
moron, whats that suppose to mean?
+HDsharp You are the moron, I asked a straight enough question. Britain made Hong Kong the Pearl of China's Crown.
