Yul Brynner sang a version of this years ago. My father, a Murmansk Run Mariner, really like that. He would have liked this too . . . .

I remember as a child my parents had this album. Didn't think to much about it but now as a adult I love it!

oh this is so shockingly beautiful that just before, all of a sudden i found myself inside a tide of tears from deep within. Thank you!

Brilliant, his voice stayed unusually unaffected by old age!

Just magnificent and even more mellow than on his Songs of A Russian Gypsy album when his hair was still jet black.

Oops. I typed the wrong age in my previous comment. Bikel is currently 88. Your video was a couple of months before his 86th birthday.
Thanks for your excellent videography and for sharing this with the world. :-)

This is wonderful. Always a great talent, but remarkable to be nearly 88 at the time of this recording and still singing and playing guitar like a young man. BTW, the name of this song is Бирюзовые колечики and thanks to Vaslev for the translation. Thanks to eileenkjb for info on accompanists. See PjotrLeschenko's posts of Bikel performing this and ten other Russian songs. Search as: Теодор Бикель Theodore Bikel

    @Nicknallister Rough but singable
Golden rings and turquoise rings were rolling
Down the meadow and out of sight
Gone, like you, your lovely shoulders
Disappeared in the dark of the night
Then the rings fell in the far green meadow
And scattered like the love we once had known
No regrets and no more wishes
Life is sad now that I’m all alone
Sing, guitar, and cry away my sorrows
Take away the sadness my heart bears
No Regrets and no more wishes, love is gone
    And I just don’t care

Wow- love this song! Wish I knew what the lyrics mean.

Знаю почти всего Теодор наизусть. Другое исполнение колечек, без видео, более заводной с самого начала.

@eileenkjb hi YES more Bikel songs! and i learned to play the balalaika to his LPs so i would attempt to play at the Russian Clubs in NYC and i moved there to just do this- play and play the balalaika just how his balalaika player "Sahsa Polinoff" played on his Russian recordings
