  • This version of Rabbi Shlomo Carlebach himself singing the famous "Moshe V'Aharon" (AKA "Mizmor Ledovid") has become popular at contemporary cantorial concerts - especially the version sung by Shlomo Simcha and subsequently Chazzan Yitzchak Meir Helfgot - which are amazingly almost exact replicas of this version here, note for note.
Many remain unaware that Rabbi Shlomo Carlebach himself was the first to sing this complicated and difficult cantorial version in 1991 at a concert in Brooklyn College only 3 years before his untimely passing. This concert was unique as it was produced by the famous Sheya Mendlowitz and the music was arranged by the magical Moshe Laufer - both considered more mainstream in pop Jewish music and not historically typical for a traditional Shlomo Carlebach concert.
This cantorial version differs in many ways from the way Shlomo sang the same composition within his broader Friday night prayer Nussach / Liturgy of the Kabbalat Shabbat service.

Thank you for clarifying that this concert at Brookly College was in 1984 and not 1991.

@@dr.natanophir6813 That is where I took this track from. This "Moshe V'Aharon" is approximately 5 or 6 minutes into the opening overture. This is the version Shlomo Simcha uses as the opening track for his album "Tehilim" produced by ... Shea Mendlowitz! It has since become the popular chazzanus version of Moshe V'Aharon at non Carlbachian concerts. If you listen to Shlomo Simcha version compared to this rendition from Shlomo you will be amazed that there is literaly only 1 "knaitch" that Shlomo Simcha does more than R' Shlomo - "עמו" at the end of the song...ה יברך את עמו בשלום - Shlomo Simcha goes up to a high C which obviously Shlomo could not do on his best day LOL. Other than the High C, the song is identical kneitch by kneitch. (Shlomo Simcha also goes up 1 octave when he sings the line קול ה שבר ארזים which R' Shlomo does not do either)

@@shimonfrankel2422 Fascinating information, thank you for sharing this. If this is the case, he was still in his composing prime in the early 90's, quite remarkable.
