I have three key points as to why Sparing Darko is actually canon and true. I think the true ending with Darko is Niko sparing him because Several times Roman has talked to Niko about his “stupid revenge plan” like when Roman and Niko talked about it after Niko killed Vlad that baked in Nikos mind. Revenge is a fools game in Rockstar Games. NIKO is no better than Darko, killing for money, Niko’s long blood covered trail to Darko doesn’t help his case or give him an excuse either. Niko was loyal. He doesn’t let nothing go, he’s to the T, he was set on finding and avenging his brothers, but like Niko says, much like his brothers; it would just be another dead person, this highlights the pointlessness in killing Darko aside from whats right
No, man I think killing darko is canon coz think about it, like why would niko come all the way to liberty city to spare him , he was literally doing anything for killing darko or florian, so, nah, I don't think so sparing is canon, And this mission is the turning point of the whole story even niko mentions at the end of this mission that he feels nothing after killing him,So, it says revenge is useless and people should move on from the past.

The wisdom shown by Niko in GTA 4 when his anger cools down and remorse emerges is like nothing else in all of GTA history, for now at least. We don't know Jason and Lucia's true colours, but that's another story for another day.
I did the same, killing him won't make any difference but being like same as Darko's actions. And killing him will just end his suffer. I mean think about since, Darko is in Liberty City and sparing him I don't think he wouldn't lasted a minute.
I hope Niko "went quiet" because he is trying harder to find his own peace, and not that he fed himself a bullet, because I could see it going either way with how dark his story is.
He did go underground or “went quiet” its confirmed by Lester in Gta5, Lester says something like “there was the eastern european guy making waves in liberty city but he’s gone quite” its heavily implied to be Niko

I like how sometimes if you are running to a checkpoint in gta 4 it will just show niko barge in to the area like Kramer before walking at a normal cutscene pace
When I first played this mission years ago, and only recently did the same, I remember always sparing Darko. Why? For one because I was always a cheap bastard for ammo. For the other because I seldom skipped cutscenes (yes, a Zoomer actually paying attention when they were 13 exists), and understood most of Niko's past through his story. If you actually pay attention to the game, either choice you make doesn't affect anything from thereon. It is purely a blank choice with no consequence. You don't lose money, you won't lose friends, you won't have anyone come after you in a cyclic revenge story that Niko wanted, you just move on with the game, with (ideally) one last mission with Jimmy left. However, I like to see this mission in a spiritual manner, particularly towards the concepts of Wrath and Patience. In many religions, Patience is reverred as [one] of the highest virtues and ethical norms one can pursue, and philosophical perspectives on the matter, such as Stoicism, argue that it is better than what you choose to want than need. In contrast, Wrath (not to be cofused with revenge or punishment), stands on the side that one would choose to hate another. Fueled by this anger towards said person, they become blind to everything but them, and their families, friends and own selves mean nothing to them, as they only let their hatred dictate their life. Niko is a character that we have all come to love and understand throughout the game, and for his life to be dictated by hatred by killing Darko is not what I would prefer for him. It also speaks monumental words that Bernie (Florian) was able to let go of his past and move on with his life, even going so far as to change his name and start anew in a country where he can at least be free to not let that past haunt him anymore, but many people don't see that with Niko. He came to America with the sole intention of finding and confronting two men from his days in the military, not necessarily stating he wants to kill them (at least from what his dialogue with Roman at the end of 'Uncle Vlad' states). And even if you don't want to be like me and not spend more money on ammo or follow an ethical norm I've been raised around, keep in mind that Darko isn't a threat if you spare him. He literally runs off and is never seen or heard from again by anyone. Not just that, he's at an airport, and running towards a hangar bay area, which definitely would have some security who would detain him for trespassing. Do whatever you like, but Niko isn't a monster, and this choice, along with the one you make afterwards, determines how you think every man should be despite their situations and battles they're already fighting hard for.
I like this play through knowing according to Lester Nico went quiet and packie doesnt talk of him as dead in gta v (suggesting he’s probably alive). But we also know he’s not with Kate which suggests Roman actually dies (Packie seemed rather upbeat in gta v n not like a guy traumatized by his innocent sisters murder).
During talking scenes like this in your videos where their driving and chatting, I feel you would improve the cinematic, by walking and recording the conversation or driving normal, obeying red lights etc, makes the scene look more surreal
"So thats makes it ok? To stab your friends in the back?" Niko, you were bretayed during a war. So thats makes it ok? To become a criminal, kill hundreds of people and getting involved in human trafficking?
That's kinda the point of the "how much do you charge to kill" line. Niko ISN'T much better. He is a little, in that he's remorseful and fiercely protective of his friends, but not by much, as he is still a violent man who threw his life away and became an unscrupulous gun for hire whose hands are drenched in even more blood than Darko's. The big difference between them is that Darko completrly resigned himself to being an untrustable backstabber who would sell out everyone he knew for a nosefull while Niko is still able and willing to break his fall and be the good person Kate tells him he is
The sad reality that we will never see video games come out with this sort of hard hitting content. I remember people calling this era of games as a "gritty, dark" era, which is probably why we have games now with a 10 hour storyline and zero substance anymore. Very lucky to still be able to enjoy this title, it won't be long before we get a shitty remaster and the originals are erased from the internet like VC and SA
4:55 - I thought that revenge, that killing Darko might fill me up a bit. It might give me some substance. - And it hasn't? - No, it hasn't. Does this make you happy? - Yes. *Let's go bowling!*
Worst is this happened in reality on Balkan war. Yugoslavia tore apart because usa was involved in. Everyone wanted part of power. Usa was pretending they didnt. But they always did involve themselves for decades. Darko betrayed Niko and his unit because his unit killed his mslim friends in village they lived. This happened on Kosovo. He didn't care for how much, he already was gone and sank his depression on drugs.
Yes, always blame the US for local bastards want their power and criminal society that'd keep their authority. And Darko never told the friends were Muslim. Where did you take it from?
@@coffeelighthuhLocal bastards that'd want their power and a criminal society that'd keep their authority? That sounds a bloody lot like the US, in fact. Your country has committed genocide, sabotage, terrorism, coups and robbery on half the world since WW2.
I always wonder about the difference between justice and revenge in these situations games put you in. As much as Roman is trying to convince you to let him live, it's couched in terms of letting him suffer MORE. Letting him continue to be miserable. In other narratives, there's the idea that killing him would be wrong because of any other possible motivation. I kind of wonder... when is it better, justice not revenge, to end him? Is it mercy to let his friend rest after his long torture? Could he turn it around? Florian did. ... Niko didn't.
In my first and only 100% playtrought i took darko down , and roman got angry at niko and me....the same guy that would be totally fine with me and niko betraying dwayne for money... I like roman but sometimes he's way too much of a hipocrite to just ignore.
I remember walking into the guy over and over again because it was funny watching the ragdoll physics but after a few times he died when he fell over. Awkward.... I should really replay this one day, probably the best GTA imo. If only the PC port wasn't hot garbage.
this is the emotional response naughty dog wanted players to feel in the last of us 2 ending but it didn’t work, i still wanted abby dead af yet here it felt worthless to kill Darko
In the four or five times I've played through GTA IV, I never once killed Darko. Mostly because Roman is there, and he clearly knows it won't bring Niko any peace.
My favorite GTA IV game I remember first playing it when I was an 8 year old spending summer in United States (I live in Poland). Like one week before playing it at my cousins house I've actually seen New York for the first time. Unreal feeling. Wish I could be a child again
Games like this used to have dialogue that felt real, that felt realistic, felt human, it had emotion it. Written by people who had passion. Now most big games have the dialogue were every passion is squeezed out of. But hey, at least we now have game characters doing push ups if they misgender someone. Pathetic.
This is a cold moment indeed but I gotta say, I kinda hate the "Kill or leave" choice here, it'd be interesting if there was a secret choice of just shooting him in the leg or something, to show that Niko can kill him anytime he wants, he just chooses not too and that scar will always remind Drako of that Idk if I'm the only one that wants a choice like that but I think it's interesting
It’s a mark of brilliant storytelling that he’s probably the person you’ve the most reason to kill in the series, but I couldn’t bring myself to kill him
Imo R* messed this one up. I loved how the whole story turns around niko finding darko to get his revenge, and the emptyness it brought him afterwards. But then for the final mission make him successfully kill dimitri as revenge and finishing the story at that...
Imo they didn't mess up as your decision here fits with one of the two endings. If you get revenge, then that fits with killing Dimitri instead of going thourgh with the deal as niko would still want revenge against him. Letting darko go fits with the deal ending as niko would rather go through the deal instead of getting revenge against Dimitri, letting him go, but romans death would make niko think he made the wrong decision, pushing him to get revenge
I spared Darko because killing him would be the same as what Darko did, but in the bright side, probably Darko won't last in Liberty City because he doesn't even knew where he is and he might get gangbang by some random people in LC.
Damn, I’m gonna have to replay this game as a full adult now. I didn’t get the subtext they were talking about until just now. The whole “they killed my neighbors” thing was a reference to the Serbian war, I think.
Vengeance is a twisted thing. When we are wronged badly enough, we make getting satisfaction our reason for being. It consumes us, becomes the one thing driving us forward. And then should we get our revenge, and come down from the high, what do we have left?
Rockstar needs to remaster this game. Just add the gta 5 driving physics like they did the trilogy and bam fixed. Id even pay 60 for this again. This mission hits hard right there with garrus loyalty mission in mass effect 2. Similar situations sidonis a squadmate betrays the entire group gets everyone except garrus killed. And that decision haunts him and we decides his fate. Sidonis and darko are the same being in a different universe
Feeling empty isn't something just killers feel, addicts, victims, or the handicapped feel similar to Niko which is what makes him gta's Arthur Morgan. A strong man who has done horrible things but wants to do and be better. Or be a serial killer depending how you play🤣
Whenever I replay GTA IV, how I deal with Darko Brevic is how I choose whether to do the deal or kill Dimitri. If I have Niko kill Darko, I also have him kill Dimitri due to Niko not being able to let go of his revenge. If instead he spares Darko, I have him do the deal which ultimately gets Roman killed.
Always really stuck with me that they designed Darko to kind of look like a rock bottom drug addicted Niko

@@syedasif239that’s what I think too, killing Darko was definitely canon. Niko continues on with his life of perpetual violence and destruction, along with consequences as intended. Truly a masterpiece.
@@syedasif239it was what Niko wanted to do, but killing all he killed by the time he got here he realised that killing this dude would just be like killing a random gangbanger.
And besides, Darko is a dead man anyway. In a few years he'll OD in a ditch somewhere and death will have his day with Darko.
dude niko got so much angry about him. He would definitely kill him. And after killing him he would feel empty, like he did.
The 2 DLCs for this game were also god tier 😪

@@rigo5956 Yeah but still a kind of weak and short storyline. Not enough action if you ask me. Wasn’t terrible, but wasn’t “God tier” like this guy said. Gay Tony I liked better because you get some insight about of one of Niko’s biggest enemies Ray Bulgarin (and Timur).
@@56.PD_L&D and gay tony are still both worth playing. the sorta sub plot of all 3 games is about those diamonds that were on the ship niko came in on, and you only get the full story of them by playing all 3.
The wisdom shown by Niko in GTA 4 when his anger cools down and remorse emerges is like nothing else in all of GTA history, for now at least. We don't know Jason and Lucia's true colours, but that's another story for another day.
I'd rather leave him than killing him because:
1. Killing him won't bring anyone or anything back
2. He can enjoy his (guilt) trip
It's better to let him go because he wants niko to end him
I did the same, killing him won't make any difference but being like same as Darko's actions.
That probably would depend on whether Roman lived or died in the story I’m guessing
He did go underground or “went quiet” its confirmed by Lester in Gta5, Lester says something like “there was the eastern european guy making waves in liberty city but he’s gone quite” its heavily implied to be Niko
And this is why I always take the deal way and not the revenge.
GTA IV is criminally underrated.
It’s one the best selling games of its time, tops the charts during the 2000s, fym underrated? I grew up playing it alongside Saints Row on the 360.

It was never even worth it in the end.
I like how sometimes if you are running to a checkpoint in gta 4 it will just show niko barge in to the area like Kramer before walking at a normal cutscene pace
You know it's deep when even Roman is almost silent throughout.
To stab your friends in the back?"
Niko, you were bretayed during a war.
The big difference between them is that Darko completrly resigned himself to being an untrustable backstabber who would sell out everyone he knew for a nosefull while Niko is still able and willing to break his fall and be the good person Kate tells him he is
bro is playing gta 4 expanded and enhanced
The sad reality that we will never see video games come out with this sort of hard hitting content. I remember people calling this era of games as a "gritty, dark" era, which is probably why we have games now with a 10 hour storyline and zero substance anymore. Very lucky to still be able to enjoy this title, it won't be long before we get a shitty remaster and the originals are erased from the internet like VC and SA
honestly niko would never spare that guy. He had so much angry within him
If you just listen to what darko is saying and have sympathy for life. You’d understand Niko is no better. Killing darko is just a bad morality.
This is the exact moment when the Auto was Thefted Grandly
Imagine he survives after all those shots and Many Men starts playing 😂
GTA4 is the only GTA that holds a candle to RDR 1 and 2 in terms of writing. It’s a shame how the story in 5 was treated more like a Michael Bay film.
That was intentional though , i hope gta6 has a more mature story and it looks like it might , trailer had dark moments in it
Literally, the coldest...
We can only pray that GTA VI is as well written as IV, IV is better than a lot of mafia movies.
The radio in the car really added to the atmosphere
Seeing Niko brake to a stop every scene is funny to me.

- I thought that revenge, that killing Darko might fill me up a bit. It might give me some substance.
- And it hasn't?
- No, it hasn't. Does this make you happy?
- Yes. *Let's go bowling!*
Betraying the squad for a grand hits Niko so hard because he makes so much more than that by just hanging with Little Jacob
Hopping in the car after executing a man and hearing Ne-yo blasting on the radio 😂 when he was like “I’m turning this OFF” was so real lol
Niko didn't because he was drowned in his thrist for revenge, while Darko would never, because of his guilt.

In my first and only 100% playtrought i took darko down , and roman got angry at niko and me....the same guy that would be totally fine with me and niko betraying dwayne for money...
I like roman but sometimes he's way too much of a hipocrite to just ignore.
Nice outfit and graphics mod
Are we gonna ignore how many shots from a deagle it took to finish him off? 😂
This was probably the only time I felt very emotional while playing this game.
This was the HARDEST decision .
I played this game as a young teenager. I wish I could've better understood this game as an adult.
Pathetic.
Preach.
This is a cold moment indeed but I gotta say, I kinda hate the "Kill or leave" choice here, it'd be interesting if there was a secret choice of just shooting him in the leg or something, to show that Niko can kill him anytime he wants, he just chooses not too and that scar will always remind Drako of that
Idk if I'm the only one that wants a choice like that but I think it's interesting
Nikos one of the best characters ever made this game is just something else everything about it is perfect
Easily in my top five favorite games of all time absolute masterpiece

Remastered or not; this game will always be one of my favorites ❤
I spared Darko because killing him would be the same as what Darko did, but in the bright side, probably Darko won't last in Liberty City because he doesn't even knew where he is and he might get gangbang by some random people in LC.
nonsense is not a nist, I would have contacted the embassy and they would have helped him there
The guy died so hard that he broke his handcuffs
Over penetration is a thing.
This is so hard to walk away from this bit
I spared Darko, Roman's words got to me. Roman lost the most in the war, but he had a heart of gold, he chose to be meek, that's a lot.
Even still, his life changed the moment Niko got off the boat. Mostly for the worst.
Well im sure gta6 will top that! It wont be a steaming pile. Wink. Wink.
Nice driving
Love the way Roman randomly spawns a jacket
Damn, I’m gonna have to replay this game as a full adult now.
I didn’t get the subtext they were talking about until just now. The whole “they killed my neighbors” thing was a reference to the Serbian war, I think.
Niko thinks he's Frank West
Niko thinks that guy began the zombie virus
he’s covered wars, yk.
Niko thinks he's a searcher
Masterpiece.
I'm looking forward to GTA VII in Liberty City ☺️
Niko was so disappointed that Darko accepted 1000 dollars while he charges 5000
Vengeance is a twisted thing. When we are wronged badly enough, we make getting satisfaction our reason for being. It consumes us, becomes the one thing driving us forward. And then should we get our revenge, and come down from the high, what do we have left?
The best game of all time...i seriously cant think of a better game and ive been playing them since 1994
Rockstar needs to remaster this game.
Why is it funny after all that they pull off in a Lamborghini jamming to NE-YO
Underrated game. Best GTA.
Amazing scene.
