- Circulatory system of Branchiostoma is of closed type, well developed and peculiar in many ways. Blood is colorless due to lack of respiratory pigment and corpuscles. Blood vessels also occur in some lymph spaces such as meta-plural folds and the dorsal and the ventral fins. The main functions of the blood vascular system seems to be the transportation of the food and excretory products rather than O2 and CO2 for gaseous exchange. here heart is absent so that all blood vessels are muscular and contractile in nature, There are no differences between arteries and veins. The principal vessels and their branches are as:
i) Sinus Venosus
ii) Ventral Aorta
iii) Dorsal Aorta
iv) Sub intestinal Vein
v) Hepatic Portal System
vi) Cardinal Veins
vii) Parietal Veins
