I used to go to Kansai university and they had an amazing football team. Football isn't a massively popular sport in Japan, but for the people that get into it: they are in it 100%. Japanese people are crazy competitive in any sport they enter.
In 1981, a Japanese artist/mangaka called Yoichi Takahasi made Captain Tsubasa before Japanese good at football/soccer. Now they almost in every World Cup edition and one of the greatest team in Asia. In 2008, a Japanese artist/mangaka called Murata made Eyeshield 21, a manga about american football in high school level even thou almost every Japanese had no idea about American Football, and now U20 Japan American Football team beat USA U20. What next? Kaiju?

The IFAF World Cup has been played 5 times, but not since 2015. Japan won the 2 that the US didn't participate in, and finished 2nd twice when the US won, taking the US to overtime once but getting blown out in the last one. I'd say Japan is comparable to a lower half FCS team. You can't just throw any group of Americans out there and beat them.

Blessed to spend time with Team Japan this week. Personally 35 yrs of coaching. These coaches absolutely know their stuff and the players are great. It would be dead wrong to miss the point growing the sport world wide is a great thing. That means sometimes you lose in these events.

The American public was never notified that this game was happening and not only that, none of us recognized a single name that was sent over there. So that team may say TEAM USA, but nobody who was actually good at the game was sent. To put it in comparison, it’s like sending the fans of a national team’s bench to play against Argentina in the World Cup, that’s the literal context. These aren’t actually players, just players who thought they could’ve played.
This is the same situation that happened with the Baseball World Cup. The tournament doesn't mean anything so either the 4-5 star athletes dont want to go especially since they have to pay for entry and potentially risk getting injured and losing out on their future careers or they want to go and the coaches won't let them for the same reason.
It's pretty absurd that Japan beats the USA in Football but just as insane as the Superbowl winners calling themselves World Champions when no other country plays professional football. I played Tight End for the British American football team and represented Great Britain on tour in England, Wales, California and Australia, Hawaia. Beat the piss out of Australia in NSW (I caught the only passing touchdown) but the US (Cal Tech) beat us-it was a blast! Circa 1989!

Even the players on the Japanese rugby team will tell you that American football is the soul of America, the best in the world, without a doubt. Maybe the Japanese team did the best they could with the most talented players and coaches in history, but neither rugby nor American football can be won by luck or a little bit of talent. If you follow the tournament from the beginning. USA has routinely been beaten by Canada, Austria ETC. we haven't been been the best really ever in this tournament.

Bullet trains (electric) are not practical for large countries. The infrastructure is too expensive to build and maintain at the scale of the US, Russia, China, India, Brazil, Canada etc. One exception: Since China owns US manufacturing and politicians, they can afford to blow money on the world's longest HSR project.
